Help with GF and player starting position

Hi all,

As we already know, there is no point in trying to edit existing galaxy files for singles player games because Sins randomizes who goes into the playerx positions...

What I want to do is use one of the existing multi-star maps and then use GF to edit it making a solo map with 2 AI players; each of the three players starting in different star systems; and extra resources and credits for my player.

Can someone please help with the steps I would need to do this?  I don't expect you to write a ten-page response with everything detailed to the n-th degree, but a concise and complete list of steps in point form would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

-Open up GF.
-Open the map you want to edit.
-At the top go to Edit > Players.
-Make sure there are NewPlayer0 (You), NewPlayer1 (AI 1), and NewPlayer2 (AI 2).
You can add/delete players depending on the map you are modifying.
-Click on NewPlayer0 and change the TeamIndex Variable from -1 to 0.
-Click on NewPlayer1 & NewPlayer 2 and change their TeamIndex to 1.
-Click again on the 3 NewPlayers and set whatever resources you wish. Remember
NewPlayer0 will be You.
-Now in the actual map area of GF, find one of the homeworlds (looks like Earth with
little yellow triangles on each side. Click on it.
-Set the owner to whomever you wish. Remember NewPlayer0 is you.
-Repeat this process for each starsystem. Assigning each of the 2 AI players a
homeworld.
-Make sure there is only ONE homeworld given to each player (Only one planet has
IsHomeWorld set to TRUE owned per player)
-Save the map (as a diffreent name since you dont want to erase the original)
-Load in Sins

Now as long as you select YOUR TEAM as Team 1 and the 2 AI's as Team 2, it SHOULD always place you on the planet you designated as being owned by NewPlayer0 and the 2 AI's randomly on the 2 planets owned by NewPlayer1 & NewPlayer2

Hope that helps. If you share which map you wish edited, I could be more specific.

Thanks very much Rogue!

I did make one small change to your instructions which seems to be causing me a problem... I didn't want both the AI players on one team against me so I set the player2 TeamIndex to 2. I followed all the other steps above and it was still randomly assigning me to one of the three home planets.

Can this still work with three teams instead of two, and if so, how?

Thanks again.

Am I the only one who figured that this guy was asking for advice about his girlfriend?

You're not the only one. Asking for help with GFs on internet forums is bad. Asking _gaming_ internet forums for GF help is worse.

(Of course, GF could of also stood for Gluten Free - for people allergic to wheat)

All I saw was "GF" and "starting positions."

Draw your own conclusions from there.

Yeah, yeah, and everyone's a commedian on the internet too  :p

So, now that I've paid for my internet faux pas... can anyone actually answer my "GalaxyForge" question???

Actually, I think you are able to do this with the in-game generator. It'll pop you out a random map, but as far as I remember it lets you specify the number of players for each star you have. So if you don't mind a random-ish map, that's an easy way :)

Yeah but you still can't control where your player spawns compared to the AI players, and therefore can't control who gets the extra resources.

I think Rogue was on to this the best but he hasn't commented further based on three teams instead of two which may be the key to controlling the randomization.

I find it very interesting to read the various threads on here debating how much modding you can or can't do in Sins... I can't even setup a standard single player game the way I want it...

If you don't want them on the same team then just don't alter their team index.

That's a bit different from modding, so not quite fair :P They did promise to work in set starting positions into the next version of Galaxy Forge, as far as I remember.
