Shield Mitigation and Base Armor

how does this work?

In the ships files there is BaseArmorPoints and MaxMitigation. Can someone please help me by explaining how this works, aka damage calculations, as I want to mod the hull and weapon damage and don't want to throw everything out.

Secondly, how does the armorType affect the damage? I noticed it's light, medium or heavy...but not a value?

Each damage type has a bonus/penalty against various armor types. Check this thread for details:

Yes, I would also like to know what in the world shield mitigation means. Thank you.

Shield mitigation takes the mitigation % off the top of any incoming damage. It rises as the ship takes damage; focus firing on a ship will cause it to rise quickly and stay at max. If a ship is taking little/no damage, its mitigation will fall to the minimum.

Thanks! That was helpful! What about the MaxMitigation and BaseArmorPoints?

MaxMitigation is how high up it can go (the values are percentages with 1.0 being 100%). BaseArmorPoints is how much armor the ship starts with ;)

What he said - and remember that mitigation applies whether the ship has any shields left or not (the term 'shield mitigation' seems a little misleading - I'm not sure why it's not just referred to as 'mitigation').

As far as I know, the devs have not confirmed how Armour actually works, although there are theories based on some info from the game files.

Originally, it only applied while shields were up. The first clue anyone had that this had changed was when we got the manual.

I'm fairly sure each point of armour increases effective hp by 5%, but it's non-commulative, ie. 2 armour wouldn't increase hp by 10%, it would do it by 5% + 5%*95% = 9.75%

I'm partly guessing this from the gameplay.constants "HullPointPercentageIncreasePerArmorPoint 0.05", and partly because that's how it works in warcraft 3 and this game seems to have borrowed quite a lot from warcraft 3 :p
