A really stupid question that I dont know the answer to

Greetings everyone I have a really stupid question that many online gamers already know the answer to.  But for my personal experiance I've never have delt with.  So like a "noob" I don't understand.

Ok as for the question.

While playing a game I constantly seem to get the screen asking if I want to boot said player due to lag.  I dont have any counts under my ping colum, but theres is usally pretty high.  I don't understand the ping part of it really.  I do understand what a ping is (or well a very basic idea at least.  Small packets of information sent back an forth).   In other games that I play as well as just basic net usage I don't seem to every suffer much lag.  And if I do its in a highly populated area where I would expect it anyways.  I'm running a cable connection myself.

Are the high ping counts coming from my end of the connection or the other players?

Any helpful response on this would be very welcome.  And please excuse my typos, spelling was never my strong subject in school.

Due to this game's network structure (peer-to-peer) it could be any of the players connected to your game.

The slowest computer/internet connection will cause everyone to experience "slowdown".

try making sure the other's you're playing with are from around your area.

No he just needs to get a better connection the location has little or no impact(I'm in ALASKA and I have NO lag).

correct , as everyone else's game waits for the person with the slowest connection to finish sending data to them.

Personly my connection is pretty good. I have also reduced the # of programs that run in the background on my computer, to keep my processor up to speed as well.
