A little story about the I-League's "resolve"...

Anyone bare witness to the I-League "insurgency" like I have? This is one game which made the point of having the minor races more involved in the "goings-on" in the galaxy.

(This was one of my first games, so things were set low (sub-normal intel on main races.) The races were their default settings.)

So it's just past the early stages of land grabbing and stellar sprawl, when a notice pops about "We're the I-League, beware, blardy blar and hoo-dee-doo." Yeah, yeah get back in line. My main focus thus far was to be a race of trading freaks and tech hungry mofs. Things were going as planned. I was nestled between the Drengin and the ass end of space (corner). The galaxy size was Giganticus, so my trading partners were somewhat limited. So, to my begrudgings I heavily traded with the Dregs, I league and the other silly minor biscuit races. The Yor and Dregs were waging war on Alts and Arcs (typical) and the Torians were busy making off beat tech requests (HyperDrive for Advanced Trade?) The I-League sector control was orange (yeah, I actually saw a minor league sector control color!) And as I toggled the TURN, their squares quadrupled! I thought I had better keep my eye on this. I toggeled the pop and manufact tabs on the mini map... results were shocking- ILeague was beginning to be a power house.

"Our war with the I League does not go well, can you be of any help in this time of suck?" goes the lizard faced mug of whatever puppet was in control of the Dreg senate. Odd... they were doing so well too. As soon as I hit DONE< Freak-a-zoid from the Yor had the same sentiments. Uhh... at this point I was glad to have been trading with the I-League. Their sector control seemed to quadruple every turn!

I started killing routes with Dreg and Yor as far as trade goes and dedicated to I-League... my military was in NO shape to fend off hording I-Leaguers. SO boom, like 10 turns later- the thriving Yor have turned themselves over to the Dregs and had lost half their planets before they finally did it. I-Leaguers, didn't break stride and went straight for the throat of the Dregs and it wasn't long before they crumbled like a paper cup in a hail storm. I actually got to see the conquered screen "...the Dreg be no mo' yo."

Wow, I was impressed... and smart about it. I made it my mission to have the I league want to ally with me. I threw all the tech I could at them and added other trade routes to them. It wasn't long till they were eager to Ally. Of course, this is where the course of trade/tech power house turns into relunctant warrior. Immediately, the I league declared war and pretty much everyone else. I got 6 notices in a row about "we are going slap up these mofs, your alliance means you need to help... you down?" UGH. Of course, fearing elimination, I agreed. Which kinda sucked because I was "trying" to be chaotic good to neutral and going to war with the noteable good races- meant bad things. The I league was just out for blood... luckily it wasn't Terran blood they craved!

So together we proceeded to kill off or enslave the others- including all other minors (those poor Jarkians, they just "arrived" before they got the "... the jarkians are peace out." I'm not kidding, they lasted ONE TURN.)

In the end, we ended up splitting the galaxy almost clearly down the middle- one side blue, one side puke-orange. I was jsut amazed that these little Leaguers were so ambitious. Just more testament to how great the game is and how many variables it can throw your way.

But it does lead me to believe that the Minor races should have more of a chance to become more Galactically minded. Say for instance, if they reached a certain level either population, tech, or military wise- they could be the chance to have a UP vote to let them into the UP. That would rock. I exploit the minor races so much- they don't fuss much, do what you want most of the time, and RARELY do you run the risk of them wanting to throw-down.

Well, that's all for now. I hope you guys get to experience the I-League "Cleansing" in one of your games!

ROFL

And it would rock if a minor race (that has been saving up influence for _years_) was allowed in to the UP - ah, the upset, the horror of it all! ;p

The I-Leauge was doing the same thing to the Drengin in the game I'm playing now. Of course it didn't help that my civ swallowed (colonized every system with in 3 sectors) thier sector very early on so they could never grow very big. Now it seems like they are just starting to beat the I-Leauge back, but they have asked for assistance from me twice. Dropped a couple grand, gave em a few ships, and they are good to go.

DOH! It happened again... only this time all the major races were neutral or evil (randomizer) and they were apparently the "good guys." Well since my major trading partners were evil- they saw me as evil! The only thing that gave me hope was that they were on the other side of a gigantic galaxy! I've never seen the minor races use Survey ships- but the I League had one (I think one of the other races gave it up, but not sure.)

None the less, they came for me like they came for the others. It's amazing too, by that point I had Avatars and even some Overlords... all OWNED by I-League Rangers with 65 attack points!!!

As my last systems fell, I thought "I've jut been owned by a 'minor' race..." I eve did the quotes thing with my fingers as I said minor.

Minor races- keep your eye on them lil' bastards!

The I-League is listed as one of the minor races only because they don't count for consideration of other's victory conditions. They, the Dreginol, the Dark Arnor, and the Fundamentalists are, for all intents, major races. They have the full capability to do anything the true majors can and, if given the chance, can complete victory conditions themselves.

The I-League (INDEPENDENT league) will control all the planets in rebellion. A few turns into the game you may see that non-alaigned worlds have formed the League. My guess is the Yor planets were rebelling like dominoes.

One thing to keep in mind

You set all majors to sub-normal right?
Well Im sure, since you cant set minors int. level, that they are prob always normal int. by default.
So it doesnt surprise me that the I-league was a power.

Sounds like it was a real fun game :)

I understand that the minors cannot be in the UP etc. But if they can attack you and the other races we should have the ability to spy and destablize when needed. I had a game where the I-League just decied to declare war on me. They rebelled against the Altarians and formed like 5-6 worlds. They were way advanced compared to me, and my morality was not that good from making some rather bad choices. This was my 2nd game, I wondered why my UI had turned a blood red, and this wierd satanic demon music was playing in the background. LOL I guess that is why they attacked me because they were from a pure good race not sure. I did demand tribute one time maybe that was it. :p

Many people have commented that the "major" minors like the I-League tend to beat up on the true major civs when those are set to lower intelligence, but not so much when the majors are smart.
