[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

A mod that adds, not alters.

Some of you may have noticed I haven't been around as much as usual, and it is with some regret that I won't be continuing this mod as a stand alone any more. I have many reasons, but it is mainly my short attention span which has brought this on. I have done my best to produce a top quality mod, and to help out as many people as humanly possible. I was here at the very dawn of modding this game, and I would like to think my input has helped progress slightly. I will check the forums occasionally and offer my help where I can. If you have a specific modding problem, give me a PM and I'll try and help you the best I can.

I will be working with DANMAN, who is producing a 'Super Mod' which includes Sins Plus, Bailknights Graphics, Sins Enhanced, and his own team's work. I will continue to give support for Sins Plus, and I will help out others where I can, but no further work will be done on this mod. Please check DANMAN's mod:

7 Deadly Sins
NO SCREENSHOT/LOG = NO RESPONSE
You can find how to get the Log at the bottom of this First Post. To upload a Screenshot, use Imageshack and copy the 'Direct Link To Image' address your are given, and paste it here. Take as many screenshots as you think is necessary, or of any little thing you might think will help. For those of you without common sense, this means if you aren't sure you put it in the right place, take screenshots of where you put it, with the address bar visible. If its a problem in-game, take the screenshot in-game, showing the problem.

For a Multiplayer version of Sins Plus merged with a BailKnights Graphical Mod, see Adama Repack

As always I am open to suggestions, constructive criticism, and any new planets, bonuses, or little extras you'd like to see in the game.

Ship Graveyard
Random ships will be in these areas, dead in space. They can be captured by the Colony Frigates of all the Races.

4 New Research Subjects

Improved Tunneling (Level 4)
Widespread tunneling with improved equipment increases the population on Barren and Urban planets, as well as Asteroids. (Barren, Urban, and Asteroid population max increase)
Level 1: 10%
Level 2: 20%

Crew Derelict Ship (Level 5)
Allows Colony Frigates to capture derelict vessels found in ship graveyards.

Gas Giant Colonisation (Level 6)
Allows colonisation of Gas Giants.

Improved Anti-Grav (Level 7)
Allows larger colony platforms above Gas Giants due to improved Anti-Grav technology.
(Gas Giant population max increase)
Level 1: 25%
Level 2: 50%

66 New Planetary Bonuses
If you think I am listing them, you are gravely mistaken. ;)

However, in order to enjoy the wider range of Bonuses, I recommend changing the value of the 'planetBonusDensity' on the map you plan to play on. This can be found on the 8th line down of all the .galaxy files by opening them with Notepad, or something similar. These can be found in your main Sins directory at:
C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

or to find custom made maps at:
C:\Documents and Settings\**YOUR_USERNAME**\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

The default value is 0.400000, this means that 40% of Planets will have a Bonus. By changing this to 70%
(0.700000) or more you should notice Bonuses becoming more frequent. Enjoy!

If anyone wants to design a planet texture for either a new planet, or an existing one, please do, and PM me a preview and a link to the file. You will be given full credit if I use it. I recommend copying one of the existing planet textures in the Textures folder, and editing that. Don't forget, the light(_cl) and dark(_da) side both need altering. Good luck.

How to Enable the Debug Logs
Go to where you Mods folder is, but don't open it. There will be other folders, most for Saves, but one for Screenshots, and another called Setting. Open that, then open the file inside named: user.SETTING (open with Notepad). Now search for the line: LogOutput FALSE, and change it to TRUE. When it crashes next, go back to the folder with Saves, Mods, Screenshots, etc, and there should be a new folder called Debug. The log will be in there.

Not yet. Believe you me, I'm jumping around in circles waiting for 1.2 too ;)
hes being a big tease showing off the new planets ;P all i can say is keep up the great work cant wait too see what you do for 1.3
Reply #279 Top
hey uzii im a lil new to modding Sins but would u mind sharing what programs and tools you used to create the planet textures and the technology icons
Reply #280 Top
Great mod, uzii! I was recently trying to build my own, so as to add more variety to the planet types and textures, but I was pretty much hopelessly lost in the modding portion of the work. Then I went on the forums and found your mod. Awesome.

I do have a lot of experience making planet textures, though, so I figured I could help you out on that side of things. I'll send you a PM shortly with the ocean world textures I'm working on.
@ Chaney
Ah, no problem.

@ Aequitas
Nearly there, but I have run into some "unexpected" crashes. I'm working on them as we speak. Although, seeing as 1.03 should be out in the foreseeable future, I may hold it off, so I can release 1.2 to be compatible with it.

@ Grave
I have a few things in mind for 1.3. Not as many new planets, but probably more texture for existing ones, and a few from the 'uncolonisable' section. 1.2 is going through testing now, and is failing. So its just a question now of ironing out the bugs. I don't want another repeat of 1.0 :S

@ Lurker
Photoshop CS2. Takes a very long time to get good with it, but I've come a long way since I messed around with skins back in Rome:TW. There are plenty of tutorials online too, just Google what you need. For modding the text stuff, Notepad++, free, and very useful.

