Sins of a Solar Empire: INVASION is an addon project aiming to expand upon the existing universe of the Sins of a Solar Empire, providing original and high-quality content on top of the original game. Aside from the new content, the addon will also include multiplayer-friendly gameplay changes as well as reworked or new visuals/sounds.

Planned changes/content will include:

  •  A new playable race, created to the highest quality standards. The Xin are a race of utterly alien origin, and the massive fleets of their living, semi-sentient ships have been ravaging the galaxy for millenia. Countless races have perished under their onslaught - and now TEC, Advent and the Vasari will have to face this terrible enemy and win - or die trying.
    Assume the role of the defenders and try to stem the tide of death and destruction, or take command of the invading armada and destroy the impertinent insects wherever they choose to make their last stand. 
  • Volumetric Explosions & Damage Effects, providing not only greater excitement to your space battles by transforming all explosions and persistent damage effect into true 3D affairs, but also better visual cues as to how the battle is going, enabling you to spot at a first glance the hotspots and even the level of damage on particular ships.
  • Dynamic Battle System, where each ship class' strenghts and uses are not determined only by its stats and abilities, but also by its flight characteristics. Certain ship classes will be able to move during fleet battles, which, coupled with the reworked stats of all ship classes should prevent "cookie-cutter" or "spam" strategies.
  • New Ship Classes for the new faction, ranging from specialist ships such as the Warmaster or Emperor Battlecruiser all the way to Titans acting as mobile superweapons capable of facing down an entire fleet on their own or even destroying an entire gravity well in one powerful surge.
  • Reworked Balancing, aiming to further focus various ship classes on their roles, removing any overlapping advantages which ultimately make one ship type or the other the ship to produce. Changes will also include increased gravity wells as well as greater class difference in turning rates and top speeds in order to further accentualize fleet placement, strategic positioning of forward bases and other such details which a great admiral make.
  • New Planet Types, which will also be visually enhanced, primarily by increasing their size in order to make them a true centerpiece of a given sector. New planet types will provide greater variety without providing game-breaking advantages to players.
  • Enlarged Gravity Wells which, coupled with the dynamic nature of space combat, will challenge players to an even greater level, requiring careful placements of planetary defenses and orbital structures, as well as fleets.
  • Unique Structures for the new faction, ranging from formidable Heavy Defense Batteries to deployable Outposts which will be capable of guarding even sectors around otherwise uninhabitable astronomical bodies such as stars or gas giants.

What're you doing with the original models and textures? Any plans to release them once you release Last Stand?

If the models themselves were never released to the public community then they are still considered private property I'm sure. Besides, we're getting nice shiny new models!!! :andrew:

The reason why I say he probably will not or ever release the models is because they are from his own library of models for his project, no doubt the story behind it and everything he's worked for is kind of original.

I would be in the same position but I have already released some of my models for use to Zombierus in his mod, though I doubt I'll ever let anyone else use them because of that because they are from my own little universe of a book I am writing.

Personally I am excited to hear about the new expansion, because it will bring the rest of the Sins races to the level of Xin (only more pathetic, of course). One of my biggest concerns was that vanilla races lacked specialized Assault Capitals and Titans that the Xin will have, which threatened to unbalance gameplay in favour of Xin and complicate stuff for me development-wise.

With Rebellion's release I won't have to worry about that.

I was most excited to learn of new ship classes (corvettes and Titans) because of your mod and some others. It will make it MUCH easier to implement these ships into the game with Rebellion and have them alot more AI Capable (assuming, of course, the AI will EVER build Titans) so that single-player isn't ruled out for a decent mod experience.

I'm looking forward to your Titan-class ships, ManSh00ter, and your models look AMAZING. Good luck with the continued remodeling and optimization, i'm glad you didn't give up when you seemed to hit a wall with memory usage so far back.

Gameinfo is easy. Its just XML shufflework. Modelling and texturing is most time consuming and the new expansion won't affect what's already done since they're not exactly rolling out a whole new engine.

I haven't eaten or slept since this mod was announced. My strength is waning Manshooter, please, release it.. and save me, I'm not sure if I can reply again, I have barely enough strength to type this one, please, Manshooter, only you can save me now.

On a serious note take your time with the mod, it's shaping up to be a master piece, you have some serious talent, everytime you release some new screens I find myself with an erection that lasts around 2 weeks, give or take a few days.

Finally, I don't want to ask this, because it's done when it's done, but my desire to play this is greater than my ability to sit tight, so could I ask, how far are you with the mod currently? Completion wise? I know it's done when it's done and I expect nothing less, but it's so tantilising I have to ask. D:

haeZen, competion wise, the mod is coming along nicely and I assure you it will be released when it's done. :p

More screens, this time its the Sovereign-class planet buster. Spits out living missile drones, larger warrior drones,
hot beams of plasma death and an occasional gob of superheated, yes, plasma. Xin love plasma!
