Crash on Vista...

I am wondering if I am one of the millions having this same Vista Problem.
I play on a dual core 2.6 Intel, with 3.2GB of ram ( 4 installed but vista only reads 3.2)
with a Nvidia 7600 (256mb) video card. I get the problem with new and previously loaded games. The whole screen will freeze, can't zoom or move, but the mouse works. Task manager says the application is not responding. But sometimes, after some time, maybe 5 - 10 minutes, I can zoom again and go to different screens, but I can't click on my ships to have them move anywhere.

I can create a dump file from the task manager screen if needed, but just wondering if I'm screwed until someone fixes this.

Greetings.

I am adding a note to the one above..

I installed NVIDIA DRIVER 97.46 referenced in PoorManDSO's rather loud yet helpful message 10 slots above this one.

I played about 2.5 hours and the problem did not repeat itself.

This is in reference to the complaint I had listed above this message.

The url for the NVIDIA DRIVER 97.46 I will repeat here.

vista 32 bit -
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_97.46.html

vista 64 bit -
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_97.46.html

Dunno if a longer play time will cause problem to happen again. I feel like I first had the problem pretty early on, then with increasing regularity. So 2.5 hours and no glitch is better. But maybe a longer session will see the problem return.

Good luck!

no, when it does that, it's the video drivers, but instead of just pointing at one single driver, I usually point at the tool that lets you pick from the beta and release drivers .. lemme find it real quick, and I'll link it here. . . . . there it is

I'm personally running 175.16, brand spanking new and shiny ;)

The issue was fixed in the 174+ drivers, so there should no longer be any need to use such old and outdated ones.
