Anyone else buy this game just to...

support the developers? that was the only reason I bought this game, I support developers who don't treat gamers like criminals. I also support developers who make games because they enjoy what they do, not so they can cash in on what ever movie just came out. This game was available on tons of torrents but I bought it just to make a point about good developers deserving our money, I also bought GalCiv1&2 for the same reasons. I mean it was amazing to install my game and not be asked to enter a CD key, heck I didn't enter my key till 6 hours after playing the game; and that was when I decided to join the forums.

Oh and it was also pretty awesome when I was sitting in my quantum mechanics lecture and decided to play some Sins only to realize that I didn't have the CD on me, then I looked all over for a no-cd thing but couldn't find one...turns out we didn't need a CD to run the game...it was at that point I realized that the developers truly started with the ideology of "how can we deliver the best experience" and this really shows not only in the game but in the little things outside the game like the fact that it runs without a CD ... as someone who plays games on a laptop I hate having to carry CD's with me, so often I'll just download the ISO of a game for the mere convenience of having it on the go.

So kudos to the developers for making something that doesn't frustrate us, except for when those frigates attack :D

:) Wait till you discover you don't need the CD for LAN games either.

Thanks for your support! Hope you're having fun!

Raises hand
Guilty as charged
Bought it for the stated reasons in post one and for the attitude of the devs (ie monitoring the forum and often engaging with the community) :CONGRAT:

That was the reason why I bought the first GalCiv. Nowadays is still that, but also because a game like sins is actually good and it's my kind of game.

I have to admit that I now wouldn't buy a game just by a matter of business model. It also has to suit my needs (i.e. my place of work is in China which is VERY far away from a gaming retailer, and the direct download feature instantly put a smile on my face).

Their hassle-free stance from a costumer's perspective is certainly a major factor when I choose games in the market. And it's that kind of stance that deserves to be pirate-free.

Stardock and now Ironclad will most certainly have my immediate attention for whatever gaming products (or otherwise) they make.

I'll always support companies who don't treat me like a criminal (Microsoft/2k with this crap "activation" nonsense...wtf??? Starforce copy protection...are you serious? etc etc).

More importantly, these guys keep kicking out tremendous games. I have to admit my first Gal Civ was snagged off the internet to see what it was but as soon as the wife got addicted, I knew it was time to pony up the cash, and we've purchased Gal Civ 2, the expansion, and now Sins.

Been waiting for Sins since I checked it out waaaay back in Beta 2 :)

I think one other thing that we are most grateful for is that she and I can play together over the LAN without having to purchase 2 copies. I've about had it with anyone who tries to make me buy 2 copies just so she and I can play together.

I can't wait to see what comes out next.

Shitty games you torrent (Yarlen dont be mad at me)

But good games you buy simple. Stardock and Paradox are companies you support as they make cool games and then they deserve all the respect and support you can give. Heck I even refused to play on hamachi when some asked. I WILL NOT play SOASE on hamachi :) You wanna play meet me on ICO hehehe (Yarlen that gave you two more sales btw ;) )

As a consumer, I don't buy things just to give my money to some one. I want the product, and that's the reason I bought this game.

But compared to other games, this game I just instantly bought through direct download. No need for a demo (I find demos gimped most of the time anyway), just open the wallet and hoist up. And I have no regrets!

Now, it has to be said I know Stardock from back in the OS/2 days and I've spend many hours in the first Galactic Civilization. And Sins of the Solar Empire just shows so many of the trademarks I've come to expect from their products. Most noticeable to me is: Good customer dialog, product design and strong optimized code (not many new titles can effectively be played on older boxes today)

When buying Sins online, I took the the liberty to fetch the full GalCiv2 package (incl. upcoming expansion), as I just knew that those two titles pack such an amount of replay value. Add to that, they are actually pretty cheap.

Now I'll stop and figure out how to edit this post, so it doesn't sound like I'm a complete fan-boi :D

To be honest, I first downloaded this game (from a torrent) to see if it was any good, a day later I bought it because it's a good game and to support the developers. It's only fair that you pay for games that you like.

Actually since I've started working, I've been buying games that I downloaded when I was a student, because I didn't have the money back then to buy them. As a developer I know that a lot of hours, effort, creativity, ... crawl into a project.

Respect btw to the devs for being so active and helpful in the forum... another reason to support smaller game companies.
