Massive System Wide Carrier FIghts

How Cool would it be to make a mod where there were Fighters as the main Force with very few Capital ships and few cruisers.  I cant w8 for the forge tools so i can get started on it.  And hopefully there will be a way to link scenarios so i can make a mini campaign with story

Eh. Im pretty sures omeone is working on a mod for a more carrier based game style. You could always tweak the races and cheapen/weaken carriers some and then just apply skins. SDF could have zero weapons and one special ability to fire its 'main cannon' for instance and so forth. I myself haven't yet looked into modding SOASE so I can't say more than that but from what I've read its quite easy to increase fighter/bomber numbers in a squadron and the amount of squadrons on said carriers...If anything I'd be more worried about finding a good artist who can make nice skins to represent Robotech.

Well, the SDF might be one ship, but the Zentraedi had thousands of MASSIVE battleships. All with enormous beam weapons, missiles and turrets. Plus smaller ships, fighters and robot vehicles.

The good guys, well, they had protoculture. :D

If you guys do decide to make a Robotech mod, a great series, and need a place to host the mod try sgnonline.com.

Anyway I could totally see such a game in Sins of a Solar Empire. I mean the factions could be:
*Robotech Expeditionary Force | United Earth Expeditionary Force
*Zentraedi Imperial Forces
*Robotech Masters Mercantile Empire
*Invid Hives
*Haydonites

The final one would be difficult as we only saw them in the new movie Shadow Chronicles and its sequel is going to be out in 2009 so its a while off so there are very few designs for them and if they are created, well new stuff would need to be made for them.

I so hope this mod is created....

So far i started working on some of the crafts got all the ships data and weapons already so its not that difficult. Dont know bought the Haydonites though since so few info on them exist but the universe is so rift with cultures could even create one from scratch by matching a few of them together.

There is only one major issue. You don't know if the Sins are supporting animations on models ? Robotech or Macross will have zero value without varytech.

Agreed with Loup. I myself am not a great graphical person but coding and such im good with. I figure the SW/ST/BSG mods have enough coders/graphic workers already hence why I haven't volunteered for those or been too vocal on the boards. Robotech though is a personal favorite and if one could confirm animating models i'd be happy to jump onboard and help mod.

We're trying to emphasize fighter screens (15-30 squadrons for some of the largest caps) with Dawn of Victory, but there's probably more emphasis on frigates and such than you're asking for.

There's not going to be any turret animations, I assure you of that. At least not until an expansion pack or sequel. There's just no code-base for it, we'd see it in the game already if there was.

Note, though, that you can do animated textures by using the particle files. You'll notice that it's done in a few ships like the pirate ships with the blinking rear lights.

But no moving meshes. Just the way it is :/
