Fix focus fire, please

Combat in this game is a chore.  Nevermind the huge amassing the AI does at the borders with that one giant fleet of doom, but trying to break the siege?  The AI focuses fire on each and every capital ship, one by one, making them incredibly fragile and rendering the levelling up part of combat nonexistent unless a lot of micro is used.  But my own ships don't similarly focus fire, so if I jump in with a superior force the AI chews up my ships and takes minimal losses on his own end.  The only way to break to siege is jump in with a hard to killcap ship (Kol) and focus fire on his ships, then jump out when the capship gets too damaged to go to a repair.  And do this multiple times.  It's very mindnumbing.

This seems to be a problem on your end. I never have that problem, even on hard mode. Infact, the comp never focus fires on me.

Are you forming your ships into fleets?

MICRO is needed. You can't just build x number of ships then rushing from planet to planet. Capships are NOT GODSHIPS, just a bigger class of warships.
Use fleets, instead of individual ships. Fleets are engages one target. Support ships are very good, to keeps your ships alive.
The TEC is not a warrior race, the are TRADERS... so they ships are less powerful. The only real cap sized warship in the TEC navy is the KOL class BB. Build Dunovs and Akkans to support the warships. The Dunov shield emitter is a very good ability. The Akkan grants enhanched accuracy. The Sova can deploy bombers that can be used against hardened targets, such as capships. Using Cielo's and Hoshiko's to repair and support.
Also frigs are always useful.

yeah, wow, I don't find the same difficulty at all.. just a tiny bit of micro will allow you to easily kill larger fleets, even against hard AI.

Well, right now, with the current patch, you have to micromanage quite a bit if you want your fleet to fight as well as it can.

i must have gotten a different game than everybody.

the main complaints ive never experienced

siege frigate spam, and invulnerable. never seen it

beaten by pirates. never happened

ive won my fair share of battles vs all kinds of ai that had bigger fleets with all cap ship abilities on auto and no micro.

ive tried all the difficulty levels vs numerous combos of opponents and map size. playing for at least 3 hours each.

ive never witnessed any of this

no i haven't won more than half the time but the ai seem pretty competent in my version. both the unit and the opponent ai.

What I recently got annoyed by are the Advent, their "marble" and the impossibility to effectively direct your fleet when you can't see what ship is where... Meanwhile, he's popping your support cruisers like they glow in the dark.

Combat in this game is certainly a lot easier than traditional RTS... I'm getting used to the fact it's not -required- of me to micro manage to be able to defeat a larger force. The most I do anymore in my 'giant random' game is queue up the fleet to attack the cap ships first, then let them go at it. I've got 3 main fleets with 5/6 cap ships each(I recently decided to create a 4th 'ohcrap' fleet, for when somebody decides to attack my home system, stealing some units from my 3 main ones) and supporting cruisers/frigates, and often all 3 of them are engaged in battles with 3 different factions. This game has made it, to me, exceptionally easy to manage this many units. I couldn't imagine trying to do anything of this scale in any other RT game I've played.

Play larger maps and at the end of the game check the fleet chart for siege frigates. The AI is normally 8x mine.
