[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

A mod that adds, not alters.

Some of you may have noticed I haven't been around as much as usual, and it is with some regret that I won't be continuing this mod as a stand alone any more. I have many reasons, but it is mainly my short attention span which has brought this on. I have done my best to produce a top quality mod, and to help out as many people as humanly possible. I was here at the very dawn of modding this game, and I would like to think my input has helped progress slightly. I will check the forums occasionally and offer my help where I can. If you have a specific modding problem, give me a PM and I'll try and help you the best I can.

I will be working with DANMAN, who is producing a 'Super Mod' which includes Sins Plus, Bailknights Graphics, Sins Enhanced, and his own team's work. I will continue to give support for Sins Plus, and I will help out others where I can, but no further work will be done on this mod. Please check DANMAN's mod:

7 Deadly Sins
NO SCREENSHOT/LOG = NO RESPONSE
You can find how to get the Log at the bottom of this First Post. To upload a Screenshot, use Imageshack and copy the 'Direct Link To Image' address your are given, and paste it here. Take as many screenshots as you think is necessary, or of any little thing you might think will help. For those of you without common sense, this means if you aren't sure you put it in the right place, take screenshots of where you put it, with the address bar visible. If its a problem in-game, take the screenshot in-game, showing the problem.

For a Multiplayer version of Sins Plus merged with a BailKnights Graphical Mod, see Adama Repack

Additional Information
As always I am open to suggestions, constructive criticism, and any new planets, bonuses, or little extras you'd like to see in the game.

Any major or simple modders out there that would like to incorporate my work into their own mod, please, go right ahead. Just send me a PM and give me a mention in the Credits.

Any problems or comments, feel free to post, I will try to get back to you as soon as humanly possible.

Ship Graveyard
Random ships will be in these areas, dead in space. They can be captured by the Colony Frigates of all the Races.

4 New Research Subjects

Improved Tunneling (Level 4)
Widespread tunneling with improved equipment increases the population on Barren and Urban planets, as well as Asteroids. (Barren, Urban, and Asteroid population max increase)
Level 1: 10%
Level 2: 20%

Crew Derelict Ship (Level 5)
Allows Colony Frigates to capture derelict vessels found in ship graveyards.

Gas Giant Colonisation (Level 6)
Allows colonisation of Gas Giants.

Improved Anti-Grav (Level 7)
Allows larger colony platforms above Gas Giants due to improved Anti-Grav technology.
(Gas Giant population max increase)
Level 1: 25%
Level 2: 50%

66 New Planetary Bonuses
If you think I am listing them, you are gravely mistaken. ;)

However, in order to enjoy the wider range of Bonuses, I recommend changing the value of the 'planetBonusDensity' on the map you plan to play on. This can be found on the 8th line down of all the .galaxy files by opening them with Notepad, or something similar. These can be found in your main Sins directory at:
C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

or to find custom made maps at:
C:\Documents and Settings\**YOUR_USERNAME**\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

The default value is 0.400000, this means that 40% of Planets will have a Bonus. By changing this to 70%
(0.700000) or more you should notice Bonuses becoming more frequent. Enjoy!

If anyone wants to design a planet texture for either a new planet, or an existing one, please do, and PM me a preview and a link to the file. You will be given full credit if I use it. I recommend copying one of the existing planet textures in the Textures folder, and editing that. Don't forget, the light(_cl) and dark(_da) side both need altering. Good luck.

How to Enable the Debug Logs
Go to where you Mods folder is, but don't open it. There will be other folders, most for Saves, but one for Screenshots, and another called Setting. Open that, then open the file inside named: user.SETTING (open with Notepad). Now search for the line: LogOutput FALSE, and change it to TRUE. When it crashes next, go back to the folder with Saves, Mods, Screenshots, etc, and there should be a new folder called Debug. The log will be in there.

