Why cant we do an Eve mod?

what are the reasons for it(with sever modelling and hacking I think we can make it work :D)

Seriously go ahead  give me a reason so I can see If  I can shoot it down. :D

The current problem of not being able add more than five ships to the frigate and capital ship factories, and not being able to add in new factories (like destroyer factories etc..) and have them function correctly.

Last I've heard these two problems are currently unable to be overcome. (although I'm confident someone will figure a way before too much longer.)

Since I haven't played Eve for about 3-4 years now, how many more ships have they added in just the frigate and battleship range? (tech 1 not tech 2) Back when I was playing the Caldari had around 4 frigs, (Merlins, Kestrels, and a couple others who's names elude me at the moment.) and 2 battleships (The Raven and Scorpion)

Go play EVE. Seriously. All the other mods don't have games (or any good games. Look at ST and BFG).

Ya they have increased the amount.
But(using the Caldari list here) Im cutting out the ones I think are less used.
Frigates:
Kestral
Merlin
Griffin
Cruisers:
Caracal
Moa
Osprey
Battlecruisers:
Ferox
Drake

Those three will be built at the frigate factory frigate page(I am assuming 8 slots per page)

Battleships:
Scorpion
Raven
Rokh

Carriers:
Chimera
Wyvern

Dreadnaughts:
Phoenix

Hmm didnt even need all the slots!

Capital ship facility:
One more thing needed: THE GOD ALMIGHTY TITAN!

Industrial ships are used only by automated systems like Refineries and Trade ports which not much variety is needed.(Can we set this to spawn different ships?)

Most of the other classes just provide different abilities, so just toss up a whole lot of ability research, dont really see a problem with the numbers :P.

I don't know, how hard is it to model duct take a clear packing tape for the minmatar ships? (note i haven't played since the latest graphics update was released)

There is nothing stopping anyone from making an eve mod, but know this.

There are only 15 ship slots per faction. 6 frigate, 4 cruiser, and 5 capitol ship slots. Eve has far more ships than slots available to you so you will have to omit some ship designs.

Then you have ships fittings to consider (and all the infighting that will cause, because no one outfits ships in eve the way they are "intended"). You cant duplicate Eve's complex weapon arrangements, ranges, and damage types in Sins. You cant duplicate ECM/ECCM, hardeners, shield mods, etc, etc, etc. You can "try" though.

Yes even with the update Mimmie ships are still trash cans held together by duct tape, and super glue :p

can this be increased?
Bob it can but the player wont be able to see the additional ships.

The ship slots can currently increased in both the frigate and Cruiser sections to 10 a piece. We don't have a work around for the 5 cap ship limit yet. It would be possible, in theory to do an Eve mod since it's drive technology requires a gravity field to lock on to. You'd just face the same problem as any other Sci-fi genre that doesn't utilize lanes...you'd have to manually connect each gravwell to every other gravwell in the same system.

i wouldn't go and make an eve mod, Eve will certainly contact you about copying there ships, even if you make your own models of them, and ask you nicely at first to remove them. I know alot of modders who got into several altercations with eve. Its just not worth the headaches.

And Dark hit upon it. The only thing I could see that would stop this TC from happening.

Don't be quite so sure, a group of eve players have made great progress on a eve mod for homeworld 2 (There's details and I think a about it and i think a beta download over on the Relic forums somewhere) without any arguments from CCP. I think CCP's looking at it as an opportunity to attract more players to eve online by letting people make mods about it. (After all people who've never heard of eve but like the mod are probably going to at least check out what eve onine is all about and maybe subscribe for a while.)

I think a EVE mod for this game would probably be one of the best made, if it is ever made. Eve is in my opinion one of the best space games ever made. I love all the different weapon types and missile types (sizes including cruise and torpedo's) especially torpedo's, I would love to see torpedo's in SINS. And would love to see some ships that are actually "HUGE" in SINS the capital ships dont live up to being a massive ship.
heres a youtube video of the eve mod for homeworld 2

I know Eve previously cancelled a eve mod that was in work for bridge commander, HW2, Nexus: the Jupiter incident, Starfleet Command 3, and Empire at war. I've made friends while modding all of these games and eventually we always saw someone start to mod Eve then post they had to stop due to Eve interference. Either way your taking a risk with copywrited models, which does claim on there site they will never give such premissions for any content there MMO currently uses or owns. I'm just passing on some info, not trying to be the bad guy here.

So if the big deal is the lack of ship slots, why not just make the capital ship yard build your super big "Titans" and then the regular ship yard for your frigates, cruisers, battleships, dreadnaughts, etc... increase the fleet capacity that Titans would use to say... 100, 150 or whatever. You could even make the capital ship yard super expensive if you wanted to make it even more difficult to get a titan. Current capital ship designs could be used for the battleship size or something and price them appropriately resource and fleet capacity wise in the cruiser group in production (the bigger the ship, the higher tech required to build that size in the cruiser group). Just a thought! Could be applied to this suggested mod, or any other mod for that matter I would think.

It is not illegal to look at someone elses work and make your own based off of it. Take music for instance. Many musicians now days take a beat they like or know from somewhere and mix it up. If every musician got pegged down for 'stealing' beats it would be a legal nightmare.

As long as you do not directly rip or take any resources that went into building the copyrighted material, your work is yours no matter how simmilar it may look.

Um, failing to properly clear a sample is a fantastic way to learn the legal system from the wrong end.

Sorry, must have missed that. But, even 'interpolation' still often requires a cover-song style negotiation to happen at some point. Taking all the original designs and style for space ships out of a space game and sticking them into another space game is really incredibly unlikely to be smiled on as fair use either.

As I stated earlier, the only reason that I could not see an Eve Mod being made would be for that very reason. That's why whoever does decide to step up and make this mod would have to speak with CCP first to either get their blessing, or get shot down before they waste theirs and their teams time with something that they can't do. *grinz evily and whispers* Then they just make it for themselves and not release it.

The key thing is this: Negotiate with CCP to see if they would allow a team to create a Mod based on their game using models that they create from scratch based upon their original designs. How will they get that? By looking at screenshots. It's the safest way for both CCP and for us (and not just at a legal stand point. Have you seen the high rez look of all the ships since Trinity came out? Fleet battles with it on is a system killer. Can you imagine playing Sins with ships like that? It'd be pretty, but killer to the frame rate... Then again, if we really wanted to get the true Eve feel into it...  ;) )

Actually from what ive read the mod team making the EVE mod for Homeworld 2 have actually been given permission by CCP to do it. They had to negotiate some things of course, but from what ive read they were allowed to make it. From what ive read they have to send the mod out to CCP first to have them review it before they can go public with it, so it is possible to make a eve mod with permission.

Considering the limitations on ship slots. As I recall a lot of the ships used the same basic ship designs. Take for instance the Minmater Rifter -> wolf/jaguar. Would it be possible to set it up so you build a Rifter, give it a couple points on creation, then when you build one, you choose its "specialty". Give it more armor, more damage, or whatever. Yes you would still be limited, but giving a frigate some of the varience you could in Eve might be an idea to look into if it hasn't already.

Because their lawyers would kick your arse for theft of IP if you didn't ask very, very politely?
