Simple questions: 1) ship selection, 2) fighters and bombers

I have some (hopefully) somewhat simple questions that I'm curious to know about:

1) What is the way that most people do selection of their ships? There are times where I simply want to pick-and-choose which craft I want to move as a group, but the game doesn't seem to support holding down Ctrl and hand-picking the craft I want (a la Dawn of War).

2) Is it just me or is the criteria for when Capital Ships can build fighters and bombers differ depending on the ship? For example, when I first created a Kol Battleship, I couldn't figure out why I couldn't make fighters. Then, once it got promoted to level 3, all of a sudden I had the option. The Sova Carrier, on the other hand, seems to be able to build fighters right off the bat (from level 1).

Also, I can't figure out where I look to see how many squads of fighters I can build, since that also seems to vary depending on the ship.

Is there anywhere that it mentions these things? It's rather frustrating to learn this simply by building something to determine what its capabilities are (these details do not appear to be in the infocards). And if I'm missing something obvious, please tell me!

Thanks so much,

yes, the carrier does have more ships than the battleship

if you select the ship in the bottom right it shows a xx/xx this is how many sqads you have built/available

And if I'm missing something obvious, please tell me!

Not all capital ships can build squadrons right off. Some start with the ability to build more than others, some start with the ability to build none.

Thanks for the replies. For the record, I have read the manual, and I don't see anywhere where it mentions shift will select multiple units (although admittedly, I should have tried it).

Is there anywhere I can see which capital ships start with the ability to build squadrons and which can't? I didn't think I saw this on the rollover for each capital ship before I buy, but perhaps I'm mistaken.

Thanks again,

it does not show on the rollover, and sorry, it only shows the max squads allowed in the manual, but there are only 5 capships so its pretty easy to learn

P.S. afaik, the colonizer cappy starts with one sqad and gets two at lvl 5, the carrier gets two, then 3 at lvl 3, then more as it levels (dont know the #'s), and the dreadnaught gets one at lvl 5

Actually I do see in the manual now where it says the Kol starts with zero squadrons and its upgradeable to 2. Man, this thing (and GalCiv2) needs an in-game Civpedia sort of thing.

I'll have to fiddle a bit more - much thanks to all,