The only complaint I have is regarding the extra planetary bonuses. In particular I have a problem with the mostly negative planetary bonuses. The issue I have is that I pay money and resources for the people on the planet to suddenly realize that there is this horrifyingly high radiation count on the planet and they just now realize that there was supposed to be a couple hundred less people on the planet, but up until then it was fine. I guess what I'm asking is if it is possible for only positive bonuses to be paid to search for, but the negatives, if present, are immediately noticed on colonization.

*Too lazy to read other posts*

The only thing I don't like about this mod, is that it crashes very VERY frequently. Is it just me or am I not the only one where it crashes 9 out of 10 times?

I want to ask all of you who experience game crashes.... which video card do you have?

I have Nvidia M8600GT.

I see this situation as digging too deep and unleashing a Balrog. Since I'm not playing too seriously, I appreciate the added flavor.

Concerning the AI's crusade against ship graveyards: if you really can't fix it, they might have to be removed...

Could I please request a Zip version of this? I tried the the 7z thing and just can't figure it out.

Thanks
When you first installed the 7zip, it does not automatically connect the all compressed files types to 7zip. You need to do that manually.

Install 7zip, click the 7z file, and Windows will ask you for the program to run. Go to Program Files, go to 7-zip folder, and select '7zFM' as program to run.

You will be able to uncompress the files.

i generally use winrar and that can open it no prob.

I am still digging about this issues and there is one thing I can confirm now.

It is now a graphical issue. It is code issue.

Say, in highest detail, I actually see planets via preview mod (and the game crashes after a while.) And the game has no problem to show custom planets on the main menu as well.

I did little testing; I renamed the planet texture files to original files (like putting industrial planet textures to ice planet. So in game, I see a ice planet with industrial looks) The game loaded perfectly, and I could see these custom planets with no problems and no crashes.

I think best I can help you is that I try to disassemble your mod files. What I mean is, I try starting with very basic of your mod (simply planets only, not other researches) and adding those features until I encounter errors.

the only problem i have is the load screen bug other than that uzii's mods are superb!

love the grave yards!

Right, my patience has worn too thin and now I'm getting angry.
@ HerrHildebrand
The Radiation, and about 95% of ALL negative bonuses are discovered on Colonisation. There are 2 bonuses that I can think of that are activated after Exploration. Get your facts right first of all.

@ Blnukem
Seeing as only a tiny minority experience crashes, you have either installed it incorrectly, or it is something your end.

@ ORYLY
Thank you for the response to HerrHildebrand's point. But the Graveyard bug will be worked on in 1.4, when and if I start it. If you don't like it, either revert to 1.2b or don't play it.

@ wnmnkh
Thank you for answering the query on the 7zip program. But, as I haven't experienced these crashes you speak of, there isn't a lot I can do I'm afraid.

@ xxx_diresaint_xxx
At least someone appreciates it. Thank you.

To everyone who is having issues with 1.3
I will post the Links for 1.2b once again in the First Post. If you don't like 1.3a, or you have problems with it, use 1.2b. All this shit is really taking the fun out of Sins Plus for me. I've got nothing to work with here, NO-ONE has posted screenshots, or a Log file for any of these problems, and quite frankly, I'm getting bored of it.

I would suggest that many of the crashes follow similar patterns to general game crashes that occur and Plus is being scapegoated. The Highest -> High thing is remarkably similar to an already reported crash trigger and nothing in the logs indicates Plus is responsible.
I checked all of the textures, and it is clear that textures are not the one crashing the game.

Well, that Highest <--> High can create non-graphical issues is funny as hell. ^^; Something is wrong on the game's codes even before talking about this mod.

Well, this is what I will try if I can. I will try reconstruct the mod progressively, like....

1.) Just merely add new planets
2.) Give them abilities
3.) Add grave yard
4.) Add all of planet bonus.

I conjure it will take some time to figure out the structure of this game, and understand your mod files. :/ So you will not see my post here for a while as well.

Edit : ah, screw this. :/ I think it is all about Nvidia video card driver problem in the end. Currently their newest driver does not help this issue at all.

