Hi I use the Dreadnought and as many javelis and cobalt ships possible without destroying the income rate. The key is balancing stratagy of rush attacks with hundreds of ships and flank attacks on bases and helpless fleets in docks.
thanks Econimist

i liek a lot of small fleets to cover my many planets, i liek one kol battleship with one sova carrier and one akkan battlecruiser, then i liek 4 robotics frigates, 4 kodiak heavy cruisers, 2 ceilo command cruisers, and 6 Percheron Light Carriers, i then get about 7 light cobal frigates, 7 flak frigates, 5 seige frigates, and 7 javelis frigates with about 10 scout frigates

Did you just tank yourself?

As for my ship combos, i'm still working on that, trying to find the right balance for a well rounded force and the biggest band for your buck.

main force LRM doing damage in the background, I'd say about 60% of the fleet
a view kodiacs in the front, mixed with with flak frigates
very few command cruisers and a few more robotics cruisers
and then of cause the usual capitals (kol with a dunov as backup works great)

Fleet composition Early stages 1 Marza and as many Cobalts as you can reasonably afford(usually caps out your fleet supply after your 2 scouts and Colony ship)

2-3 Military labs> LRM's Fleet composition 58/38/4 LRM's/Cobalts/Robotics cruisers

Later in the game it's usually 50% LRM's 30% Cobalts,5% Robotics cruisers,5% flak(all my capital ships build fighters anyway) 5% Cielo Command cruisers W/Designate target 5% Kodiaks.

I gradually try and replace my cobalt fleet with Kodiak's, but thats unrealistic in a reasonably amount of time. The fleet can reduce enemy ships very fast with Cielo's designate target ability. At this stage my Robotics cruisers ahve Demo bots to hamper enemy frigates. I rarely include carriers in my fleets but it all depends on my enemy, Scouting is your number 1 asset(the Diplomacy screen that shows your rating should have an intelligence section for combined Last Intel. seconds) If I see my enemy has no Anti strike craft ships i will go heavy carriers for a while

How do your fleets deal with those the AI sends at you which usually consists of up to 5-6 cap ships?
I go much heavier on robotics cruisers than that! Practically a quarter of the fleet sometimes. Going light on them is a help, going heavy on them and microing their buff/sabotage abilities - THAT is how you piss someone off. If someone switches to focus targetting them to stop me using them, it takes them FOREVER to get through the lot since they all buff each other. A 33% each mix of robotics cruisers, command cruisers and flaks with upgraded cannons is a total nightmare if it gets into the back lines, since the flaks have a gigantic hull strength to start with. Say goodbye to that carrier/long range mix you had skulking around the edge, buddy.

What capital ships "spells" do you like the most. So far the only success I have had is with the Kol Rail Gun. It does a lot of damage.

What TEC capital ship powers do you guys like.

the dreadnort or the kol battleship which is best???/

i like two main fleets, each one with two Kol's, a Marza, a sova and a dunnov, with 80% Cobalts, and 20% LRM's. when i say 100% i aim for 60 frigates. anything else, such as extra caps and ships, are set on home defence.

The Marza Dreadnought has more weapons loaded in the front, so it's better at taking down capital ships, and of course, it's a planet-killer by design. But the Kol is more durable, and has more weaponry in all it's banks, which make it better against frigates and cruisers. The Marza is missile based, so it goes best with LRMs and Bombers, while the Kol is autocannon based, so it goes best with Cobalts, Kodiaks, Fighters, Gauss etc.

In the early game, I like the cobalts and colony ship...and the scout(s) too. Oh yeah, and the Kol, although I wonder about getting a Sova instead to XP up. The pure DPS from a Sova at a higher level is insane, combine with lvl 2 embargo and you are winning the battle just by entering an enemy well.

I start off with the Akkan and the colony ability. I think a high level Akkan is a brilliant ship to work with later in the game. My second cap is normally the Marza and then a kol.

My fleet is normally 40% LRM's, 20% flak, 20% colbolts, and the rest is a mix of planet bombing frigates, or support frigates that i need to suit the situation.

My colbolts are replaced by kodiaks later in the game.

Kye.

