Vista 64 Issues AFTER SERVICE PACK 1

Okay I downloaded and updated to Vista 64 service pack 1 and now I am having serious issues.  First my system specs.

Quad Core Q6600

2 x 8800 GTX

4 Gigs Corsair 8500

All video, graphics, Bios, chipset drivers are recent as of Feb. 21, 2008.

First off when I click the launcher shortcut the update game and change serial numbers option is completely gone from the launcher.  I still have "Play the game" at the top and the "Manual" at the bottoms still visible but the update and serial options are just gone.  Also if I click play the game from the launcher it doesnt do anything.  So I started the game from the direct .exe file.  After I launch the game and try and load one of my saved games it crashes.  Not only crashes but my monitor turns black and I am forced to do a hard reboot via the power button.  Anyone else facing these problems after updating to SP1?

Microsoft just removed SP1 from auto updating, so it might have something to do with whatever problem they found that they deemed important enough to stop people from getting it. You might try uninstalling the service pack from your computer and see if that returns it to normal.

You may just need to re-install the game.

I am running Vista 64, but have not install the SP yet.

I didnt think the Vista SP was officially available until next month?

Vista SP1 isn't supposed to be released until mid-March. They just pulled one patch from Windows update that's supposed to be a prereq to SP1 because of horrible compatability issues.

Wherever you're getting SP1 from I would surmise that this is what happens with a pre-release version. I would say wait for the official release and try again.

BTW I run Vista 64 and have seen no problems at all with the game. A black screen forcing a hard reboot sounds like an issue with monitor refresh rates or resolutions. I would say update/reinstall your video card drivers.

We would recommend not using the launcher gadget if it's acting up.

We've been testing SP1 internally and it's been okay so far with Sins. It sounds like something may be wrong with your Vista install (could be related to the issues reported today with SP1).

Fwiw,

I've got Vista SP1 (Build 6001) installed on my Q6600, 4GB DDR2 RAM, & HD2600XT x2 Crossfire system. I haven't experienced any problems w/ Vista itself or Sins.

I have been experiencing the same issue. It's not SP1 however. It's your GFX drivers. Namely the new 174.16 driver set. They're highly unstable in Sins and will cause your computer to hardlock.

EDIT: SP1 for Vista has been released btw, it's just not available to all users yet. It can be downloaded from Windows Update with a slight registry modification for example.
