Yilmael, my version works for XP and Vista, it's just a .zip you extract.

maheshjr2004 is making a self-extractor that will back up your files for you, so until then, you can do it manually (like my guide says to) or wait until he finishes his build. It's really not that hard of a process to do it my way. Let me know if you have any problems! :D

just tried it on an XP environment, its a no go. Gimme an hour or so

Hey Maheshjr, go to your forum account settings and enable email so I can send you emails through there. You can send me emails through there as well.

Is creating a back up just simply copyuin the folder and storing it somewhwere safe so that I can put it back in if things go bad?
Wow here is a great way to listen to Homeworld's music without doing all of that!

Step 1: Play Homeworld.

Yep, just duplicate it, rename it something like "Sound_2".

HW and Sins are two COMPLETELY different games. I've read your posts about how you are just sick of people comparing this to HW. (found here) This isn't about dogging on Sins, it's about adding some of the most epic game music in history to an already great game.
thanks for this, i like the idea of combining the HW music with sins.

Shame, I wonder how Ironclad feels that their music really sucks. Oh well, maybe they'll give new music with the next patch/expansion...

I can't!!!! New Hard drive and broken disks. HW1 AND HW2 :(

Oh man... the game is so much more enjoyable with the sounds of HW in the background. Takes me back man... memories. Thanks

Is there a way to incoporate HW1 & HW2's music? I have both soundtracks.

Changing/adding tracks is apparently very easy.

You can add to the list, and subsitute them in soundmusic.sounddata:

First two lines:

TXT
numMusic 74

The "74" is the number of entries. You can add new ones to the bottom of the file. Just change that number to correspond to how many you've added (eg, add 4, change it to 78).

I added new entries at the bottom, and they worked.

The other nice thing is, you can use mp3s, you just have to tell it that. You're not limited to ogg files (or the process of converting to them).

eg:

music
name "MUSIC_TEC_MISC_4"
fileName "08223.mp3"
isLooping FALSE
actionLevel 0.25
actionRange 0.2
emotionLevel 0.3
emotionRange 0.6

I haven't played around with the other variables in each listing (actionlevel/etc) yet. But, I think they're self-explanatory.

By using MP3s, and changing the music file, you don't have to worry about overwriting the original sounds. You can just drop mp3s into the sounds older in the main directory, and reference them in the SoundMusic.sounddata file (I've got mine in Uzii's mod).

It seems to work for me anyway.

Right now, I've got some BSG tracks and some from X3: The Reunion. I've only added/changed a few, I'm planning on getting more in depth with it though.

It's basically for personal use (which is why I'm explaining how it's done) since you can't distribute copyrighted material (in this caes, the BSG/X3 tracks).

But, it's seemingly *very* easy to get your own music into the game.

Just tried a wav, worked no problem.

Still testing with stuff...

hello froodo what progam did u use to open that soundmusic.sounddata file
Reply #42 Top
notepad silly me thanks Froodo .. so u can like have 30 battle tracks and the game
will recognize them by just adding them to this file only..
I *think*. I'm still testing it out. I'm just starting this, I *thought* it played a new one, but it was with similar music (and I wasn't really paying attention to it like I am now).

The game didn't freak out with changing the 74 to a 78 and adding 4 new entries at the bottom. So that's a good sign.

As far as just changing names in the SoundsMusic file, that part 100% works. So far I've tried mp3s and waves and it didn't have a problem.

I'll try to update with new info, if it comes up.

I think I'll test it with putting Slayer songs in place of the originals, and see if it plays anything else. Seems like a good test to me. (a might loud perhaps) :)

i tried changing the SoundMusic.soundata file to 79 and added 5 battle tracks at the end like instructed but i never heard new tracks any clues how to make it work froodo

music
name "MUSIC_BATTLE_15"
fileName "Battle 15.ogg"
isLooping FALSE
actionLevel 0.75
actionRange 0.35
emotionLevel 0.0
emotionRange 1.0
music
name "MUSIC_BATTLE_16"
fileName "Battle 16.ogg"
isLooping FALSE
actionLevel 0.75
actionRange 0.35
emotionLevel 0.0
emotionRange 1.0 same thing as above for tracks 17 18 19...

Homeworld Intro Cutscene

Adagio for Stings is beautiful. This is the video for the first cutscene in the original homeworld. I will never forget the day i saw this cutscene when i first played the demo. Honestly, breath-taking.

Deckard, I think there's another piece to the puzzle, the Game.MusicData file references the various trouble and battle themes. I think if you add to that, as well as the SoundMusic file, it *might* work.

There's also some music/theme stuff in each Player[race].entity file.

I'm going to PM a mod to have these posts split from this thread (I don't want to derail it anymore than I have). Maybe even get a dev's input on how the music/sound structure works with all the files.

I'm going to try a few things when I get home from work, didn't have the chance last night.

For all you Adagio for Strings fans... There is a whole CD of Barber's Adagio in many different orchestrations available. I highly recommend it. On the CD is a vocal recording of the Choir of Trinity College at Cambridge, which sounds very much like the famous Homeworld version.

I think that Homeworld music track no. 7 "imperial battle music" should be a battle track not "quiet" track - it was a battle music in HW1.

THANKS! You just saved me a whole bunch of trouble renaming and converting my homeworld soundtracks to sins!! :D
