Let us know what you'd like in v1.03

Wow.  We're just so happy that people are liking the game.  We're also happy that the reviews are coming out very positive so far.  And, well, we're definitely happy with the sales.  It's doing even better than Galactic Civilizations II did which was really well.

Here's our upcoming schedule:

  1. Get a v1.03 update out
  2. Make Demo
  3. Start work on v1.04

We hope to get v1.03 out by the end of the month (no promises though). Ironclad (and Stardock) are pretty exhausted from the final weeks of effort and the first week of launch so resting will be done. :)

So think of v1.03 as a few key tweaks that you think would really make the game more enjoyable not just for you but other people.

Here's an example of things we're talking about right now:

  • Updated AI players
  • More Game Speed Options
  • More aggressive AI players replacing dropped players (i.e. active AI)
  • AI surrendering
  • Improvements to ICO
  • Unit cap increases

We have lots of ideas. But the key thing to remember, we want to get 1.03 out this month if possible. So sure, we can all imagine things like random events or fancier diplomacy or other things of that nature but those would take far too long to get into the game.

I would love for Ironclad to do automatic matchmaking for people searching for certain types of games.

For example, I prefer 1v1 games. I find them a ton of fun. Yet it seems like it's really hard to catch a game before it's full, and I'm not sure that when I host a game that people can actually join it.

So it would be very nice to be able to do something like in Command & Conquer Generals where you just click autojoin and it matches you up with another person looking for the same type of game (say, in this case, 1v1). Then, once you go into the lobby together, you can set the game speed, resources, etc and click accept. Alternatively, you can just have a default set for automatches and people can deal with that or just host their own game if they don't like the defaults.

Triple phase inhibitor's jump delay time and have i effect the entire grav well in addition to Kade's above post.

I wholeheartedly agree with this one as well. Heck, even making it affect an entire grav well would be enough for me. But doubling the delay and giving it a grav well range would be awesome.

I'd like to see the options in placing planetary structures enhanced.
Currently they are randomly placed close to the area I specify.
I'd like to be able to specify the exact location with complete control of the vertical as well.

Many good thoughts, so here are a few basic but important ones:

1) AI needs to take over for online players that leave. It's terrible that 1 or 2 quitters can basically make what could have been a good game, unbalanced and a complete waste of time. NOTE: Replacing AI level needs to be defined at game creation.

2) Quitting online should ALWAYS be a "surrender" and a loss. Who cares why they quit or drop, it is a loss. I also really think some further system could be implemented to value the players dedication to a game as well. Quitters are the only threat to enjoying this game but it is a big threat. I don't want to get sick of it and I am sure I am not alone. See #1 for a semi-reasonable fix to this.

3) Turrets need to have around double the range as they are now pretty useless.

4) The repair bay "repair radius" should not be able to overlap with the radius from another bay. This uberrepair zone (like 3 or 4 overlapping bays) is a pretty ridiculous defence (it's way too powerful with a large fleet).

5) See #1

6) See #1

Thanks!

I want unique frigates, cruisers, and cap ships for each race and a super cap ship for each race, hoorah!!

Take away shoot on sight diplomacy in games, also I understand why this may not be possible but I want buildings to be self-destructible I have run into many occasions where all planets are locked down I have only 3 left and I cant build anything useful because all of my building slots are full, In those situations I would rather have weapon jamming instead of a trade port or something of that sort that is of no use to you.

I also would like the ability to change the speed of the game within a multiplayer game. Perhaps allow one player to hit the + or - key. The other player(s) in the game will be notified that a player wants to increase/decrease the speed of the game, then list the current speed of the game and what the new speed would be. If all of the other players in the game hit a confirmation key within 15 seconds, the speed will be updated. Limit the # of times a person can make such a request to avoid spam.

already in below the picture is a small button that scuttles whatever you have selected. takes about half a minute, but it works and you get some res. back.

On the Super Cap ship note...I think that would be an awesome idea. Make them like superweapons but limit one per player!

If I'm understanding your request, you can already do this. There's a little bar below the icon/picture of an item in the center bottom of your screen. It looks almost like a construction sign - yellow with slashes through it. If you click that little bar, you will self-destruct whatever ship/facility/installation you have targeted at that moment, recovering some resources in the process. Usually takes about 30 seconds, although that can be modified through certain research.

I know others posted a lot of these as well, but heres my list:

1. Options when making the game pertaining to players that leave prematurely.
2. Faster game play options.
3. Better phase lane control, also perhaps lock down anything more then 2 jumps from your front with a phase lane disrupter.
4. In game Galaxy Forge map downloading, perhaps a custom game tab in multi-player list to separate them.
5. Repair stacking.
6. I cannot verify this but please take a look at returning armada, may be too powerful.
7. Would like to see a slight buff to Capitol ships all around, to better combat frigate spam.
8. Please continue to nerf Siege frigate spamming, its just plain annoying.

Hi,
My suggestions:
1. Tweak the diplomatic EA in FFA. Making the alliances more stable.
It's boring to be attacked by 3 allies when you start to kick your ennemies.

