Downloading the game again in the future

Am thinking of buying the game. But in a few months time i will format my hard drive. Can i download the game again for nothing as i have already paid or should i buy the boxed version online?

You can download it again, and there is Archive option for backup in the Stardock Central(This little utility like the strem client.)

Yup, just install Stardock Central, give it your login information and you'll be able to download the latest version of all your Stardock games.

I bought the first Galactic Civilizations five years ago. To this day I'm still able to download it from Stardock Central.

I personally prefer to avoid the download time. That's why I'm quick to use the "Download and Archive" option and place the SDC file in a different physical hard disk (just select the game, right-click and go to "Archive Application" and then "Download and Archive").

The serial id that came with your retail copy allows you to patch the game with SDC and to download the whole game through SDC once you have registred it.
