No available capital crew ?

I tried to create a capital ship. I got the error message "No available capital crew".

What does this mean. What do I have to do to fix the problem and create more capital ships.

You need to "research" additional crews under logistics.

In the fleet logistics sections, theres two kinds of fleet upgrades. The top one is capital ships, and generally costs more, but lets you build more ships. Your first few upgrades only give you one per upgrade, but later ones give you 3 per upgrade.

The lower one is fleet cap, which is used for regular ships and the supply they take up. Note that capital ships also take up supply.

Also remember that once you have enabled the research in the que it will allow you to que up cap ships even though they wont start building until research on your cap crew is complete.

This confused me at 1st. I would try to build cap ships and get the "no available capital crew message," so i'd click on the research and que up my ships for building. I'd wander off to somewhere else in the empire and come back to the shipyard only to find my ships weren't built. After exclaiming "WTF?!!?" and blaming the game i realised i had a whole tree of research in front of my crew research.

So if you want to expedite the building of your fleets make sure to keep an eye on your research ques. Never want them empty, but at the same time if you que too far ahead your priorities might change.
