RTS Space Games

I'm sure many of you have played many space RTS games, so name your favorites and why.

[Warning Rant Follows]

Of all the ones I have played I personally have to say the Fragile Allegiance[1] was the best I have ever played so far due to the depth of gameplay, wasn't to heavily storied but what it did have fit in well. So far Sins is the closest game to have that depth.

Quite hard to describe the game but if you have a system prior to XP i would suggest getting a copy, it is currently consider abandoned ware, a few differences to mention would be it was based in the "Fragmented Sectors" think asteroid belt like the one between our 4th and 5th planet, the object was to colonize the asteroids and mine them while competing in a "Trade War" with up to 5 other alien races. With multiple ore types some worthless except for selling, while most was needed for ships missiles and spy satellites other more rare ones needed for construction of more powerful missiles [nuclear, virus, stasis, and Mega Missile(which destroys whichever asteroid it hits.)] And the employment of Staff to govern over one or more asteroids, or a spy to sabotage or gather information from enemies, nothing like a power outage before a 100 or more missiles enter orbit to knock out the anti-missile turrets and area shields, or to knock out their anti-ship turrets...

Umm... sorry for rant.

[1] Fragile Allegiance was then name of the second game, it is also known as K240.

Fragile allegiance was indeed pretty good. (now you've made me promise myself to go find the box later :p )

My personal favorites in terms of Space RTS would have to be:

Imperium Galactica 2:
In essence very much like Sins, although due to the amount of management that needs doing you'd use the pause button a whole lot more. (that game would have been uttery amazing with something like the Empire tree)

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident:
Simply Amazing. Very heavily story driven game, so less freedom than in many other games but very well done. Although the controls (especially object independent ship navigation) are a bit tricky to get a hang off. But overal an incredible combination of graphics, gameplay and story. Having all the ships behave semi-newtonian in terms of physics was cool too, seeing ships firing retro's, and maneuvering thrusters to make turns and such.

Yep, Nexus was definitely something for its time. I've actually played through it again just recently, and it still looks really good, too.

It was a great tactical game, for sure.

Hi gents .... talking about space RTS do you guys remember a game called O.R.B ?

was a great game and i believe Sins has picked up where ORB left off.

ORB was one of the most horrible RTS games i've ever played... Do not pay more then $5 for it.

Nexus might have been good... but the complete lack of a tutorial with the demo killed it for me. I couldn't play the demo, so no way I'm plunking down the cash for the "full" version.

Star Wars Empire at War was really good imo. It had a land and space mode to it.

I still have fond memories of playing this old RTS Space game:

Overlord

Pretty simple but is so complicated to get a victory over that blasted Overlord Korn. X-(

End of quote

O.R.B is long since dead ,but was much fun when it was first released, but due to de-sync issues and among other things with multiplayer, the game eventually died.

To bad they gave up on it though it did have potential !

Nothing personal, but Star Wars Empires at War had a glaring flaw for me- I could easily get it so I couldn't lose. Makes the game sort of pointless.

This will be my forth space RTS after Homeworld, Empires at War and Conquest: Frontier War. I don't play games much, except when I get hocked. I liked Conquest- it is rather similar to this game. Including some of the most common Scifi tropes. Still was a pretty good game. Anyone else played it?
