Sins of a Solar Empire: INVASION is an addon project aiming to expand upon the existing universe of the Sins of a Solar Empire, providing original and high-quality content on top of the original game. Aside from the new content, the addon will also include multiplayer-friendly gameplay changes as well as reworked or new visuals/sounds.

Planned changes/content will include:

  •  A new playable race, created to the highest quality standards. The Xin are a race of utterly alien origin, and the massive fleets of their living, semi-sentient ships have been ravaging the galaxy for millenia. Countless races have perished under their onslaught - and now TEC, Advent and the Vasari will have to face this terrible enemy and win - or die trying.
    Assume the role of the defenders and try to stem the tide of death and destruction, or take command of the invading armada and destroy the impertinent insects wherever they choose to make their last stand. 
  • Volumetric Explosions & Damage Effects, providing not only greater excitement to your space battles by transforming all explosions and persistent damage effect into true 3D affairs, but also better visual cues as to how the battle is going, enabling you to spot at a first glance the hotspots and even the level of damage on particular ships.
  • Dynamic Battle System, where each ship class' strenghts and uses are not determined only by its stats and abilities, but also by its flight characteristics. Certain ship classes will be able to move during fleet battles, which, coupled with the reworked stats of all ship classes should prevent "cookie-cutter" or "spam" strategies.
  • New Ship Classes for the new faction, ranging from specialist ships such as the Warmaster or Emperor Battlecruiser all the way to Titans acting as mobile superweapons capable of facing down an entire fleet on their own or even destroying an entire gravity well in one powerful surge.
  • Reworked Balancing, aiming to further focus various ship classes on their roles, removing any overlapping advantages which ultimately make one ship type or the other the ship to produce. Changes will also include increased gravity wells as well as greater class difference in turning rates and top speeds in order to further accentualize fleet placement, strategic positioning of forward bases and other such details which a great admiral make.
  • New Planet Types, which will also be visually enhanced, primarily by increasing their size in order to make them a true centerpiece of a given sector. New planet types will provide greater variety without providing game-breaking advantages to players.
  • Enlarged Gravity Wells which, coupled with the dynamic nature of space combat, will challenge players to an even greater level, requiring careful placements of planetary defenses and orbital structures, as well as fleets.
  • Unique Structures for the new faction, ranging from formidable Heavy Defense Batteries to deployable Outposts which will be capable of guarding even sectors around otherwise uninhabitable astronomical bodies such as stars or gas giants.

Manshooter has stated he does work for Blizzard I believe in previous posts. While I might agree with you with them being semi-evil for not releasing Starcraft II and pushing the title 3 years past the date it was SUPPOSE to be released. They did a pretty good job on it and it was worth the wait

Actually, I believe that award may go to the Dawn of Victory mod, but this would still be #2.

Not sure if this has been said before, but when I look at the design of the Xin chassis, I would say they were an aquatic race.  I'd like to know if you plan on releasing what they look like at some point :P

that moddb video where you texture the citadel,was that xsi texxturing or zbrush,and if it is xsi what texture are you using to make these magnificent ships?

Sheesh, talk about a late reply, sorry guys.

Fredled, the citadel video is all ZBrush. I don't think I could have made the detailing on the ships via traditional means without going insane, its a great tool.

Sylenall, Dynamic Combat 1.0 should be released tomorrow,  as for the big mod, a little while longer. There will be an open beta test announced when the core is ready (minus complete sound pack, icon pack etc.) so people can help iron out the bugs and enjoy some freshness to the game.

i only discoverd your mod yesterday and i have to say it looks awsome.

due to me playing diplomasy alot, sometimes with my m8s over LAN, can you give me a rough time for the dynamic movment diplomasy release?

hey Mansh00ter,i thought  it was interesting how looking at the moddb page the first 2-3 pics you posted back waaaaaay in '08 look like crap (no offense) and the the next 2-3 look a little better and the next 2-3 better then the last and so on.until you have the last 10 pics which look truly god-like,just wanted to say that the mod is really getting and coming together better then ever,cant wait for a full release

@Fredled, yeah, I've learned a lot about game asset production since the first stuff I made for this mod. I actually had to go back and redo some of the earliest models because they were too fugly compared to the latest stuff.

I'm currently away on a trip of worldly adventure, discovery and excitement, but when I return there shall be some definitive finishing moves. ;) The Diplomacy version of the Dynamic minimod should be done within a week though, ain't portable hard-drives a neat thing...

Very inspiring mod indeed, just looking at the models and the ships has re-piqued my interest in 3d modelling and shading, an interest that had once urged me to go forth and study the arts of computer sciences but which had been subsequently neutralized after all that C++ and SQL assignments i've had to go through.

Just wondering, are u determined to work on this alone all the way or do u have any plans to include, accommodate or just simply allow any others to chip in to help with the gargantuan amount of work you have already been through and will be going through further for the other 2 races? I apologize if u had mentioned this before but I simply could not find (or might have missed) any mention of such on your moddb page or within this thread.

And yea, kudos to you on your excellent conceptual design, all in terms of plot/storyline, gameplay mechanics and ship models. Its been awhile.
