Sins on Steam?

Sins on Steam?

Just a suggestion that Sins should be made available on Steam. Hope I'm posting it in the right place.

For those who don't know, Steam is a digital distribution programme. You have an account, where you can access all your purchased games (it offers a varied and great selection). You can buy new games there. They can be accessed at any computer, by simply logging in. They auto-update. It has a great community.

I think Sins can benefit from this.

Now, you'll probably say "Stardock offers this!" I don't personally know how it works, but I'm guessing it works in a similar way to steam. So why should Sins be made available on steam? No doubt it will increase sales and add to the community.

I think it would be great if this was made possible. I know I'd buy it from Steam, as would many others. It makes things simpler having downloaded games together, rather than, say, Steam for some games, stardock for others, along with Direct2Drive etc.

In terms of just ease of use, it will make the game more accessible for many. Steam offers various other features which will be beneficial to Sins, such as messengers, server browser (which may not be applicable here) and community groups.

But the main point is that it will definitely provide a larger market and make it easier to acquire, thus meaning better sales etc.

Also, as there is no retail version available in Europe, it will make it much more easily available here.

It's not hard to get a game on Steam I would think. Lots of new games come out on it, whether they are big releases or from small independant developers.

What do you think?

I'm also hoping someone from Stardock sees this and considers it.

:)

Um, what are you talking about Earth?

As things stand, I don't see any change in the current "standard" of one service pretty much ignoring the other.

Impulse will be way better, especially if it has mod management and frequent tournaments for a variety of games(not just stardock ones, but publishers that have their games on Impulse) where you win stuff. =]

After all, if someone wins a $10 mini expansion, how much money does that really cost Stardock? And if someone wins a stardock game they don't have, they might buy mini expansions for it, etc.

:D

But steam has ever felt "intrusive" to me. It uses no cpu, about 50meg of my 3.5gb(less would be better, or not needing to run at all except for activation.. but whatever.)
It's much better than other DRM's. It less me easily redownload games after a reformat.

My big complain is that 350kb/s is way too slow though.

But sometimes I only get 350kb/s off stardock(what gives here? When I first downloaded sins it was 1.2mb/s! That impressed me a lot and made me very happy, but now i get about 350..)

depends how busy the server is.
Ive gotten a max speed of 1.72mb/s (thats my limit) so im quiet happy, since i can buy a product, download it, install it, all that within about 20min :D

People love Steam for some reason, but it will have some serious competition in a few months...People love it because it works (it's had plenty of time to iron out the kinks).

Wrong. I haven't seen Steam in a fully functional bug-free state since its inception, what? Two years ago? Half the time I try to patch it doesn't even work, and the in-game portion of it has caused nothing but headaches for a LOT of people.

And also because Valve makes great games that go onto it at relatively cheap prices.
End of quote

Valve's made like five real games that are on Steam, and their 'episodic' crap is a scam. $35 for 1/4 of a full game?

And even still, look at the other games on Steam - they're selling 5 year old games for $20+. No matter how much I like a developer, I seriously doubt I'm going to pay that much money for a game that old. I'm a firm believer in AbandonWare, shady though it may be, but selling an ancient game for that much money is even shadier.

It's also a good way to authenticate games before jumping in for mp games (makes publishers/devs happier). Yes, it is a form of DRM, but it is relatively painless (no cd in drive etc etc).

Wrong again. Offline mode in Steam doesn't even work unless you go online first. Secondly, the little agreement you clicked through says that Valve controls every game you own - they can at any reason, just because they want, just because VAC thinks you cheated, whatever - delete every game from your account, and you can do nothing about it.

Steam may be a competitor of Stardock, but trying to compete head-to-head with it won't gain anything. Using it would benefit both sides.

You're one of those people who always misses the 'big picture', aren't you?

"MAKING GAMES THAT DON'T APPEAL TO THE MAINSTREAM CROWD WILL NOT GET YOU AS MUCH MONEY, SO THEREFORE NOBODY SHOULD EVER DO IT LOLOL"

To who is a 10 hour game, a 2 hour game, a puzzle game demo, and a long lasting multiplayer game NOT a deal?

And then you Get HL2 and EP1.

In case you were sleeping the last 5 years, most games nowadays are 5 hours long.

Oh, and the reason most old Valve games are $10 seperate is the same reason you have a Totalgaming.net subscription for indie games...

Your supposed to buy it in packs, to get savings.