2. Boost the PJI in order it really slow the ennemy fleet. Spending 1 or 2 minutes waiting for a jump is not crazy. You can reduce the range of effect to force player to expose it to ennemy firepower and choose a defensive (preventing rush) or trapping tactic (prevent enemy fleeing)

3. Creates a capital ship with PJI incorporated, like interdictor cruiser of star war. With a limited effect (in range, and/or in duration)

4. Creates new super capital ship class. Limited to 1 per player, requiring lot of research. Not a unstoppable Behemot like Death star but an hard to kill multi-purpose ship (who say super star destroyer ?)

5. Improve research interface: a display of the research order list can be a plus.

6. Change the pirate system. Each time a player bid it credit the pirate launch chrono for some time more.

That's all for me: thank you for this great game !

Definitely agree with this. I would actually like to see some or all defenses be "planetary based". Give the missile launchers/beam weapons a range out to the edge of the inner circle (so that it can reach basically any vessel that can bombard the planet). I would keep the fighter bays as orbital installations, though.

Would also like to see additional planetary based defensive abilities. Some sort of upgraded defensive unit beyond the base defensive weapon and the hangar. Ion cannons, mines, deep space missiles, etc. Something bigger and better. Right now any defense is going to get wiped out by an armada in a matter of seconds.

4) The repair bay "repair radius" should not be able to overlap with the radius from another bay. This uberrepair zone (like 3 or 4 overlapping bays) is a pretty ridiculous defence (it's way too powerful with a large fleet).

Don't agree with this. Even with a fairly small fleet you can take out the installations even with a few shield/repair bays up. They just allow the system to hang on for a bit longer to try and get a defensive fleet there. With a medium sized fleet, even 4-5 overlapping repair bays aren't going to stand up for more than a minute.

I would request some sort of visual indicator next to a planet (on the tree or around the planet or whatever) to show the level/status of the various upgrade sets for the planet.

After taking over a large amount of stars it can become difficult to remember if I've put the money into build up bomb shelters or if I've increased the number of tactical slots or whatever.

I dream of 5 color bar indicators representing the 5 types of upgrades I can buy. Nothing in the bar = no upgrades bought (of that type); full bar = all available slots purchased. And then scale the amount of color in the bar based on the type of planet (lots of available upgrades give more intermediate levels). This would make scanning through my empire to pick the next planet to search or the home of my newest trade center a much faster process than pulling up info cards and scanning down to see the numbers.

Good luck working on 1.03.

I would like a little more information on the planet's infocards regarding culture. At the moment you only see "Allegiance." Is this YOUR allegiance? Theirs? Things get a big muddled when looking at enemy planets you are affecting with culture. Likewise, when a colony gets wiped out you can see "3.3 culture/sec" on the card, but colonizing it hides that information.

A) I want to know how many of which types of research stations I have.
[/quoote]
Just hover the mouse over the diff level research tasks, and see if they have the minimum number of labs requirement fulfilled. Easy way to tell how many labs you have, that is if you have less than 9.

B) I want to know what I'm researching without having to pour over 5 screens of research options, looking for the one that's slightly brighter than the others.

C) I want to know what my research que looks like. I can't always remember what I scheduled for when.
End of quote

Hover over the research button with your mouse, and it will list all the researches you have queued there.

Quick diplomacy fix: make everyone start as neutral instead of shoot on sight. This would make the current diplomacy system useable atleast.

You would have to declare war before your ships start shooting others down.

Be sure the AI doesn't exploit it too.

This is a really good idea. There's not much motivation to complete the missions set forth by the AI when it'll take at least 4 of them, generally, to get up to 100%, and some are impossible (shooting down a certain # of ships of another faction or destroying X number of structures when the factions on another side of the galaxy).

I would like to see star lanes in the next version. The current version implies that anyone can travel across the universe without traveling through other stars along the way.
Argh, and of course the other idea occurs after I hit post.

This is forums related. It might be smart to set up a new player question/answer area in the main forums. It would make it easier for new players to ask questions and find answers without having to search through all other game related discussions.

An alarm clock feature for those times I forget to look up at the clock. Or, failing that, a feature to start my coffee maker to remind me to get ready for work.

i would like the bounty leaderboard to be updated only when pirate fleets launch (so you cant constantly just outbid) so that while the pirates live the bounty board is only updated every time pirate fleets launch.

You can already do that. Go to Single Player then Player Setup.

1) Make capital ships more Capital. They get owned by cruisers mid game and end game like no tomorrow. Maybe this could be solved with more Capital ship only upgrades.

2) Ships are like juggernauts in my own opinion. A player can jump into a gravity well that is heavily defended. Suffer minor damage, and make it to the next gravity well with almost their entire fleet. Maybe a tractor beam that is highly expensive, and has enormous supplies of animator. This would work like a phase inhibitor except it would stop X amount of ships in their tracks till A it is destroyed, or B its antimatter runs out.

3) Make Planetary defense do something. Yeah sure the defense help in a fight but to me I expect my defense to make a fleet think twice about attacking the world they defend. Right now I see them as a minor inconvenience that is easily dealt with.

Right now this game feels like more of a Space Empire Simulator to me than an epic RTS. Do not get me wrong I love this game. It just seems there is not enough destruction. The rate at which you can destroy ships is much slower than the enemy can crank out.
