If I don't like galciv ii, will I like Sins?

Hello. I'm a big RTS gamer that's becoming a bit tired of the standards of the genre of late, a bit overloaded on the "formula" and such. So, being a fan of anything dealing with the great beyond that is space, I was naturally interested in this game. However, I've read many things relating it to GalCiv II, a game which I never could quite break into. I was wondering if my lack of enthusiasm for that game would carry over to this one, and perhaps prevent me from enjoying it? In particular, I find GalCiv II a bit too slow for its own good, compared to the Civilization games, my point of reference for TBS's. And I prefer space lanes to a flat plane of space, which Sins seems to solves.

Any input would be great.

Well, there's a lot bigger difference between Galciv and Sins than there is between Galciv and Civ. But most every strategy gamer I know that's tried Sins has liked it. And it's certainly faster paced than Galciv, though slow for an RTS.

There'll be a demo soon enough, hopefully.

I would wait for the demo - while I personally love Sins, there's no denying it's very slow-paced by RTS standards.

there isn't much of the diplomacy/espionage right now. sins is like an rts but slower paced with a bit more empire building, colonizing and research. a demo would suit you well though.

i love COH too, but i prefer slower larger scale. if you want the typical smaller scale faster paced more tactical rts, stick to COH.

Thanks for the replies, but I actually hate CoH with a flaming passion. It's the ultimate incarnation of the all the bad tendencies of the genre. Plus its not in space...

Oh, and Alpha Centauri is one of my favorite games, if that's a useful point of reference.

I have both Gal Civ 2 and Sins. The games play out very differently. Gal Civ has a lot more depth in general because it's turn based, while Sins has much more exciting combat / tactical gameplay. Sins is also multiplayer, which can make for much more interesting games, though its AI is slim compared to GC2's.

So you have your tradeoffs. Thankfully both are made by great teams that respond to their community and update often.

For what its worth I have no use for GalCiv II but love Sins. GC II just felt like it was going nowhere. Granted Sins can be a long affair but it has lots of action and strategy.

That's exactly how I feel about GalCiv II, AUDavo. Perhaps I'll like this game, then.