No, games aren't "5 hours long" unless you're a Valve fanboy and all you've ever played are their overpriced, underdelivering, delayed 'episodic content'.

As for the Orange Box, the only people it was a 'good deal' to were the people who WERE 'sleeping for the last 5 years' and didn't own half the games it came with. They canceled the Black Box for a very specific reason - because idiots would think the Orange Box was a 'better deal' somehow.

The Orange Box tried to 'justify' itself by tacking artificially high prices onto lackluster games. Portal is $20? I wouldn't pay $20 for what was effectively 1.5 hours of patronizing 'training' levels, and .5 hours of actual game.

Team Fortress 2 was a serious let-down. For a game that is multiplayer-only, you'd think for the $30 justification they could've put more than 6 maps in the game at release. The irony is that two of the maps, cp_well and cp_granary, are nearly identical, and everyone hates them both, two of the maps were just more or less copies of old maps, and there was only one original, fun map in the entire game (gravelpit).

And I don't pay for demos.

You pay $50 and get:

- A game you already have.
- An extremely brief game you already have.
- Another extremely brief game.
- A dramatically overrated game so brief if you blink, you'd miss it.
- A game that lost its flavor faster than a stick of Juicy Fruit.

Oh, and the reason most old Valve games are $10 seperate is the same reason you have a Totalgaming.net subscription for indie games...Your supposed to buy it in packs, to get savings.

There's something ironic about a patronizing post coming from someone who says $20 for a digital copy of a game over 5 years old is a 'good deal' because I'm supposed to wait for it to go on sale some day.

If I go to Walmart, I can find Splinter Cell is some bargain bin for less that $20. I get a box, a case, a hard copy of the game, a manual, whatever. This also means that Walmart is taking some of that $20 (quite a bit too), the manufacturer of all the stuff is taking some of that $20, it costs money to get that box on the shelf, leaving a lot less at the end.

Digital distribution avoids nearly every single one of those costs, with only the 'delivery' cost being an extremely tame bandwidth bill. I should be paying less than half for ANYTHING on Steam, especially OLD GAMES.

What's depressing is that you're so dense, the absurdity of your own posts is utterly over your head.

Are you stupid, or do you intentionally ignore what doesn't agree with you?

Theirs something called packages where you pay in bulk and get a much better price then the $9.95.

If you buy the games seperate you are an IDIOT.

Do you get it now moron?
BTW, moron, in case you were born yesterday, brick and morter retailers don't like digital distrbution.

Alot of the reason games are higher priced is because publishers don't want their games pulled off shelves.

You can't learn that in redneck school, eh?
For all your idiotic steam bashing rants, try looking at any digital distribution site.

All the major publishers have their games the same price, due to b&m stores.

I love idiotic kids who don't take business classes and think they know something.

Esp. kids who think because they say so, their opinion is FACT.

The truth is, just because you didn't like those games, doesn't mean they aren't a good deal.

Zellio, insulting people is not nice. Don't do it please.

And before you start in on "he did it first", there is a difference between what he said and what you said -- you called him an idiot directly; he simply called certain actions idiotic. One is an insult, the other an opinion.

How does that invalidate anything I said about having to 'wait for it to go on sale' to make an extremely old game drop to a price that's actually reasonable?

Also, go figure out what the edit button does.

By the way you can get Splinter Cell NEW from Amazon for $10. They sell it on Steam for $20. There's a reason it's called the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price.

Taking sides with someone is not so nice, and not a way to stop people, moron.

Furthermore, saying someone inplied and someone did is the stupidest method of protecting someone yet. Implications are the same as said. The intentions are the same. Please take your idiotic ramblings elsewhere.

I'm not taking sides with anyone here -- in fact, I agree with several of your points -- but your behavior is out of line. Alas, none of the mods are online or I'd have them explain it to you themselves.
Then please sic the mods towards me, if you want. I'm not a person that'll hide behind political correctness.

And saying you agree with alot of points is useless if you don't say what they are. or are we afraid of taking sides?

It's funny that in three posts you claimed to be older, smarter, and more mature, but you're crying like a child, you don't know what the edit button is for, and you're being a complete dick about something that doesn't even affect you in the slightest.

So in the end, everyone thinks you're the stupidest, most immature, childish idiot in this thread. I really don't think anyone cares what you have to say anymore.

Oh and consider yourself reported.

Then please sic the mods towards me, if you want. I'm not a person that'll hide behind political correctness.

No, but you're a person who hides behind threats on the internet. What's better?
