Better Bombardment

First off, I have no idea how to mod, but I just would like to see this mod made

It would look really awsome if the capital ships would turn and shoot lasers out the side of their ship to bombard a planet like in star wars.

I don't even know how hard that would be to do but...

nah i like the classic style - bomb them with good ol' cheap nukes :LOL:
though radiation effects could last longer like 3000 seconds.

Yeah radiation is kinda lame. Who the hell worries about repopulating that fast?

On a tiny game, radiation could be crippling, but on a large game it means nothing, absolutely nothing.

Vasari use Beams, which is wierd since Advent are obviously the Beam Weaponry Masters. It looks like they ran out of time to think of a 3rd variant of bombardement.

From the modding perspective, bombardment is separate from normal ship weapons, and there's no way to specify which hardpoint the ship uses for it in the entity file. My guess is the ship mesh has a bone that's used for the bombardment weapons (I don't do graphics, so someone who looked at that stuff should pitch in here), and there's no way to tell a ship to use anything else by changing the entity files.

Ya know... If all ships in Sins use have onboard antimatter generators and use it to power thier systems... Why does the TEC use old fasioned Nukes on planets? Why not just use Antimatter bombs? More boom.... And it's close at hand...

I agree. I would like to see an alternate form of bombardment for the advent (esp since they are my fav). Maybe have the advent use beams, then have the Vasari send in dropships...to fit thier "subjagation" theme.

Heh... I was looking around the files and trying to learn what does what. I made this quick little screwball test. It's not a serious effort... just... for fun.

TEC are the Autocannon masters in space battles, though they have experimented and achieved results with Missiles as well. Lasers are their because they're cheap and simple, if not very strong. They use nukes for planetary bombardment because they're cheap and they get the job done, which is all they want. Antimatter isn't all that common in our space-time continuum, so whatever they can generate/find is required for their ship systems.

The Vasari use their Phase Missiles as their standard damage dealing hack with anti-shield research only taking place after arriving in human territory. Pulse Guns are a cheap, light, and rather weak form of defensive weaponry. The Pulse Beams though seem to be an evolution of Pulse Guns with nano-scale shots effectively forming a stream(seeing their evolution from Pulse Guns on the Vasari tech tree), so they're in no way related to Advent energy beams. Why they prefer these complicated nanite-beam things for planetary bombardment is known only to the aliens themselves. It's sad Pulse Beams are used only on capital ships, because they get a big 35% damage bonus from research.

The Advent are of course beam weapon masters. They decided to take laser tech farther than the Traders and even invented plasma/ion beam weapons which they refined and refined and refined. Strangely, they use Mass Drivers, of all things, as their planetary bombardment weapons, which defies logic. I guess that their precision-hungry beams and lasers would not survive through an atmosphere with enough energy to do much harm, so they used mass drivers to completely reverse this problem.

I always thought there should be more ground battle influence. With the way games work now, its rarely that planets are anything more then money makers.

Advent are not just beam masters. They also use Droids. I think they should send swarms of droids to the planet to rain havoc and murder the populace!
