Let us know what you'd like in v1.03

Wow.  We're just so happy that people are liking the game.  We're also happy that the reviews are coming out very positive so far.  And, well, we're definitely happy with the sales.  It's doing even better than Galactic Civilizations II did which was really well.

Here's our upcoming schedule:

  1. Get a v1.03 update out
  2. Make Demo
  3. Start work on v1.04

We hope to get v1.03 out by the end of the month (no promises though). Ironclad (and Stardock) are pretty exhausted from the final weeks of effort and the first week of launch so resting will be done. :)

So think of v1.03 as a few key tweaks that you think would really make the game more enjoyable not just for you but other people.

Here's an example of things we're talking about right now:

  • Updated AI players
  • More Game Speed Options
  • More aggressive AI players replacing dropped players (i.e. active AI)
  • AI surrendering
  • Improvements to ICO
  • Unit cap increases

We have lots of ideas. But the key thing to remember, we want to get 1.03 out this month if possible. So sure, we can all imagine things like random events or fancier diplomacy or other things of that nature but those would take far too long to get into the game.

Yeah, and consider adding one more lower and one more higher option for research speed/resources/game speed, while also adding unit cap lowest/low/normal/high/highest. ^^^!

Ok I know these are some long term changes, but they would make this game much better, and you can get round in doing them later. Like the game by the way, it just needs these ideas to make it very good.

Better game play

Better game ending

Patrol routes - so we can get fleets to move around planets

Hidden anomalies & anomalies -we get cash, ships, etc from destroying asteroids, energy wells etc

allot bigger cap limit - A MUST on the destroyers and smaller ships, the games in very limited and small scale on large maps, and we don't have enough to go around.

Upgrades

More upgrades - I liked the galactic Civ way better, when we had a lot more choice of weapons

able to cloak ships

Ships

A metal shine on ship texture

Mine layer ships

Pirate capital ships

ship carrier - to carry smaller ships

Building ships - able to build smaller frigates etc

Capture ship ability - ships that steal other ships

Junker ships, to collect the space ship wrecks

Shield ships

Defence

Planet nova bomb - a Very slow moving planetary defence bomb that we are able to detonate to kill lots of enemy ships

Defence platforms - that can be placed in systems where there are no colonise or planets

Viewing Modes

Movie watch mode, to watch a cinematic battle.

Click worm hole for view to enter them

Better visuals

Better missile impacts - not just little white dot

Damage Battle ship smoke trail - so we can follow them when they jump out to other planets.

Moving guns - battle ships guns should recoil when they fire, it would make them seem more powerful.

Better Info

Mouse over a ship to tell us what power is being used against us on that ship

View Only Our Fleet health bars, - when in a big fleet with 100's of ships, we are not able to see our own health.

- Make a option in game menu to allow a certain amount of Cap on units (I know that some Empires have a reason they have a higher Cap than the other Empires). For example make one setting Default (like it is now), 1.4, 1.6 and 2 multiplied by the default number. This way the Empire that has the default number of ships still get that, but the other Empires ship total goes up. If we increase teh default Cap of ships, other people computers will slow down, as the AI will build to the limit. This is why a setting needs to be added instead of hard-coding the default fleet cap to be higher.

-Make starting Position Work!
-Make a tutorial, so that we can make rotating turrets for our ships! Or the communit ycan do it, whatever is necessary.

Also what the poster typed above me..

NOTE: this a good idea, but the Cap limit must be a option to set in a game match, as again people with slower computers are playing this game too. I like the idea though.

-Does the Varsari already have this with phase out abilities? If not, definitely not a bad idea.

Better Yet, Make the Carrier Cost more Fleet points, But allow them to carry more Fighter/Bombers. That way a increase in units does not happen and people with slower computers don't get bogged down as much.

Capture ship ability - ships that steal other ships

Junker ships, to collect the space ship wrecks

Shield ships
-Doesn't a Empire already have a ability to replenish shields on a ship?

