2nd ‘Campaignesque’ sins map released!!

Comprising of over 230 planets and 25 odd stars (highlighted region), key planets in the systems located in each of the three constellations Puppis, Canis Major and Columiba, together form the the 'backbones' for profitable economic structures; triggering expansionist wars amongst the occupiers of Vela, Crux and Centarus.

Where as much profit is to be made within each constellation, factions have yet to find a way to link all three and reap the rewards of trade between constellations.

Again, this is another early release intended to gather further feedback. In contrast to the first in the series of these 'campaignesque' maps, with just over half the planets of the first this map performs a lot better. Again a further major difference is that rather than wormholes forming the outline of each constellation, in this map phase lanes perform this function.

I found the most enjoyment from this map is to be gained when set to normal game and research speeds.

Stay tuned for further maps in this series
(i.e. maps for this entire horizon of constellations and how they work together to form a campaign system) !!

:| Hardcore!

I'd love to play a map like this, but the fleet cap starts to be a real constraint on a 100 planet map. On a map this size I would think that things would become really tough once you take over 40% or so of the map.

play it with some of the mods which remove the limit. :)

This is a great map to play on, especialy with Distant Stars or the Mars mod. Only thing I have noticed on this one is I seemed to have started in a system that eventualy is cut off from all the others. Try as I might, I can't find a way out lol. I've surrendered and scouted around a few times.

Love the feel of the map tho.. awesome work :D

Hi....just checked the map, and I don't see any disconnected systems. Columba serves as the bridge between the other systems BTW.

what i like to do is create 40-100 scouts if i can afford it early on in the game to scout the map then create a strategy of how i'm going to expand from there

The third map in the series should be released soon. It comprises of mainly the constellation of Hydra. As soon as new mapping tools are released that actually allow u to specify where players start, all maps will be updated and the online campaign put forwards.

awolfhk, the map is available for download via the the link provided in the OP. To install, extract the zip and place the map file (.galaxy) in the directory ...\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy and the other file in the ...Sins of a Solar Empire\Textures directory. In order to get the maps to show up and be playable in 1.03, open the map file and change the version number to '1'. The map will then show up in the map list for single and multi player under the 'large scenarios' tab.

Hope this helps!

I'd like to try this and your larger map, but when I start the game in either I'm automatically defeated...anything I could try?

EDIT: nm, it was the unit caps mod that was doing it...good thing I backed up the gameinfo folder prior to messing with mods.

I get a minidump error when its tryin to load the map  :SNIFF!:

martaq, do you have any other mods installed? Have u opened the map with a text editor and changed the version number to 1?
Iv changed the version number to 1. Its probly the mod im running

Minidump occurs with all maps larger then 60 KB and it doesn't seem your map is ready for 1.03 as if i change to 1 the map won't show up ingame.

skukkuk, I and others don't have any problems running this map with 1.03. When you open the map via a text editor to make the alteration, make sure you just click 'save' rather than 'save as'. The latter will save it as a .text file rather than as .galaxy. Again mods you have installed may be preventing you from playing this map.

Thx the notice, Fandangdo. Lateley i found the missmatch...i tried the map in the custom map folder to not have to start game for every maptest and got minidump, while in the Galaxy folder of the game files it now worked after changing from 0 to 1.

Btw, currently trying your map with 1.03 and Uzii's SinsPlusMod, all worked fine for me.
Impressing map...catched me now arround 3 hours where i only planed a testing round ;)
Looking forward to find out all those little goodies inside...

Thats good to read Skukkuk. However, be warned that due to the way the ai is set, it will take them a while to colonise beyond their systems....

Unheardninja, hmmmm I have not experienced this problem since a beta version of this map. This issue was down to my incorrectly specifying and setting up player starting planets i.e. I didn't set up enough.

Please note that it is an 8 player map so specifying any more slots than that would result in the error u r experiencing, though only rarely as it randomly assigns u a starting position.

Have you tried playing the map multiple times? If so do you always get this error?

You may also want to try installing the map (as suggested) to C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire rather than path through ur local settings. If u have installed it elsewhere, just right click on the sins.exe shortcut and select find target to get the right path and navigate to the galaxy folder.

If you are still getting this error could you specify the other parameters you have set for ur game so I can try to reproduce this error and fix it?

Cheers!

I'm confused as to how to change the version number...please elaborate for a newb! Thanks!

Oh, and when can we get that third map?!
Sorry for not responding sooner. Ok so I got the map working...well sorta. Still run into the who mini dump issue that makes the game unplayable 1-2 hours into the game :( Great looking map though.
Unheardninja, a 'mini dump' is not an issue, rather it is the report of the issue that caused ur game to crash. It is advisable that u submit ur minidump files to the devs, and even make a post in the tech forums.

jfrutchey, open the galaxy file with a word editor and find the line that reads 'version' and change the value to '1'. That line is close to the top so is easy to find. Once the change is made select save. Remember, DO NOT SELECT 'SAVE AS'

Both maps going good, I'm presently using your 2nd map with 7 deadly sins mod. My concern is the amount of pirate bases, explore next system, pirate base, seems each system has one? this planned on your map?

awolf
awolfhk, yes that many pirate bases is an intended feature. However, I must make clear that these maps were designed as multiplayer online maps and not intended for primarily single player-->the ai is just not good enough to be competitive on these maps.

It is just a shame that the multiplayer community is not 'mature' enough(i mean this in the sense of has not been established long enough)to play custom maps online.
