Scroll Wheel Doesn't Work.

    First off I want to apologize if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find anything when I was searching the archives.

I just bought SoaSE last weekend and I am enjoying the game, however as the title states the scroll wheel on my mouse does not work for zooming in and out forcing me to use the V and B keys which I find to be a bit cumbersome.  I have verified that the Scroll Wheel works as it affects other applications and games just fine, only Sins seems to not be able to register any inputs.

Has anyone else experienced this?  And if so what was the steps to get a solution?

If it would be helpful in diagnosing things, the mouse I have is a Kensington PilotMouse Optical Pro and I have the Kensington drivers installed in a Windows XP environment.

Wow, haven't seen this one before.  If you uninstall the Kensington drivers and just use the default Windows ones, does it work?

Yarlen,

Sorry it took me so long to respond but life got the best of me for a bit.

Anyway I first tried updating the Kensington software, and that failed to resolve the problem. However, uninstalling the Kensington mouse drivers did solve the issue after a reboot.

It seems that Sins is not compatible with the Kensington Mouseworks Software/driver package. Is there some place I need to go to submit a bug report?

This was also true of the Microsoft mouse software I installed. Only becuase it had multiple functions for the mouse wheel.

I have the problem of trying to zoom out and sometimes I end up even further zoomed in than when I started because it will zoom me out one click but then back in 2-3 clicks (ingame clicks I mean, my mouse only makes the one click sound). This is the only game or even the only application I have this problem with so I seriously doubt it's the mouse.

I am playing on a laptop and my touch pads scroll function doesn't seem to work either. Would this probably be due to the drivers used for the touch pad? This is annoying.

I have tried to play using my Logitech Marble Mouse, which doesn't come with a 'scrolling wheel' and the button assignment I create for scrolling instead (auto scroll) does not seem to get recgonized in Sins. I admit, I have not spent a lot of time trying to troubleshoot but I thought I would add my voice to the mix out there. BUT, I do have a wireless MX Revolution Logitech mouse which works fine in the Trackballs place... I usually use the trackball when I am charging the MX mouse.

I am also thinking of getting the better Trackball that Logitech makes, which HAS a scroll-wheel on it.

doesn't work with touch pads. period. i know it's annoying, but i have an easier time playing on my laptop because the vb zoom is so much smoother than the rachety mouse wheel that it obviates arrow keys for pan, which allows me to use the hotkeys much more easily than if i were to use the wheel

I have a gaming G11 Logitech keyboard and a laptop slim line keyboard. Sometimes I ust end up using the laptop slim keyboard to play games as the keys are closer together and more sensative.

Sorry it took so long, but life demanded attention.

I've submitted the bug report to Kensington and I referred them to this website for more info on the game and to obtain contact info for you the developers.

I've also saved the tracking number for the issue after I submitted it. If that will be of any use to you, feel free to ask and I'll send it your way in a PM.

Is there any reason why sins cant have a proper zoom axis? like you could assign middle button to zoom axis so when it's held in you can move the mouse forward and backward for more precise zoom control. I'd prefer that over the scroll function.

I'm using a Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra with 256MB Video Ram with Nvidia ForceWare Drivers 163.75.

The scroll wheel doesn't zoom for me on my Logitech G5 rev2 as well but it works in other games/applications. I am not using the Logitech drivers, just the default ones included with Windows XP-32 SP2. I do not have any alternate functions assigned to the scroll wheel either. I've also noticed the camera rotation sensitivity seems to be a bit crazy, I move the mouse about 1mm or so and the camera spins around multiple times.

I use [link=http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/]synergy[/link] to share my keyboard and mouse over the network between my gaming and work boxes. The Windows/gaming box is the client and the Mac/work box is the server. I could upload a directx diagnostic file if that would be helpful.

Chances are that if something else is accessing the wheel at all, even the the background, it will mess with the game. Try disabling synergy and see if I am right about this. You can also fine tune the mouse sensitivity in your Windows Control pannel.

If I disable synergy I have no mouse as its shared over the network (connected via USB to the Mac/work box which is the synergy server). I tried directly connecting the mouse to the Windows/gaming box and it works fine then but digging around the cable management in the desk to switch between the two all the time isn't a viable solution for me unfortunately.

As for the mouse sensitivity, it is normal when not rotating the camera - the moment I go to rotate its like it kicks up many notches in sensitivity. Seems to be fine when the mouse is directly connected to the Windows/gaming box.

I've never had these problems with synergy in other games before.

Not to stomp on the competition but give Multiplicity a try. 

I ran Sins on the secondary using Multiplicity and had no troubles. You can download a trial from here:

The primary box is a Macbook Pro running OS X and there is no Multiplicity released for OS X yet from what I can see there. All I can find is an old discussion of joining the beta for the ppc version on the forums.

hey i have the same problem with an HP mouse so is there drivers to install from hp to update the software or not, i run it on vista sp1, so should i use the mouse software that came with the product or just let windows be the default

Yes that would be a problem. There is a Mac version in the testing process right now in QA. It is different to say it here since I have seen it with my own eyes. Keep a look out for the update.

Adding my post to the list: My scroll wheel does not work at all.

I am running XP on a Dell with Dell (really Logitech) mouse and current drivers. Scroll wheel works fine with all other applications, including EQ2 and WoW.

I got as far as the tutorial asking to zoom, and could not do it. I read on this thread about the v and b keys, so those worked and the tutorial continued, but really annoying that mouse scrolling will not be available.

Hopefully its a bug that can be fixed since so many others are having the same problem.