Defence

Defence platforms - that can be placed in systems where there are no colonise or planets

Viewing Modes

Movie watch mode, to watch a cinematic battle.

Click worm hole for view to enter them
-This is needed badly, especially when playing random maps.

-I would like to see this added, I need to figure out if its possible to mod this in though. I would do it if I knew more about how the turrets work in this game.

View Only Our Fleet health bars, - when in a big fleet with 100's of ships, we are not able to see our own health.

I can see the health of all my ships in a planet orbit, even if there is 100+. Did you turn "Stacking on" in the view menu of the logistics Viewer (The thing on the left, forgot what it is called)? If stacking is on you won't see all the health of your ships because anything that is not a capital ship, gets stacked if there are 10 or more of the same frigates/crusiers in the same area.

Ok we came agross this last night and it was a shme we could not do it.

How about the ability to add people as friends while playing a game not just in the lobby. we had a great game gling and 2 people had to leave mid game but wantted to be able to contact us later on to set up another game. We could not do so from within the game.. minor feature but real handy when trying to build like minded players for future refrence.

This one I think should be considered as a basic design decision for all future and previous content: for everything you add in future or past, where possible add it as a toggle! Ability to turn things on and off in a setup screen, for both single player and multiplayer.

Seriously this could save a lot of arguing on the forums and make for a much more customised gaming experience where people can tune things to how they like. Just add toggles for most things you can!

Good idea. The favorite part is it would, like you said really save time on the forums, with these toggles.

can the update make the clouds on the planets thicker and whiter so they cover whatever they go over? that would look more realistic. of course it's not important though....

Okay, hello everyone, I just registered upoun seeing this thread. The reason bieng that while although I have not bought this game YET, there has been IMO a very realized discussions of the flaws /problems with this game already here at Gamefaqs.com:

http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=935993&topic=41361712

Here is a peice of the debate(not written by me) that I found to be quite noteworthy.

"So, in conclusion, the supply system is piss-poor at scaling to large games. As everything gets exponentially bigger, the supply cap remains the same, taxes punish you harder than a government mule, and you're left to flying around from star to start trying to track down Che Guevara and his band of space rebels on a hopeless mission of popping cheap shots at your home planets, one phase lane at a time. Make it stop! Make the supply cap scale with the number of planets, or number of solar systems, or anything! Make the PJI's actually stop phasing or slow it down by a lot, and make empire building fun instead of a tedious chore."

Truth be told the realization that large-scale games are so unbalanced has made me nervous about purchasing this game.

People keep talking about adding something to help defend asteroid belts etc where you've already captured the facilities, what about being able to build a small space station, that requires you to send a colony ship and a scout to the system, they're destroyed as part of the station.

This station could then carry 2 small fighter/bomber squadrons, and allow you to build a small number of tactical defenses aswell as maybe a trade port and/or refinery station?

btw, loving the game, had to get it on digital download as I'm from the UK, but spreading the word slowly

I haven't played too many matches (game takes sooo long), but things I would like to see in a patch includes:

Some things inspired by my long hours playing Civ 4:
*Non-military victories so you could win the game without ever attacking a planet (such as a diplomacy victory or research victory).
*Directly bribe another empire to really attack another empire.
*Games that start out with more already built to slightly speed up the game.

Other things that I would like to see:
*A second empire tree (perhaps on the right side) so you could keep one for planets and one for fleets or such.
*A more complete and user-friendly tutorial (this would be VERY important in having an effective demo).
*The ability to change the rate of Pirate attacks (from none to extremely often).
*More differences in the units of the different races (not a seemingly one-to-one indentical comparison where the only differences between the races are the capital ship abilities and the research trees). I know that this isn't Starcraft and that balancing widely different races takes a lot of time, but I'd like the races to feel much more unique.