Depends on how you balance your fleet. They're both good ships. Most of the Marza's main batteries face forward, so it's good for taking out individual ships fast. This is good if you're trying to down an enemy capital ship or taking out a few of a certain kind of ship in his fleet that is hampering you. The Kol's guns are spread out more widely over the ship, so it can engage several targets simulatenously. It's good for fighting formations of frigates or cruisers. Also, the Marza rocks for planetary bombardment. The Siege Guns ability and put some serious pain on an enemy planet.

When you say the the DPS from a Sova at higher level is insane are you saying this because of the air wing ?
For it to be that deadly doesn't the entire wing need to be composed of bombers ?

Thanks

I just switched over to the TEC from the Advent, and am still trying to get used to it. I'm a fan of going heavy on the LRM's and carriers for frigs, and the Sova/Kol for my main cap ship choices. The little robot ships do work wonders and I have a ton of them, but I have a few problems with the Kodiaks.

First, they never seem to jump to the front of my fleet, but rather float around the edges....is there some way to get them to stop doing that? Secondly, they're ugly. So ugly that I have a hard time putting them on the field. Are they really worth it, or would I be better off putting something else in their place?

Love Marza's

Still havn't got a perfected fleet out yet, been working on my econimy.

I'm a total newbie, but I've been playing around with fleets of nothing but a handful of Kol and tons of robotics. Allows me to specialize my tech. The buff/debuff of the Robotics is crazy and works great with the big hulls and firepower of the Kol. The many guns of the Kol are great for taking out big fleets, and the rail gun nails bigger targets. Also trying to see if in the long run investing in capital ships over smaller ships pays off.

Probably going to play around with adding other things to the mix that work well, like something to allow faster planet destruction/colonization so my fleet can move more quickly. Any suggestions on what would complement these ships?

I like to load up on sova carriers, especially later in the game, with kol's and at least one dreadnought in each fleet. to fill out a fleet I usually have 6-8 heavy cruisers, some missle frigates and some light (frigate) carriers. I have been in battles with TEC, Advent, and Vasari where they are heavy with capital ships and I have been able to destroy their heavy ships with massive numbers of fighters backed by a few capital ships. Kind of like WW2 airpower in the Pacific campaign against the Japanese empire.

My favorite TEC fleet composition:

5 Garda
20-30 LRM
15-20 Kodiak
40-50 Cobalt
3 Celio
5 Seige
5 Repair
6 Carrier
2 Sova
3 Marza
and as many Kols as you can afford

I see the reference to U.S. fleets in the pacific a lot, and I'm really digging it. I've had the thought that that's how space combat should be...at least from the TEC standpoint, for a long time.

I'm glad to see that carriers are playing a major part.

On the same note, does anyone think that carriers should have 2 squads instead of 1? It looks like most of the mods change that....maybe we could get that included in the patch?
NO 2 squads would be ridiculous, 1 squad as it is makes hordes of bombers insanely hard to handle. People just use them like candy and complain when their candy melts. You can Dock your fighters/bombers, I use it a lot, I will jump into a gravity well with docked bombers, and target whatever flak ships i can find, then release the bombers and enjoy.
Also having too many Robotics cruisers can and will be a negative impact on your fleets performance.

As for Kol vs Marza, The Marza is entirely front loaded DPS which makes it good at a straight up slug fest. the Kol is bristling with weapons form every side, so it's damage is spread over all 4 arcs of fire. the Kol is good when you absolutely need to avoid Front loaded DPS of ships or Abilities that fire only in the front Arc. Like the Vasari colony capitals ships Nano disassembler, it only fires forwards so you can keep your ship moving around it while still dealing reasonable damage and avoiding the rape skill.

vs AI, kodiac heavy cruisers beat all. There isn't much that 70 kodiacs can't kill.

Against a human opponent who would use fighters effectively, of course, it would be suicide.

"there isn't much that 70 kodiaks can't kill"

I would hope that that's true for most ships....
As for me, I rarely field more than ten or so, simple because I don't feel like they're worth it. I can never keep them in the front for combat....and they're fugly, so I always hear the Advent laughing at me whenever we fight.
