What I wish this game had (Warning: Knitpicker here)

Now don't get me wrong, this game is great. The best 4x I've ever played. That being said:

Remember the freakin' sweet animations Homeworld and Homeworld 2 had? The construction process, docking process, and even the resource harvester all had their own animations. The ships would actually land inside or on different objects.

Sins seemed to have just left this out (for simplicity's sake, I'm sure) and it's the only thing that pulls me out of the deep experience that is SOASE. For example when trade ships dock at the trade post, they just sit outside. I suppose the contents they carry are being "beamed" into the ship wirelessly.

And when the huge cap ships are being built, it looks cool as the wireframe is filled in with textures, but as soon as it's done, it's popped out in a two-frame animation. Just a bit tacky, but I have no clue the amount of work that would take to do.

Also, I'd like to see a corvette class that can board and dock ships (like Homeworld. I know, I just loved that game!). That way you can commandeer the enemies ships (not cap ships, of course).

Also I'd love more of an RPG feel with the basic units. If you've ever played Company of Heroes you'd understand where I'm coming from. Each unit (or squad) can gain levels and extra HP with experience. I'd like to have an elite set of Javelin Missle launchers that I'd had since the beginning of the game.

I know my wants and needs are opinionated and many of you may find them completely unnecessay, but I'm just the kinda guy who really gets sucked into games and the slightlest things that take me out of the experience bugs me.

Fixed. Thread over.

When Ironclad and Stardock were working on Sins, we made a conscious decision that the game would not require potential gamers to upgrade their systems. That meant we couldn't have things like moving turrets or whatever but it means that the size of the market was much larger.

Thanks for the quick reply.

That is completely understandable, too. As massive as this game is, if you had 1,000 of those minute animations occurring at once it would really take a heavy-duty rig.

I'm astonished at how well this game runs on my laptop.

Mac Book Pro
Intel 2.40 Core 2 Duo
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
2G of Ram

I can run this game on maxed out settings at 1920x1200. Looks gorgeous.

Thats how I feel. The graphics are astonishingly well optimized.

Something that is beyond rare in gaming these days. Especially coming right off of release to boot.

Give some love to the game. Expect optional graphics improvements in the future expansions.

Threads about the lack of detail compared to HW2 come up several times a day. They are immediately responded to with assertions about how modern hardware can't handle all the details that they did 5 years ago for that game.

That explains the existence of very low settings. However, it is not a viable reason as to why the very high settings push the graphics hardware less than medium settings on a typical game.

That said, I personally don't mind the graphical quality at all as I very rarely zoom in enough to actually notice.

The reason why they left those features out was because they wanted to reach as many people as they could. Myself and countless others are sick of haveing to spend a couple hundred bucks a game just so you can play them well.

Would sins have been more detailed? Yes, however I would take gameplay over graphics anyday. So what if turrets dont rotate or whatnot. They dont add anything to the gameplay. I would rather have a game that runs great on a low to mid machine than a game that requires the latest and greatest to even run.
