Resource base location on the map

One of the biggest pains in the tush I'm finding is locating a resource I've already found once. The current methods seem to be to activate the planet display and search for it that way, or to activate the ships display and search for it's star base if I or someone else has it under control. Both of these are an incredible pain if I've lost track of where it is.

Is there any other method I'm missing?

Unless you're on a gigantic map at 100-150% zoom, in which case they're dots like everything else. ;)

While we're at it though, it would be nice for previously discovered, but now AI-controlled resources to remain on the map in some fashion. I know there's a starbase there and I know that fog of war should prevent me from knowing how big it currently is, but the resource isn't going anywhere, so why not keep it marked?

The x should just never go away. When Im rushing (if 1 space a turn can be considered rushing)to a resource Ill turn away if the little x disappears knowing that another race beat me to it.I shouldnt be able to know that till im in sensor range.

The location dissappearing just makes no sence.

"Captain Constructo,You are to plot course to that military resource that Kirk reported 6 months ago."

"Yes sir,uh what are the coordinates?"

"Contact Kirk aboard the Hero and ask for his computer data."

"Understood"--------------

"OHH--that pointy red thing we saw?"

"Yes Kirk,That pointy red thing"
"Spock, where was that thingy we saw?"
"Capt.,You know ever since I mind-melded with that space shark I cant remember anything."
