New research categories possible?

Anyone figured out how to add, new science categories.

My intention is to create racespecific techtrees in adittion to the existing combat/non-combat lines.

Now my problems start with me being unable to add new boxes/blocks in the researchscreen interface.

Any succes on your side? a forth block added to the existing categories or a new category would both help.

i dont believe you can at this time as ive been messing with the research stuff ever since they placed the mods pack up
read my other post -- https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=443&aid=178167
i know you can modify the numbers ingame and if you know how to write the information in the format probably add in new technologies but this may be a bit more time consuming and frustrating than most are willing to go, as at this time i dont know how you would get them to show up in game. maybe if you dont want artifacts you can put it in there yet i wouldnt try and some of the artifacts are very nice

But this is definetely something i would BEG for at a later time

Yea, I think that there are some files that are missing to create more for the research tree. There is the ResearchScreen.Window file in the beta tools though. It makes a bit of since how stuff is organised however there is more that is probably in some other file.

Im sure its possible just probably not at the moment.

If you want to modify the UI, you need to take a look at the /window folder, since all the elements are there. From what I have seen, it is possible to add new research categories, but it would involve editing a number of files. Right now, adding new technologies involves first editing the racial .entity file, then creating the appropriate research subject .entity file as well as adding necessary stuff like descriptions into the english.str file.

I already suceeded in adding new technologies in game, like Gas Giant colonization, but that was just editing existing tech trees. The most work in adding a new tree would be in fact editing the UI without messing it up, since it can get a bit wobbly if one is not careful.
