To focus fire or not to focus fire?

That is the question

After reading a thread on vasari phase missles, I have 2 questions:

1) As vasari, in general is it good to focus fire, provided you are using phase missles?

2) As non-vasari, in general is it good NOT to focus fire?

Thanks.

as long as its an appropriate target.

many newer players make the mistake of focus firing on my tank cap in the first battle in 1v1, so before its shields go down it becomes my ~10 ships+cap vs enemy cap and his ~10 dead ships.

But isn't the shield mitigation thingy an "anti-focus fire" defense, making focus fire bad, unless you are using vasari phase missles to bypass the shield mitigation?

Thanks.

If I must, I queue by unit types. And if I have a lot of 1 unit, I separate em into grps. This is especially true of missile ships that will overshoot because of the ordinance travel times.

You don't want to split ships 1 to 1 for firing, but you also don't want your entire fleet shooting at something that's built up to 70%+ mitigation. Vasari can get away with it easier, but otherwise it varies from situation to situation.
