Peition for lock spending & lock slider sommand, plus research & production overflow

In the early stages of the game, a common turn starts like this for me:

1): Set military spending to 100%
2): Adjust general spending slider to find best level of military spending so ships are completed with minimal waste
3): Write down number from #2
4): Set social spending to 100%
5): Adjust general spending slider to find best level of social spending so projects are completed with minimal waste
6): Write down number from #5
7): Set research spending to 100%
8): Adjust general spending slider to find best level of research spending so projects are completed with minimal waste
9): Write down number from #8
10): Sum up the three recorded numbers and adjust general spending to that level
11): Fiddle with sliders until production in all three areas are at desirable levels

So why am I making the game so difficult for myself? The answer is I must do this to avoid wasting as much as 30% of my production for naught and consequently losing the game. What I would really like to help alleviate this micromanagement nightmare is the following:

* Lock Spending Command

If I discover that 2,374 BC is the optimal military/social/research spending level, please allow me to lock in that spending and override the other sliders.

* Lock Slider Command

Please, save me from carpal tunnel!

* Research & Production Overflow

If full overflow makes it too easy for players to react to changing circumstances, please allow partial overflow at least. This would alleviate the need for precise micromanagement on higher difficulty levels and save you some time in writing a micromanagement algorithm for the AI.

While I have never done such micromanagement myself, I agree that those locked sliders would be very neat.

I think the overflow/no-production problem can be kept seperate from this. A lock slider button would be useful. End of discussion? :)
It's just that sometimes you want to be piling in 60% of your money into the military and just want to juggle the research and social sliders, to get good techs quicker and then get the improvements from it built quickly with higher social spending, for instance.

Useful! :)

I'll sign on to that. I don't get quite so micro as Z but when I have military 60, social 15 and Research 25 and want to switch to military 15, social 60 and Reseach 25, I don't want to have to fiddle with all three to get them to take. Locking research would be good.

Lock sliders would be awesome and I'll give a quick and easy example.

I want research at 50%. Period.
Have a checkbox to lock in research. Then I can change military and social all I want and research will not change. Same goes for mility and social. I lock in military at 30% I can then change the other two without military changing.

As it stands now, if I want research at 50%, as soon as I change either military or social, research changes as well.

Great suggestion!
