do u see urself playing soase in 2 months time?

i see myself probably playing the game for another 2 months at least. right now i play at least 3 hours a day of games and its all spent on soase. but i think ill go back to coh, the best rts ever, after 2 months time.

my reasons are because races r pretty much the same, combat is boring to look at sometimes, and in the end its all about who has the most ships, who can swarm the best. the only thing that could make me want to stick to soase after two months time are the mods which im sure should make the game way better like most mods do.

what about you?

Well, I think Stardock and Ironclad will be adding and tweaking quite a bit, so I think I'll be keeping it on my PC for awhile.

But more importantly, as I get better at the game, I'll start to play on maps with more and more planets, which will give me the kind of strategic challenge that few games can match.

I'm always looking for new gaming experiences, but I'd like to test the limits of my strategic abilities. Besides, other RTSes are so similar to one another, except with one or two new features, different graphics, and a little more or little less polish. Woohoo. ;p

unless the expansion blows me away, i see myself playing this game a few years from now. this will never get old for a mental challenge.

I'll probably be playing it off and on when I get tired of whatever else happens to be big on the scene (the new Dawn of War expansion, for example).

I think I'll keep playing if they fix the AI a bit.
Even with aggressive AIs it's a bit of a waiting game before they attack (I'm a bit of a turtle by nature) and like mentioned a few times they pretty much don't use anything but frigs and sometimes also a few groups of carrier cruisers. If they fix it up to be more like humans (ie. compose different and more varied fleets, actually tech up beyond T3/T4 and such) I'd find myself playing it a lot more than I already do.

yes considering the new patchs comming out :)

My guess is we will see some super-cool expansion pack that adds news races and content. Look at the amazing support for GalCiv2.

I'm looking forward to see how the game evolves with patches and mods, but right now I'm already losing interest in it. I really miss being able to design ships, and the current diplomacy model is just not fun.

Although I'm really glad stardock and ironclad have a hit on their hands, and am sure things will improve in the future, I really don't see what this game currently offers that Sword of the Stars doesn't do better.

Game needs a rewrite of the AI if it is going to have any longevity. I am no expert by any means and I can now walk all over the AI playing hard and random medium size galaxy after just a handful of games. The worst part is knowing that you won but still having to slog it out for 3 more hours to finish it.

Now I have not played multiplayer, which in my opinion does wonders in extending the life of any game. (Full disclosure, with the exception of Civ and EU3, no single player games captures my attention for more than a month - it's all about the multiplayer aspect.) Unfortunately, I have kids so I do not have the uninterrupted block of time to allow me to play a Sins game online.

Absolutely -- with updates and mods on the horizon, this game for me should have a long life and is a game I will come back to again and again. And that is before any possible expansion pack.

Sure, with the additional content upcoming.

It won't be the only thing I play, and it's not the only thing atm. I dabble also in Medieval 2 and Guildwars.

I'll still be playing. I'll probably burn out in 2-3 months and then it will just enter my rotation with Civ 4, GalCiv 2 and Oblivion. :)

Very few games keep me occupied for any length of time except for MMORPGs.

Even some of my favorites, like GalCiv or Civ IV aren't games I play constantly. It's more like I go thru spurts of playing them obsessively for several weeks then don't play them at all for a while, but always return to them over time, because they're games with infinite replay value.

I'll likely play Sins similar to how I play GalCiv or Civ4 - in spurts.

I don't generally stick to one game for months on end. I like to rotate through favorites. SoaSE is definitely going to be in my rotation for a long time. It reminds me of another game a played a lot way back when. It was called Conquest:Frontier Wars. SoaSE is a better version of that game so I see myself keeping SoaSE on the hard drive a long long time.

The game while it seems simple has a lot of subtleties to it that become apparent after playing for awhile. There's a lot of strategy to be found here. Sure there are things that need improvement but Stardock/Ironclad is on it. They are great at continual support and polishing of their games. Galciv2 (which I've played since it's release) has been supported heavily over the years. I see it being no different with SoaSE.

I love and still play Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, Company of Heroes: opposing fronts, Dawn of War:Dark Crusade, and Medieval:Total war 2. I don't play them constantly but I do return to them often when I feel like having the particular experience they give. I currently am playing SoaSE heavily (just cause it's so time intensive) and Forged Alliance with some Coh:Opposing fronts from time to time. I'm also itching to play some Galciv2 again but been holding off for the expansion pack which will no doubt distract me from SoaSE for awhile. I'm also curious about Sword of the Stars because of posts on this forum. I avoided it before due to Starforce copy protection.

The only games I have ever played almost constantly (weekly) for years were Tribes 2, the Neverwinter Nights series with expansions and modules, and Elder scrolls Oblivion with a hefty amount of cool mods.

Depends on how good the mods that are released are.

Well, let's see...

A game with this massive a scale, a pre built community of dedicated modders who have just been given the final of the .entity files (myself included) and a working relationship with the devs, and spore has been pushed back another several months(!!!!!!!!)? Yeah...I'll be here for at least that long.

Two more months of this game? I suppose... but Twilight of Arnor comes out soon :)

You people really need to listen to yourselves. A lot of people put a lot of time into this great game. Whats the matter?, the ould attention span gettin too short these days? Thanks to comments like these the quality of games in general has gone seiously downhill cos developers start thinking people dont want to play games with long term appeal any more, and the market becomes dominated by games aimed at a mass market. Come on, you know the type of games im talking about. Just about 80% of whats on the shelves at the moment, in game stores everywhere. Games like SINS come along once in awhile so be careful what you say, and where you say it; cos people are listening.

I know how games like this, especially with Stardock's support, will evolve over time. I commend and applaud the effort of the guys at Ironclad, not just with a forum post or two, but with $50. The original poster asked an important and valid question. We know the devs listen, without our input how will they know where to focus their efforts to improve this franchise? I didn't come here to rain on anyone's parade, or drive the market to be more mainstream. It's the desire for a game with "long term appeal" that inspires people to post critisms sometimes. I don't think you need to worry that if people state what they don't enjoy, constructively, that anyone's going to get thier feelings hurt.
