IronClad And firewalls/routers

Anybody body have any success in using IronClad to host games?

My friend and I have tried and have been unsuccessful.

We've spent time playing with our Firewall and Router settings far more than actually playing the game. Opening and forwarding port 6112, and we discovered later, there was a port 6000 too. But nothing works.

Now seeing that we didn't have to screw around with the settings AT ALL with HellGate London, I think a little time needs to be spent working on this feature of the game. if not, at minimum providing extensive information on what ports and protocals are used by the game. As we find, there is little if any information about it.

thanks

You can try enabling DMZ in your router settings.

hmmm,

1st of all i would assign a static ip to your pc, via windows or via various dhcp options in your router (depends on model),

then you should create a rule in your router which forwards tcp port 6112 to your ip on port 6112,
as well another rule for udp (same as tcp rule), some routers even let you choose both protocols in one rule. that should be all and works fine...
and also you may disable the windows firewall, and any other software firewall, you wont need it unless you wanna see which proggies may call home ;)

I have the same problem. Zero firewall, zero router.

I can host every other game out there, including supreme commander, which is a bear at times.

^^ I also agree. I think its a common flaw in the game. I have tested this on a couple of computers and played around with the Router settings. Even with a CCNA behind me I still cant figure out why i cannot host a game. Hopefully in the next patch this flaw with the game will be solved.

I had the same problem with this, it turned out I was using the wrong IP address the whole time. First you want to make sure UPnP is enabled on your router. Then you want to go to your port forwarding and open up port 6112 from your router. Use the IP address from this:

Go to Start on your desktop. Select Run. Then type in CMD. From there type in IPconfig This command will give you your IP address that you should use when forwarding your port on your router. This should open the game up to hosting.

Hope this helps.

thanks guys. I got it to work. UPnP doesn't work. I had to manually set the router to fowards packets once i did that it started working. I still get the message that it doesn't work from the game but it does.

thanks

ps. and ya hellgate is server based. Guess that was a bad example. :P

uPnP is spotty at best. It's mostly just a "if you're lucky, you won't have to change your settings" thing, as a number of routers that support it tend to ignore uPnP requests anyway.

Please don't try comparing Sins netcode to other games though--most of them are server-based, use UDP, or both. Sins is peer to peer TCP, which while it should make for a more reliable game experience (no random desyncs mid-game, etc) without requiring a dedicated server, does appear to be a little more picky as to NAT and filtering settings that it can get through.