@ diablo
I got your PM and have replied. As I said, you sir, are an Artist.

Ideas for new planets-

Abandoned planets. Bonus is infrastructure upgrades 50% cheaper.

Plant planets. These planets have tons of exotic looking plants all over the surface. Bonus is 50% growth and 50% population cap.

Deep Canyon planets. Bonus is -75% damage from bombs and 100% more mines.

Windy Ocean Desert planets. Planets only have oceans, beaches and deserts. Great for surfing and hanging out at the beach. Bonus is tourism tax.

Shattered planets. Planets that have suffered a catastrophic meteor impact and have giant crater(s).

Dune planets. Planets covered entirely of sand dunes, with periodic sandworm attacks on population. Bonus is spice resource.(jk)

Tropical Swamp Planet. Swamps, rivers, rain forests, flood plains, giant water falls you can see from space.

Moons. Some planets should have various moons. Habitable and non habitable.

Dried Up Ocean Planet. Muddy looking surface with mud cracks all over.

Ocean planets with exotic colors and bonuses.

Crystal Planets. Surface is covered with huge crystals. This planet could be guarded by a huge pirate fleet. Reward is massive crystal production.

Man Made Planets. Planets surface looks like metal plates. Bonus is a gravity generator core special ability that pulls ships towards the planet for a short time.

I thought these up in about 15 minutes. If you like some of these I'll post more. My imagination could probably produce and unlimited amount of new planet types.

I like some of your ideas, but, some are too similar to the ones I have at present. I'll give a little breakdown:
- I like the Abandoned Planet, thats a good idea. I may include that somewhere along the line.
- The Swamp planet will most likely be in 1.3, it was mentioned somewhere in this vast thread, so I'll forgive you for missing it ;)
- Crystal and Metal planets have also crossed my mind, but, to make them realistic, the resources they would give would sort your empire for good. They are just too unbalancing.
- Plant planets. Mmmm.. An Organic planet has been mentioned, but at present, won't be included. Maybe in the distant future.
- Canyon, Dune, Dried Ocean planets are just too similar to Desert planets at the moment.
- Ocean and sand will be too similar to Paradise in 1.2
- Shattered, interesting, but would be like the Barren planet, that has numerous craters.
- Moons, once again, like Barren. Also, they won't be 'near' other planets, and so won't really be Moons at all.
- Ocean planets with funky colours will come under Oceanic, just different textures.

I think thats all of them. I like some of them, and if you list more, I may pick up the odd one. However, they are just too similar to the present ones.

When the forum is fixed, I will upload 1.2, it is very nearly finished. However, 1.03 for Sins will be out soon, and if it is released before the forums are fixed, I will incorporate 1.03 with 1.2, then release it.
(For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about: The 'Edit Post' is currently missing from the first post. Therefore, the first post on every thread can't be edited by the author. Very annoying I know.)

Thanks for the input Broken, I do appreciate it.

My ideas could be used just as texture ideas too.

Heres some more-

Hidden planet. Halo emitters hide a lovely paradise planet. They project the image of a random undesirable place, like a plasma storm. You can only see it if you happen to find the Halo emitter artifact.

Shielded Planet. This planet has a gigantic shield around the whole planet. Local isolationists built it to keep out invaders. It's powered by huge solar panels that can be seen on the surface. The planet starts out with people on it. Bonus is 300% planet health bonus.

Virus Planet. A virus has destroyed pretty much everything living. The surface looks like an ugly wasteland. The oceans are dark, and everything looks ravaged.

Burnt/charred planet. This planet once had forests that covered it's entire surface. Until something caused a fire. The fired burned for years and consumed nearly the entire surface. It only stopped when the fire had consumed all of the air on the planet. Now only a small patch of forest remains on this charred planet.

Molten Lava planet. non colonizable planet. Entire surface is lava.

Salt planet. White surface. Bonus = tastier fries.

Black planet. The surface of this planet does not reflect any light, or very little. The only really visible things are the glow of the cities lights.

Varying sizes for planets.

Planets with rings around them.

Two Faced planet. This planet rotates in a way that one side of it always faces the sun. One side volcanic, the other ice with desert in between.

Ok I'll stop again. Just let me know if my ideas are too wacky and I'll stop posting them :).

Most of them are far fetched, but I like the idea of the Burnt planet. I'm just off in a minute, but feel free to keep posting. Or PM a huge list if you'd like it private.

And isn't the last one there, the two-faced one off Star Wars? And your couldn't do that, the planet rotation is hard coded I believe.

You should also try your hand at texturing, if you could texture as well as you imagine, then you'd be an very helpful asset ;)

Thanks again for the input.
Holy crap dude. I'd say this thing grew legs, but the flames scream a gross understatement. Excellent work.
Well since you like the burnt planet, I have an idea for it. Make the forest look like it's still on fire. I think that would look pretty cool and unique. Can you make animated textures?

