Let us know what you'd like in v1.03

Wow.  We're just so happy that people are liking the game.  We're also happy that the reviews are coming out very positive so far.  And, well, we're definitely happy with the sales.  It's doing even better than Galactic Civilizations II did which was really well.

Here's our upcoming schedule:

  1. Get a v1.03 update out
  2. Make Demo
  3. Start work on v1.04

We hope to get v1.03 out by the end of the month (no promises though). Ironclad (and Stardock) are pretty exhausted from the final weeks of effort and the first week of launch so resting will be done. :)

So think of v1.03 as a few key tweaks that you think would really make the game more enjoyable not just for you but other people.

Here's an example of things we're talking about right now:

  • Updated AI players
  • More Game Speed Options
  • More aggressive AI players replacing dropped players (i.e. active AI)
  • AI surrendering
  • Improvements to ICO
  • Unit cap increases

We have lots of ideas. But the key thing to remember, we want to get 1.03 out this month if possible. So sure, we can all imagine things like random events or fancier diplomacy or other things of that nature but those would take far too long to get into the game.

1)PJI's need to be looked at seriously, there have been some very good idea's as to how to fix this and i hope they help a decision to be made

2)Unit Cap, Either make unit cap proportional to map size, or atleast stop spamming by enforcing a 30-50% cap of specific unit per total fleet size


but yes i to would love to see all sorts of more intricate and detailed additions particularly on diplomacy but in appreciation of the fact this patch is comin out fairly quickly i think PJI and Unit Cap/Spamming are 2 things that have come up in 90% of the posts in this thread and would definately keep players continent till 1.04.

well its probably been asked before and its not that i dont love playing multiplayer or lan games but i would like to see:

A Campagin
and an ability to connect planets from diffrent stars together so you could simulate entering a star system the way it should be from the outer planets in and up to the star itself (im talking about star forge of course)

other then that LOVE THIS GAME
i made all my friends buy it and we play lots of lan games

Having a Physics BSC I was very pleased at how scientifically sound the game is, as well as being thoroughly enjoyable and pleasing to the eye. One scientific inaccuracy I did notice which I think would be easy to fix is to have all structures and ships within a gravity well orbit their planet in a realistic sense.

I'd really like to see some improvements to the AI so it becomes less predictable and more adaptive. Perhaps it could learn from its human opponent(s) somehow and adjust tactics to suit?

Please make ships autojoining a fleet adopt the tactics and behavior of the fleet! For example if a fleet is set to "loose formation, local area, group jump" when a ship arrives and joins the fleet that ship should adopt the same tactics, instead of causing everything to become "mixed"

Main reason is otherwise you have to reset the tactics manually every time a ship joins or, for example, when you try a jump that new ship jumps by itself while the rest of the fleet is still getting ready!

Can I also ask for a change to the Control+number grouping? I could have sworn that last night, I had two groups of ships assigned to groups with Ctrl+1 and Ctrl+2. Then I took some out of each group in order to form another group for more effective combat (used Ctrl+3) and pressing 1 or 2, resulted in ships from group 3 being selected rather than only the ones from group 3 - making my intended tactic fail abysmally.

A change to the unit cap would be nice as well, maybe scaling with the size of the map? Leave the current values in as a minimum, say for maps of 20 or 30 and less planets, then add 1000 to the top end cap per 10, 15, or 20 additional planets on the map, maybe?

it's gonna be a pain having any decent sort of fleet coverage of my empire on my 400-planet, 10-star map that I'm playing.

-Even smaller maps, if that's viable.
-When I open my game through Steam, I don't get ANY letters, no words, just graphics.(I know, but I don't use icons so, it's easier for me, I do use launchy, but I organize my games through the Steam app so don't hate)

Make it so that when you put a factory rally point on a fleet, all units from that factory autojoin that fleet instead of just moving to that point and still joining a random fleet.

I would like ETA timers on the guns and phase lanes. For instance, when aiming a gun a little box should popup and give an ETA for the shell. The same for ships phase jumping. This way you can coordinate attacks with people and or guns :)

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but here are some things that I would like to see, and I'll try to say things that I think haven't been said before;

-Estimated Time of Arrival: For just about everything, time till destination, time till research completed, times for everything. The HUD has some wasted space so it would be nice to fill it with some times.

-Some kind of indication as to how culture is increasing/decreasing between planets. It's hard to notice if the line is changing for me or for the enemy, I have to try and zoom on the line itself and see how it's changing. And other than wasting time waiting to see if my allegiance % is going up or down, there is no easy way.

