Running Sins on a Laptop

It ran fine on my laptop. Well, aside from Vista problems :/

I've got a really really basic lappy, like barely 512mb of ram, and a 1.79ghz processor and it runs fine.

My system specs are not the problem. I've got a Core 2 Duo T7500, 2.2GHz, 800Mhz FSB, 4M L2 Cache w/ 3 gigs ram and an 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. No, the problem may be this: the Tech FAQ in Tech section says specifically:

" I try to start Sins but I get an "Audio Engine Failed To Initialize" error.

This is an indication that your sound card drivers are out-of-date, that you don't have a sound card, or that you don't have any speakers connected (Vista). Please try installing a valid, up-to-date sound driver for your system. A sound card is required to play the game."

If a Vista laptop cannot run the game without a sound card and speakers, then playing on a laptop is not very practical. So, if I am playing on my laptop under Vista, which has Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0, NOT an audio card, AND I do not have speakers hooked up, will it run?

I play all the time on a Vista laptop very close to that in specs. You will likely not have a problem.

Is this hypothetical or are you having actual problems?

You have absolutely nothing to worry about. I play on a 3 year old Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 2 laptop. It's equipped with a Pentium-M 760 2.0 GHz, 2 GB RAM, and a 256 MB Geforce 6800 Ultra Go. I have no problems running Sins at maximum details at maximum resolution (1920x1200). However, I turn the resolution down to 1440x-something because the text gets kind of hard to read on that 1920x1200 resolution.

I run it just fine on a sony vaio 2ghz core 2 duo using an 8400m GT.. 2gb ram.. though it does get a little laggy in giant games.

I won't even tell you what I run it on. Let's just say that any machine about 4 years old has a very good chance of playing this game. Granted if you can see if on a really great machine, on a 30" screen... you might cry a little like I did. Very pretty.

thats one reason i have avoided installing it on my laptop for taking it with me to work at times

(other reason is because im not sure if the laptop will play it that well...it has nasty integrated graphics)

I'm running the game on an Alienware m-9750 laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo T7600, 2.3GHz with Geforce 8700 GT, 4 gigs of ram with onboard sound and the game is CANDY !!
That is SWEET! The game runs smoothly and with all the effects maxed out. . . quite STUNNING! Detail above & beyond the "call of duty" by the game producers! And to be able to take the laptop with me and play a "quick game" (HAH!) anywhere . . . PRICELESS !!

Laptops have built in speakers anyway. So, I don't think you have to worry about that.

kind of a pointless post since that is a rather expensive high end laptop....most laptop questions come from lower-end cheaper ones....ones that dont cost over $1000 to purchase

In this context 'sound card' doesn't mean a physical card, just some device capable of playing back sound. So your integrated HD audio is fine, no problem. And your laptop will have speakers (or a speaker) built in.

THIS is the answer I was looking for. The way the FAQ was written it sounded like I needed a third party audio card (Soundblaster, etc.) and stand-alone speakers to get the game to run under Vista. This sounded odd to me, since most laptops come equipped with integrated sound and cheezy, built-in speakers. Hence my question.

Basically, if you get that error your sound "card" drivers are out of date, and you need to update them.

Running it on a Macbook Pro 17in HD, Intel Core 2 Duo , 2.6GHz, 800Mhz FSB, 4M L2 Cache w/ 4 gigs ram and an 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT. Intel High Def Audio.

Running Windows Home XP SP2

The only problem I have is that the game will not start in full screen I have to Tab out and back to get it to load. . . Think its the sound drivers, Updated them no joy
Still have to tab out and back to get SoSE to load. .

Have no problem running it at max after that.

Any Ideas?
