BIG PROBLEM

On the back on the Galactic Civilizations Gold Edition box It reads....

Under system Requirements:
Multiplayer: 56k Modem or LAN

Now my big problem is that this was a "LIE".
I don’t think there is a multiplayer function that you can play other players.

I bought the game to play my friends at it over LAN. But it turns out that we cant or dont know how to.

Were StarDock lying when they said Multiplayer over Modem or LAN?
Is it just a cheap way to get people to buy their game!!!!!!!!

I am really stressed about this. Cause i was looking forward to some LAN play. And that it cost me £20.00.

I'm not knocking the game. Cause the game is actually really good. Its just the fact that they had to lie and bring my hopes up for nothing.

The "Multiplayer" relates to the Metaverse, were you can submit won games, which requires an internet conection. I don't know where you got the game from (country) but over here there was no "this game can be played by multiplayer" coment on the box.

Of cause I knew the original versions, and the site before the game was released in germany, so I knew it won't have a hotseat or LAN game mode

Hi Icho. I got the game from England

Ohhh i see, So when it says Modem or Lan. It means you need a modem to submit your scores. But if thats the case why would it say LAN. Or even the Word Muliplayer.

Man this english version of the game i got. Really lies to the buyer.

Ohh well. I dont think i'll return it cuase it is a good game even though i cant play multiplayer on it as i was promised on the box.

Do you think i could sue them?
No just joking

I have never seen multiplayer mentioned in the featurelist, too. In my eyes it is an unlucky incident :sniff!: that you thought it is a multiplayer game. But it's not a lie of Stardock! :sniff!:

But it's still worth the £20.00. ;p In fact it's my favorite game. Don't feel too sad. I hope you have got the budget to get another one for your LAN parties :notsure:

AFAIK the successor GC2 is planned to have a multiplayer feature. It might be scheduled for the expansion, I'm not sure.

But yeah i agree the game is actually really good.

Mac another good thing is that you can challenge your buddies to join or create an empire and then compete against each other to see who can get a better score and escalate the Metaverse ladder. ;)

Just FYI, the sequel is NOT going to have multiplayer in the initial release. Stardock has said "Maybe in an expansion," which I'm pretty sure translates to "No, quit bugging us." They just don't believe that a multiplayer feature would generate enough extra sales, over and above the number of people who would buy it without multiplayer, to justify the cost of implementing it. I suspect that if they did reach the point where they were seriously considering making a multiplayer expansion they wouldn't invest too much into it until a sufficient number of people had put their money where their mouths are by pre-ording it.

End of quote

If this is really on the package, it's misleading, that is true. Perhaps it should be clarified on the package that this is needed for the updates and the "online-highscore".:notsure:

Apart from that you have bought one of the best strategy games available. :D

It's a pity that the box has multiplayer written on it because the game is not multiplayer. You can probably return the game to where you bought it. Most of the UK game shops will accept returns is the system specs don't work. Multiplayer doesn't work so therefore you can return it.

It is an excellent single player game though!

Brad has stated that the Galciv2 will NOT have multiplayer from the start. He has promised that they will poll people once it is released to determine if enough people would multiplayer. If enough people are interested they will make a multiplayer expansion.

Yeah, i dont know why the company allowed the box to be released with such an obvious mistake on it.

Well obviously enough people would want multiplayer. I dont see who wouldn't like to play multiplayer. It a new challange from the AI.

It's quite likely that whoever approved the box had never actually played the game. There are probably at least two publishing companies between the box and Stardock in this case.

I'd certainly give multiplayer a go at least once or twice if it was included. I'm not sure if I would pay an extra $20 for a multiplayer expansion, though. I'm sure that I would buy the base game with or without multiplayer, so the huge cost of incorporating multiplayer into the game for the initial release wouldn't get Stardock any more money from people like me.

I would also buy the maultiplayer expansion if it came.

My dream would be to play PBEMs like I can with SMAC.
