Modss I would like to see

Lexx

After playing just one multistar map of sins i thought about some of the mods i would like to see and being a science fiction fan i thought a " The Last Starfigter" mod would be really cool , this would involve a new ship and of course the DEATHBLOOSOM function .

For those that havent seen the film please have a look at it as there another mod that could be done that makes it very interesting , which is a capital ship controlls all the light fighers and organizes them into groups . Which can be destoryed by the enemy on a hardpoint on the capital ship , but you have to first get throught the fighers .

Also a Lexx starship would be interesting were you could go to the enemys stars system and blow up his planets , the lexx could eat the astroid field planets to refuel and maybe take out a gas giant on the way as target pratice , or even a terraforming ship the turns gas giants into habital planets .

Just some thoughts .

whats everyone think ? :)

None of this is possible and there already are enough mods based on other IPs.

If you want to make it, go ahead though. Remember: everyone has ideas, maybe 10% of them have talent in scripting or modeling.

He does bring up a interesting idea however, although I think unintentionally. The idea of a race that takes over a planet, absorbs it/takes all the materials to rebuild its fleet, and then has to move on (because they cant sustain their resources off of the normal crystal/metal.) Wasn't this the idea behind the Independance Day aliens? I'm not sure. I'm developing my own IP and I think this could be a good race to throw in there if its doable.

Whats so HALOOOOOOO about it? Halo is by far a pretty general game. I can't think of any part of it that is original. They just took many ideas that are popular is science fiction. For example ringsworlds and "The Flood."

Yeah...I love how they said, and I quote

"For the last three years, we've worked incessantly to bring you the best Halo mod that we could. There have been a lot of ups and downs, but somehow Halogen has always managed to come out kicking. The problem with using copyrighted intellectual property as a base for a fan project is that you're very susceptible to legal action. We always figured that since Halogen was such a different take on the Halo franchise, we might manage to make it without incident. That changed today.

Hours ago, we finally recieved the words we've been dreading since the mod started to get noticed. Microsoft has decided that we are infringing on the intellectual property of Bungie Studios and has asked us to stop development on Halogen"

Thats why you ALWAYS ask permission first to use a IP. Its only fair to them and to your modelers. I blame their mod leader, not mMicrosoft, for letting themselves get shut down. He should have asked first before wasting his teams time. Trust me, if you pester them enough they will eventually respond.

Even if the Halogen team asked permission to Bungie they would have got shut down by MS (rather than the other way around, which is how it happened).

I said ask Microsoft, not bungie, because Microsoft owns the IP. If Bungie does not own the IP then they have no right to tell halogen not to use the IP. HOWEVER at that time bungie was part of Microsoft..so its the same legal department. Right now I think Microsoft still owns it don't they? I'm not sure if Bungie was allowed to take it with them when they left Microsoft.

They emailed MS and never got a response.

wow this thread is getting off topic..

Thats why you pester them until they give you one. I'm the lead level designer for a Crysis mod, Mechwarrior: Living Legends. It took us six months to get written permission from Microsoft to use the Mechwarrior IP (yes, microsoft owns the rights to Mechwarrior/battletech in the gaming realm.) My point in all this is yes it took six months, but thats better then three years wasted. And in that it is possible to get a response from even the giant that is Microsoft (though you may have to explain what a Mod is several times.)

Alternatively, you can opt to remember that everyone has to start from square one and we're all more than capable of learning....

try they were using models and sounds from halo, putting them in command and conquer, and claiming that they were there own

thats a several million pound lawsuit right there. halogen got it easy.

i have read, ive had to look into this alot, im part of the halo homefront mod, so weve had to make sure exactly why they were shut down

we found out that they used sounds and models from halo 1, so rather take models from the game, we are making everything ourselves, and giving credit to bungie/microsoft

and also halo wars, halo wars is effectively halogen, but halogen is part of command and conquer, which helps CnC, not bungie.

I've had to look into this a lot as well because I'm staff at SSP and can actually talk to the people that developed Halogen and work on Asylum: you shouldn't throw accusations of stealing models around willy-nilly without proof.

Regardless, it was the IP being used that was the problem, not any usage of original Halo materials, and the only reason you probably haven't got shut down is because you're not as high profile as they were.

Wrong, you tool. Everything we had was modeled and textured from scratch. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to compare the two. Somehow we also managed to steal Halo 2 models from before the game was even released? Yeah, that totally makes sense. Halo PC sounds were used in the internal alpha, that's it.
You haven't "read" anything other than slander by scummy mods like your own. The only reason Microsoft hasn't gone after Homefront too is because no one cares about it. It has zero fanbase.

Gas giants cant become habitable planets. They are extremely different from normal planets because they almost completely are made up of, guess what... GAS!

Yes but thats the point what are gas giants but staging areas for ships , why not turn gas giants into a habital planet , After the correct reseach has been conducted , just like volcanic and ice planets , it could be a huge weapons platform using the gas as fuel .

I dont thik you would have to terraform a gas giant (not that you could..) You could build large orbital cities and as fabio stated use the gas giant for fuel. Even the upper atmosphere of gas giants provide a abundance of different gases that could be used.

Ok, fine. Since you don't want to play into the whole idea of sufficient technology in a scifi world that can do whatever the writer wants...then how about something a bit more fathomable...

The act of "colonizing" the world results in orbital mining installations. Then, what kind of stuff do you want the planet to do? The act of terraforming, not sure how we would do that. As many options as we have to change the game...we are limited.

Hey guys!

I'm currently learning digital entertainment and game design. I am interested in creating a mod or some ships to import into galciv or sins. I really want to do it with sins. My ???s are.... If I create a ship model in 3ds Max and texture it how do I get it to show up in the game. What steps will I need to go through. I have seen some good mods for galciv, the star trek one comes to mind where people modeled alot of the ST ships and inserted them into galciv. This is what I want to do as well but I would like to model some REF and Zentraidi ships. Robotech is my passion and I'm willing to bet alot of people here are not even familiar with it. The ships were awesome though. I was told by the people at the forums there that it would probably be okay to model the ships and such as long as I don't make any money from it.

and who are you to judge how popular our mod is.

and dont call me a tool, like i said, i was told by 3 people (including one of your own team) that it was because you 'stole' those sounds. Also, halo wars influenced it alot, and since no proper canon space RTS can be made without making MASSIVE balancing comprimises, i say its safe to make a halo mod in space.

I'd just like to straighten this out.

I'm the guy in charge from HHF, at the time, Jebus wasn't a member of the team and so was unable to actually say that stuff officially. I only just came accross this on a google search..

We never looked into the reason Halogen was closed down very closely due to the varying stories, the "proper" team (Not jebus) assumed it was due to Halowars in some way and didn't delve any further as we didn't really care too much.

We certainly didn't spread "slander" about your mod in any way, and our fan base is much larger than zero.

I'm sorry if Jebus hit a sore spot, but like i said, at the time he wasn't officially repsenting our mod and was making unofficial assumptions.
