Game lags after I updated

I got the game recently, and it worked fine before I got the update. I installed the update, and now I'm getting some pretty bad lag. It might be unrelated to the fact that I updated, but does anyone have any advice on this?

Update should have no effect on the lag. Tried it with two machines so far with nothing. However I would be keen to know if anyone else is getting this.

the game does lag a little bit like when you are moving around the map but strangely only when there are lots of capital ships doesnt really happen with lots of frigates or other stuff
