Fighters/Bombers selecting "wrong" targets

Tweak needed for the management AI

I noticed last night when playing a rough defensive game, the Fighter/Bomber AI needs a beating.  While I was defending my planet against a few caps and a host of frigates, I noticed that whenever siege frigates entered into the picture my BOMBERS would immediately break off and go after them, while my FIGHTERS kept on plinking the cap ships.  Only after the siege frigates were destroyed would the bombers go after what should be their primary targets, the BIGGER ships.

In fact, the whole time, with frigates all over the place, the FIGHTERS would ignore them and go after the cap ships.

Judging based on damage bonuses, this is completely backwards.  Fighters should be attacking everything small first, working their way up, while bombers focus on everything large on down.  It's disturbing to watch 15 bomber squadrons fly right on by a nice juicy cap ship to go waste the next 2 minutes on a frigate.

Siege frigates get an "inflated" targeting priority in defensive situations accounts for part of what your seeing.

What would be really nice would be the ability to select a fleet and set a priority list for the fighters and the bombers which they will work through. Targeting support cruisers for example, and/or decide if you want them to ignore siege frigates, go all out for caps, stuff like that.

As it is actually fighters are better against seige frigets then bombers are. Seige frigets are lightly armored, and fighters are good against lightly armored things.

So he does have a point. The bombers should still attack the caps and the fighters should break away for the seige frigets. Also it seems the AI doesnt relise that a unit is almost dead and still targets it sometimes. I have had bombers rush all the way across the map just to reach the reckage that was the ship my capships just pumled.

I agree - I tend to set targets for my strike craft manually because of this, so it would be nice if their priorities were a little more sensible.

That's the problem, why didn't the fighters go after the siege! I already made a thread about this before. It was stated that fighters used to target siege before, but people complained they didn't target other fighters :/ Still I build fighters in my hangers to defend from siege, I am angry when they do not do what I tell em.