I am sorry for all the trouble you seem to be having with people complaining about problems. I haven't personally experienced any, just great gameplay made better by your mod.

I really hope this all doesn't get to you, i would very much like to see your mod continue, and if there is anything i can do to help that. please let me know.

Great Mod Uzzi. Played another game last night. Still loving the new planets. Adds alot of development and strategic options to the game.

For everyone, i recommend using the Seven Deadly Sins mod. Nice mod pack there (bail knights, sins, and a texture mod). The new race atlanteans are a bit unbalanced at the moment, just dont play them and pick vanilla races to play against.

Has anyone colonized a relic planet yet? I have to encounter one. What is the bonus for it?

Here is a great website hosted by NASA on space pictures. Lots and lots of pictures of moons and planets. May give some options, data, skins for planetary graphics.

Even if you dont use it, great pictures to look through :):)

@ Carbon
Thats very relieving to hear. Thank you.

@ wnmnkh
I'm sorry to hear you still can't get it working, maybe Nvidia will release a driver to fix it (:(

@ Zachery Gangrel
Thanks for your support, its always good the hear a positive comment, thanks.

@ Kreyson
I believe DANMAN has just posted a few shots of the Relic planet in action. Something to note though, what you see one shot cannot be controlled. ;)

Oh, and nice pictures. I especially like this one.

@ jfrutchey
Good to hear it.

Little bit of info on v1.4
It will be mainly centered around uncolonisable sectors. One planet has been confirmed, and multiple 'Neutral' sectors are on my list. Nebula's with some interesting effects will be the main focus, and seeing what I can do in relation to these effects is going to be my starting point. And seeing as the neutral sectors don't require any skinning, as such, I will be adding a few (number depending on what I can think of) new textures, for old planets.

Thanks for the feedback, and now positive comments ;)

Uzii and all modders, dont stop modding, you guys/gals make games so much more fun with your hard work, a very big THANKS!! for what you do. We users probably dont say that enough vs the complainers, dont get me wrong, many complaints are legit problems, so when you do get frustrated, take deep breath, remember the good you are doing for the games/gamers. Again, THANK YOU!

I'm not sure if I installed the mod incorrectly but it crashes as soon as I try to load the map I made with this in the game.

What information can I provide you that would help you fix the crash?

Screenshots. Of the mod folder, with address bar visible, and anything else around or in the mod folder. Things like that will help if you think you may have installed it wrong.

I got it to work, I did have it installed wrong. Problem was I wasn't activating the mod via the mod screen, hey nothing in the readme saying I should lol. I had elminated the master folder but the subfolders were showing up.

I have the mod working. Looks great and plays more fun that stock thats for sure.

Thanks

Thanks for this great mod, Uzii :).

No bug actually in game, just à minor graphic bug on loading screen:

Playing: 1280*1024, Radeon X1950 Pro with Omega Driver 3.8.442.

Thank you for your great work ;).

A nice cover up, but you failed to read the readme properly :D :d. Directly from the readme:
Extract the 'Sins Plus' folder into your Mods Folder for Sins of a Solar Empire, at:
C:\Documents and Settings\**YOUR_USERNAME**\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods

Having done that correctly you will be able to enable my mod in the Options menu ingame, under the Mods tab.
End of quote
A nice try :d

@ Helldog_fr
Yes, numerous people have mentioned it, but I can't seem to find the cause. I have my suspicions, and in 1.4 I hope I can fix it. The problem is, not everyone has it, and I can't seem to replicate the bug on my game. Also, this would be a nice time to say that in 1.4 the loading screen pictures will all be replaced by Sins Plus one. Either of planets, or some touched up screenshots.
Edit: Thanks for the screenshot as well. This time I knew what you meant, but it is always welcome and smiled upon. Thank you.

Thanks for your input and replies.

So I have this issue when I'm in a LAN with two other people:

WWW Link

It happens after we've been playing for about 5-10 minutes and causes a CTD.
All of us have 1.3a.
