Aligning Muzzle Effects?

Short and simple version is I'd like to align a muzzle effect to the vectored weapons fire.  I have an excelent looking effect while the ship is firing straight ahead, but shooting at something off to a side is terrible, because the muzzle effects don't follow the weapon.  Looking through the .particle files, I haven't seen any affectors similar to this, or at least haven't been able to acheive it myself.

Is this even possible?
Any clues as to how?

Well, even if it is possible, it's still gonna look silly. Without turreted weapons, no matter what it will look odd. Currently it looks odd because it fires straight, yet the projectile goes off in some odd direction. If the fire affect was in some random direction same as the projectile, it'd still look odd because the gun is facing forward, yet shooting at an angle. To be honest, just slap on the affect and don't worry about what direction it's facing.

That actually refers to the default behavior of ships in a fleet to tend to focus fire on a single target; disabling it seems to have each individual ship in a fleet try to engage the ship type it's best against.
