[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

A mod that adds, not alters.

Some of you may have noticed I haven't been around as much as usual, and it is with some regret that I won't be continuing this mod as a stand alone any more. I have many reasons, but it is mainly my short attention span which has brought this on. I have done my best to produce a top quality mod, and to help out as many people as humanly possible. I was here at the very dawn of modding this game, and I would like to think my input has helped progress slightly. I will check the forums occasionally and offer my help where I can. If you have a specific modding problem, give me a PM and I'll try and help you the best I can.

I will be working with DANMAN, who is producing a 'Super Mod' which includes Sins Plus, Bailknights Graphics, Sins Enhanced, and his own team's work. I will continue to give support for Sins Plus, and I will help out others where I can, but no further work will be done on this mod. Please check DANMAN's mod:

7 Deadly Sins
NO SCREENSHOT/LOG = NO RESPONSE
You can find how to get the Log at the bottom of this First Post. To upload a Screenshot, use Imageshack and copy the 'Direct Link To Image' address your are given, and paste it here. Take as many screenshots as you think is necessary, or of any little thing you might think will help. For those of you without common sense, this means if you aren't sure you put it in the right place, take screenshots of where you put it, with the address bar visible. If its a problem in-game, take the screenshot in-game, showing the problem.

For a Multiplayer version of Sins Plus merged with a BailKnights Graphical Mod, see Adama Repack

Ship Graveyard
Random ships will be in these areas, dead in space. They can be captured by the Colony Frigates of all the Races.

4 New Research Subjects

Improved Tunneling (Level 4)
Widespread tunneling with improved equipment increases the population on Barren and Urban planets, as well as Asteroids. (Barren, Urban, and Asteroid population max increase)
Level 1: 10%
Level 2: 20%

Crew Derelict Ship (Level 5)
Allows Colony Frigates to capture derelict vessels found in ship graveyards.

Gas Giant Colonisation (Level 6)
Allows colonisation of Gas Giants.

Improved Anti-Grav (Level 7)
Allows larger colony platforms above Gas Giants due to improved Anti-Grav technology.
(Gas Giant population max increase)
Level 1: 25%
Level 2: 50%

66 New Planetary Bonuses
If you think I am listing them, you are gravely mistaken. ;)

However, in order to enjoy the wider range of Bonuses, I recommend changing the value of the 'planetBonusDensity' on the map you plan to play on. This can be found on the 8th line down of all the .galaxy files by opening them with Notepad, or something similar. These can be found in your main Sins directory at:
C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

or to find custom made maps at:
C:\Documents and Settings\**YOUR_USERNAME**\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

The default value is 0.400000, this means that 40% of Planets will have a Bonus. By changing this to 70%
(0.700000) or more you should notice Bonuses becoming more frequent. Enjoy!

If anyone wants to design a planet texture for either a new planet, or an existing one, please do, and PM me a preview and a link to the file. You will be given full credit if I use it. I recommend copying one of the existing planet textures in the Textures folder, and editing that. Don't forget, the light(_cl) and dark(_da) side both need altering. Good luck.

How to Enable the Debug Logs
Go to where you Mods folder is, but don't open it. There will be other folders, most for Saves, but one for Screenshots, and another called Setting. Open that, then open the file inside named: user.SETTING (open with Notepad). Now search for the line: LogOutput FALSE, and change it to TRUE. When it crashes next, go back to the folder with Saves, Mods, Screenshots, etc, and there should be a new folder called Debug. The log will be in there.

@ bandw2
I think one super bad bonus is enough, and by being called 'A Deadly Secret' it can be anything you like ;)

Bonuses can't be applied to your empire, or even more than one planet.

I'll PM you about Photoshop.

@ amishmonster
Thank you very much sir. This is what I wanted to hear, and may be a good place to start from when I look for a fix of the magnetised Graveyards.

Thank you both for those replies. ;)

the super good thing i was talken about was, like a plus to planet health and population, and if deadly secret was foudn on the planet, they would counter each other. and maby plus to trade and extractions rates. maby, miracle planet, as a name, lol.

EDIT- also, can you make an urban home planet. with a defualt start thing template, i hate starting with out anything.

Thats map specific, and out of the modding category.

Hi,

Your mod is great, but it crashes (minidump) in a 3-players LAN game, whereas it works well with 2 players.
It affects any of the computers in the LAN, and occurs after few seconds of play (no screenshot).
@ Mikeolespi
Strange, it looks normal. I can't get rid of most of them, and the one I can remove doesn't help crashes. When exactly does it crash? Also, I need screenshots of your mod folder, with address bar visible, so I can see if you've installed it correctly.

@ Youri Andropov
There has been multiplayer issues for a long time, and I really don't know how to solve them. You all have exactly the same 'Mod Checksum' right? Seems strange that 2 can play, but not 3.
what i mean is i found a way to hack random generator maps, and make their main planet, anything i want, and the two planets that follow it and how close or far away from you planet they can be, and if you want 1-500, and if you want all of them to be yours form the start. exept when i try your planets they start with nothing!
I think you have each type of planet possible covered. Maybey a storm planet or something, but I think these are enough planets plus the original planets. you could also add maybe an artificial deep-space station or a mine field or some other space anomalee, but these are just suggestions for if you're thinking of adding more planets. You should definitely have new Military upgrades (don't have any ideas for one). As with problems, the only problem I have does not really relate to this mod (my Nvidia display driver and sins aren't agreeing and the driver stops working from time to time), but lately I haven't been playing on-line with your mod. Keep up the good work, Uzii ;)

I installed the game and the mod properly, word for word on your read me. I can not find any "Mods" folder at the designated target location. Do I need to patch my game or do I need to do something else? I'll be adding pictures momentarily.