Here's one more before I log off too.

Steam/cloudy planet. Ice planet that used to orbit far from the sun. It's now very close to the sun. Entire planet is shrouded in clouds.
If you've ever seen the Chronicles of Riddick, fantastic movie, you will know that they have fascinating ideas for planets. I think you should try making a planet like Crematoria. The Planet that orbits ridiculously close to its sun and is engulfed in fire etc..

Well i think that would be awesome if possible. I could also try it if i didnt suck at it. I am intrigued by this "Animated textures" question. please do answer as soon as possible.
Its a very good question. I will try. Seeing as the Forum STILL ISN'T FIXED! And 1.03 isn't out, I've got some time to kill.

And yes, Chronicles of Riddick was an excellent film, and thats a good idea for a planet. But how would it be portrayed? Texture and Traits?

Uzii thanks for mod great look hmm does this mod comes with planetary bonuses if so how can u see bonuses ..

might have to do with their video card Uzii the DDS files you made are they black on the background??

Yes it comes with 45 new Bonuses. No you can't see them all. Primarily because I want people to be "Wow, look at that" when they discover them, and not "Oh, goodie, thats the one I wanted". Also, listing all 45 would be a pain, and then people would want the effects of each one. Then when I put in the effects, people will want the description. I'm not going to clog up my first post, or the readme with an endless list of Bonuses. Feel free to view their files, but I'd like to keep some mystery around them.

Err... what? All texture files I edited/added to are just the same as the Vanilla versions. Which problem are you referring to when you say this? The main problem(like everything ;)) was a Vista issue. It seems to handle the way files of the same name are extracted and replaced. An annoyance, but easily fixed.
odd i readed somewhere 2 people was haveing crash's with your mod but was on the last page now i cant find them anymore... :NOTSURE:...this forum is a enemy to me..

anyway i use Vista i don't have isue's with your mod

Thats good to hear.

I haven't seen any posts of crashes, since the very first few pages, back with 1.0 and 1.1 (note: Not 1.1a). This was caused by mistakes my end, but was solved in 1.1a. The other problems have been graphics related.

Thanks for the info though ;)
btw i got a new planet type idea or rater striped of from other "games"

Artrifical Planet's
this are planets what normaal not exist so they full of Metal Plating..
Bonus lots of tatical Slots -Sinds they are so HUGH the gravity is so high only a minimal amount of people can "life" on it.. also their are no Resources sinds it's build artifical

guardian of Planets
the Home of the god's (master of orion) type idea
this planet is unlike a normaal planet it's even beter then Paridise..
only 1 small probleem it's protected by the nasty's of ancients...
make a pirate fleet of pirated Capital ships like 10 of them or something of level 10.

not sure if this idea's are already mentioned
Reply #296 Top
The Artificial planet has been mentioned, and I dismissed it for the time being. The Super planet is a good idea, but I have something similar lined up for 1.3, although I need to do some playing first, see if what I want is doable. Oh, and Militia Cap ships seem to cause unpredictable crashes, although this could only be for the Carrier type, I've had issues with it, and it had to be removed.

Thanks for the ideas though, much appreciated.
Normally I would update the first post. But, something has gone wrong with the forum, as some of you may have noticed (fellow modders ;)). For the moment we cannot update the first post on threads, so this is the update for my mod. No pretty pictures here (check back a page or two), and only a minimal changelog, for these I apologise.

Sins Plus v1.2

- 4 New planets; Toxic, Paradise, Industrial, Old Naval Base.
- 11 New Planetary Bonuses

When the forum is fixed I will update the first post and give a proper breakdown of the planets, similar to the others already there. Until then, have a look in-game ;)

Link
Rapidshare.com
I know some people don't like Rapidshare, but at the moment, tough. Everyone can use it, some with better speeds and wait times than others, but it is available to everyone. No complaints about this please, I will upload to FileFront.com tomorrow afternoon(GMT).

I only had time to upload one link, and it is in 7zip format. Basically, this compresses it even more than putting it in a .zip file. You may need this to unzip the .7z file.

I will be around for a few more minutes, but then I will be offline for 16 or so hours. I don't think there is any problems or bugs, but if there are, give as much information as you can, and a screenshot if necessary.

Thanks you all for your continuing support, feedback, and encouragement. Enjoy ;)

Edit: There is a list of files that are changed in this mod. This should come in handy for merges. Also, I have just discovered a small typo on the description for the Old Naval Base ability, however, this is the game cutting off the end, rather than my grammatical error.

Nice work Uzii

I got a question though...

Is v1.2 of sins+ reverse compatible with V1.02 of sins? The reason i ask is because I'm adverse to updating my game to 1.03 until various mods are updated to fit the 1.03 standard, so for now i'll be sticking to 1.02 but would still love to put in your new planets and bonuses.
When I click enable mod for v1.2 I get a minidump and sins crashes. Do I need to install version 1.1 first, before installing 1.2?