-Have the ships turn around before accelerating; As it is now, the ships make huuuuge wide turns when turning around and actually causes some changes in tactics. For example, sometimes my ships will turn the opposite way I thought they were going to turn in order to attack the enemy that's behind them which may cause them to go around the planet causing my fleet to get split up for a while. Another example is when traveling to another planet, the travel lanes show them phase jumping on the right side of the phase lane when I execute the order, which is good. But as they turn around and get close this can change to the middle or even the left side of the phase lane, which is not where I wanted them to phase jump.

-As it is now, the research button lights up when research is progressing. It would be nice to have some kind of warning to let you know that you are NOT researching. Maybe change it so that it lights up when you are not researching, or maybe something on the HUD to let you know.

-Warnings and indications in the four slots are nice, but it would be great if things like "allies planet is under attack" would automatically light up on the map instead of having to move your mouse over it in order to see exactly where he's being attacked. This would definitely help in late game especially with multiple allies as you can only see one "allied under attack" instance at a time, and to see them all while looking at a map would really help.

Anyways, love the game!

How about:

Objects within a gravity well orbit their planet in a realistic manner rather than being stationary?

Gas giants with multiple moons?

Units auto-joining a fleet take on the orders given to the existing fleet? (TOO many times have I sent a fleet to a planet only to have a bunch of units jump ahead of the rest cos they auto-joined the fleet but do not have group jumping switched on like the rest. Formation and engagement range orders should also be taken on by the joining unit, without a these features included there is no point even having an auto join feature because the time it saves has to be spent adjusting the other orders.)

Just a minor irritation in what is otherwise an outstanding game.

the ability to create a multi system patrol route for a fleet would be nice, as i like to have multiple groups of units patrolling around for defensive purposes, without having to micromanage. also a fix for those driver crashes would be nice, if at all possible :)

I would like to see more artifacts. Not necessarily more in each game but say a pool of maybe 25 different artifacts of which 10 or so are randomly chosen for a game.

From a military/tactical viewpoint, wouldn't you think that the R&D guys in this universe would not think of the possibility to mine phase lanes?

I don't know about game balance or the pseudo-science compatibility but it should be considered...

I totally agree. Please make the AI a bit more tough, and perhaps boost up planetary defenses, at least a bit. Maybe increase the hanger capacity by 1 or 2? Or upgrade the gauss cannons a little because they're damn near worthless. Also I'm sick of seeing the AI fleets with 50 cobalt/disciple frigates and 1 capital ship. And the AI doesn't seem to take into account it's allied fleets. When I jump in with a decent fleet, the other fleets that are smaller run, despite them outnumbering me greatly with their allied fleets. Really Really great game though, thanks.

Hello there,

I would like to see a few changes also, probably someone else mentioned it but reading through 38 pages is a bit to much :)

I would like a option that when you quit a game the game actually asks you if you really wanna quit. I have had some long games and when i press the menu so i can to toilet or getting a drink i sometimes click quit and the game just ends (yeah i know its my own mistake when i do that) leaving me with some stats of the game, no way of returning to the game except loading up a quicksave or a manual save game.

Secondly, when i am abit zoomed out in the game you can see all the builded stuff on the different planets/asteroids when you hover you mouse over the lowest half cirkel, but its not organized, so when i am looking if i have built all refineries on all planets or trade ports i am always reading all buildings before i finally find the one i am looking for. If these building would be somehow organized that would be cool, for instance, trade buildings, production buildings, research buildings etc etc.

Hope you get my point, my english aint that good :)

I love the game tho, downloaded it first, played it a few days, awesome game, looked for it in our shops, didnt see it anywhere so i bought the digital version.

I think when it comes to planetary bombardment, HP should go entirely first, then the population. Right now everyone dies before the HP wear out and it kinds seems dumb as the HP represents bomb shelters and the strength of the planets infrastructure, and it seems weird that everyone on the planet dies, but the invaders have to nuke every building before they can land.

It would be nice if there were an option that allowed people to join mid game... say controled by the host. That way you can continue a marathion game with several people, also would it be possable to sell or trade ships to one another, so that in an alliance If I have a great military and my partner has a great economy He could buy his ships from me... making an arms dealer of a player.

It could be as simple as a buton with change ownership or just change control of ship to another player... lend lease situation where you could take back control of ships after a certian amount of time
