Problems hosting a game

I have a message that keeps popping up shen I try to host a game that says that most people can't join because of firewall or router issues.  I shut off my firewall and I have a modem not a router.  What do I need to do?  Please help!

Yeah same here, everything I find regarding hosting a game talks about routers, but I only have a modem...

You have to ignore that message, and see if people can still join your game. As far as I know, everyone gets that message and lots of people can still host.

Apparently you could also have a modem which has router like features, everything you'll need to know can be found in this guide, which is posted in a sticky on this forum somewhere. It also explains in here somewhere why the message pops up even though everyone can still join your games.

Someone gave me some good advice in an earlier thread like this. I was having the same issue where I was not hosting through a router and all of my anti-virus firewall software was turned off, disabled, or configured properly.

I was able to fix it by downloading a program called CCleaner and giving my drive a through cleaning. As it turned out, I still had some old symantec (norton) network drivers installed on my computer from when I had had nortan installed a few years back. CCleaner was able to remove them completely and I've been able to host ever since.