Anyway, I'm having some fun playing the game and love the fact that you could play against someone online with the same key to help get people into the game.

can we have the ability in Multiplayer games to speed up and slow down games. I think it's currently only available in single player. And perhaps give the host of the game the option to allow this to be locked or changeable in game.

Then for pausing. In multiplayer, can the host of the game designate if there are infinite pauses or limited pauses. It's kinda nice when you are just playing with one other friend and you don't care if each other needs to pause the game alot. It's more of a convenience. Cuz if you quit and re host, the pauses reset to 10.

Thanks!!

Epic/Titan Mother ships. Just one maybe 2 massive battleships 3 to 4 time bigger than a normal battle ship. You could have to have it on the end research table as a unlock.
Would give a a very good goal to aim to.

rotating turrets on the capital ships...
I'd like to see increased capital ship effectiveness. By effectiveness I mainly mean longevity. I'm forgoing even using capital ships as soon as I get heavy cruisers. For instance, when my capital ships I initially built eventually explode due to negligence and/or blistering focus fire, I just replace them with heavy cruisers. I feel that the benefits of five more heavy cruisers outweigh the benefits of a capital ship.

I'd like to see this change so I know that I can get more than 30 seconds of combat out of my capital ship before it has to flee to a repair platform or explode. I'd really enjoy seeing them be hulking behemoths that have a presence the entire fight instead of "AIM HERE" indicators that have to flee after minimal combat.

Another thing I would like to see is object specific bounties. What I mean by that is bounties that could be placed on planets and capital ships. It would further allow the person who places the bounty to guide the hand of whomever is trying to collect it.

How about some new abilities like cloaking and cloaking detection. Could make things interesting like luring someone into believing a significant planet is unguarded and when they attack springing the defensive guard on them or move in cloaked on an enemy and then positioning yourself on them with a large opening volley. Devestating.  :HOT:

They have been said already, but the two quick fixes I'd most like to see:

1) Diplomacy: Give an option to start games at a neutral or near neutral rating. Granted the lore says all these factions are against one another, but until the diplomacy system can be reworked in more depth, this would certainly alleviate some of the immediate problems.

If there is time and ability in time for this patch, perhaps also look at the fact that your allies may also ally with your enemy.

Maybe also the shifts awarded and (more importantly,) lost via the missions.

2) AI.
Cowardly enemies need to be reassessed.
Siege Frigate Spam FTL.

And that's about it for my required/desperately wanted fixes/changes for 1.03.

rotating turrets on the capital ships...

Sadly, there doesn't seem to be any animation at all in the game. Some ships like the Dunov really need it, but it'd make all the ships look better. The TEC flak in particular looks ridiculous. :)

Got one more idea, and shouldnt be a stretch...

I would like to collapse (Stack) my fleets while leaving the enemy expanded. this way i can have certain types of ships attack specific ships of the opponent.

Please fix the beginning movie so that the voice is louder than the movie. There is know way to understand what is being said unless I turn the volume up so loud that it is unbearable. We need to hear what is being said. To heck with the music in the background.

Thank you.

it has been said a bunch of times already but:

-tactical fleet formations, i.e. ability to toggle placement of ships within a fleet, light frigates in front heavies in back etc.

-Clean-up of current control group and fleet system, they need to be more meshed together.
Suggestions:

1. Mines
2. Fleet formations (e.g. vertical, V-formation, box, etc.)
3. Some better indicator (e.g. a symbol appears on the top right or right side of the screen?) when a capital ship levels up.
4. "municipal" planets that act as secondary capitals in other solar systems.
5. Mod scripting.
6. Reduce everything's health by 25% (to make ships and structures go down faster and to speed up games even more).
7. An option to turn off superweapons
8. Nerfing of the superweapons
9. Anti-superweapons

1) Captains for capital ships
2) Starbases
3) More diplomatic options
4) Storyline
5) Effective PJIs
Longer names for capital ships and the ability to designate one of them as your flagship instead of the "highest level is your flagship" system.
