making the game smarter through the metaverse

The back of the game box says that the game AI can look at other player strategies in the Metaverse to improve it's AI.

Is this feature working? How do I access it?

As far as I know, the game does not do it just by itself, the wording on the box is misleading. AI improvements will be released via patches after the development team analyzes metaverse strategies, if I understand it correctly.

I believe its not working currently, as there were privacy concerns regarding it. That said i *really* hope they start doing some AI updates using it :D Its an impressive feature

I agree that the concept is brilliant. as close as we can get to 'learning' AI I guess. my impression is that the top player's strategies will be used in updating the AI, or perhaps even having multple AI 'styles'. so, you'll kinda be playing everybody else out there, yet with all the advantages of a single player game. whoa, trippy ;)

It says in the manual that GalCiv can download AI strateges from the Metaverse and Stardock hopes to get it to the point where you can download an AI that plays like a specific person. However, manuals are written before the game goes gold, and so this might not be the case. Still, you can use this to prove that computer games do contribute to science.

This feature IS working.

Every game submitted included data on how people played and what strategies they used. To overcome privacy issues Stardock decided that they would not 'automatically' update AI's. They will eventually add improved AI's to the download section based on the results currently being submitted to the Metaverse.

They should also take the AIs generated by submissions from really bad players (like myself) in order to make the game easier for people who are regularly beaten by fool-level AIs LOL

"What the ... the AI has no ships, no economy, his only strengths are in culture and tech and he's just declared war on the vastly powerful I-League ..?"

Well technically its not working as advertised solitar :P

In fact i think i might prefer this method, i was worried about the AI messing itself up should it download some weird ass strategy, or i had visions of it not understanding and coping with illogical human decisions, and thus not being able to interpret and incorporate them successfully.

Lucky i still only win half the time on normal ;) so getting an improved AI is something i can wait for

Sort of a "The Mouse That Roared" philosophy? LOL