By the way, the pictures for this mod are orgasmical! Thats a hyperbole but you know what I'm trying to say :).

Edit:

I created the "Mods" folder; exact wording.

Proper target line?

The picture explains itself lol.

Dunno if anyone said anything, but it seems like all the graveyards have only TEC ships.

Love the Mod by the way, pretty cool. Though I did a map and got an urban planet, but it also had Ugly Population, lol.

I've noticed a few people commenting on multiplayer desync. This happened to me a few days ago. A friend and I were playing on my desktop and my laptop, I was meticulous in setting up the mod, but may have missed something I'll have to check checksums.

Well we were playing on the large single star map, we're using S+ 1.2, against one hard AI and two normal. At one point I asked for help against some pirates but he couldn't see them. He moved his ships into the middle of what was a raging battle for me and not a thing happened. We could still give each other resources but that was it. The computers weren't communicating any past that. We also don't know if it was coincidence or the cause but the crash seemed to occure when he ordered a capital ship he had just built to another planet.

I didn't save the minidumps at the time but if it happens again I'll be sure to send you the logs if you think it will help.

i combined this with bailknights mod and the galactic ui mod ive no idea how as i simply replaced some of the folders and added in new ones and ive managed to have it working perfectly!!!! i am a complete idiot when it comes to mods but even i can merge!!
@ bandw2
Err, pass. I used Vanilla templates for most of the new planets, except the Urban. Have you tried making Ice, Volcanic, and Asteroids starting positions? If so, do they work ok?

@ evolvedbullet1
You need Sins of a Solar Empire 1.03.

@ LordAlthalus
I did a backstory behind the Graveyards somewhere on this vast thread, but I'll give you a quick explanation. These areas are where the TEC left their outdated ships. It would be too expensive to disassemble them, and explosives would be a waste. So they left them dead in space and locked them up with various codes. The research effectively allows you to crack these codes and reactivate them.

@ Marcus_Aure
Weird, but this is the nail in the coffin for S+ Multiplayer. I will now declare this a Single Player only mod. Sorry to everyone who wants to play S+ MP, but it clearly doesn't agree with it. You can of course try, and even go as far as to work on a fix, but as far as my skills go, this is out of my area of expertise. Sorry.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback, and positive comments. :D
Reply #792 Top
It's sad to hear this will be a SinglePlayer only mod. My vast source of enjoyment has been from playing it with friends. My question is, even though this is now declared a SinglePlayer only mod, will i still be able to play future version of it in a multiplayer setting? Only, if there are problems no one can complain about them since its declared singleplayer only? I really hope this is the case, because it would suck to miss out on all the cool new things your going to include if i have to stay on a later version to play with friends.
Oh, by all means.
You can of course try, and even go as far as to work on a fix
End of quote

So yes, please try it MP, you may get lucky, and if you have any modding experience, have a go and try and fix it. It just means that, like you said, no one can come and complain that it doesn't work, and I will offer minimal help to people who do. If, however, someone does want to try and make a fix, I will offer my full support, and aid them as much as possible. But fixing MP issues is a lot harder than single player ones.
right, i tried ur readme instructions 2 different ways

and

neither of these made any change to my game at all
Reply #796 Top
First of all, you didn't create any of the folders right?

The bottom one is wrong, but it should basically look like that except all of them should be in the Sins Plus folder in the above screenshot, which you probably did. You also are using the latest version of Sins right? 1.03?

Edit: Oh right, what was wrong?
So I don't know how it happened, but my friend and I played a two hour game over LAN and had no issues.

I used a custom map I made in forge, designed for three players, but I did not put an AI on when we played.

No Relic planets and no random planets.

I had suspected it was somehow a combination of the AI and the Relic world, so I think this may have been it.
If I wanted to take out ship graveyards, how would I be able to do that?
Odd with all these people having problems with multiplayer.

I can say that I have had zero problems with playing this (or any other versions of S+s for that matter) online with other people except for ones related to my own stupidity and clumsiness. And the few times when the game does crash or kicks a player out is mostly due to errors with merging, installing, strict NAT's combined with host migration issues as well as forgetting to restart the game after rebooting (believe me, it helps!)

I've played with all kinds of AI, with all kinds of planets (ship graveyards and relic planets alike) and None of these create anything out of the ordinary except for the already known AI-vs-graveyard bug.

All in all this is a lovely mod, one that i can no longer do without when playing this game. It makes the game experience richer in all ways imaginable, and makes it much more exciting.

Thank you.

PS. I also managed to merge this mod successfully with bailknights graphic mod including his gameplay changes, so look out for that mod package once/if he gives the green light for redistrobution. DS.

Just a quick word before I log off for the night:
Ubel:
Strange, but the AI might find some difficulties with my mod, somewhere.

dizbmikuni:
Tell you what, I'll release a GSD file without the ship graveyards tomorrow. So for anyone who wants to leave them out, can just replace that file. (GalaxyScenarioDef file by the way ;))

SweZor:
Thats VERY promising to hear. And thanks for the compliments, makes it all worth while.

Everyone:
If you have played Multiplayer or LAN with my mod with no problems, let me know. Thank you.
