Mod Idea: Honorverse

When I read the first previews of this game and got to know the distinct kind of game mechanics Sins incorporates, I started thinking "This game would be a perfect platform for a Honor Harrington mod". When I bought Sins and played through several games on huge maps, I was convinced that if some game were to have a Honorverse mod, it would have to be Sins.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, I'm referring to David Weber's highly awarded and popular series of books about Honor Harrington, basically Horatio Hornblower in space to oversimplify the description.

Anyway, I was toying around with ideas on how to incorporate Honorverse into Sins. Two major aspect's of Honorverse combat are stellar gravity wells affecting strategic mobility and newtonian physics. Unlike Sins, in Honorverse, each Star's gravity well is so immense that ships must drop out of supralight at the edge of that gravity well. I was wondering if it's possible to make a star system in Sins where the star's own gravity well encompasses the whole system and all the planet's in the said system. Basically, you would just drop out of supralight at the edge of the star's gravity well and proceed to the planets in the system via sublight.

Second issue I was thinking about was the newtonian physics. Is it possible to incorporate any kind of newtonian physics model to Sins?

Third: Is it possible to mod active counter-measures against missiles into Sins? Anti-Missile-Missile's, Point-Defence Systems etc.

Well, those are my ponderings. Creative discussion strongly couraged  :)

good luck, Honorverse is known to viciously defend its IP and serve out cease and desists rather quickly...

Good to see you here Eville, not really surprised though, well versed with your SW mod for HW2 :) Yeah, I recall Honorverse is rather strict about the IP, I also recall the incident with the planned HW2 mod. Nevertheless, Sins would be a really good platform for a HW2 mod.

Aye in theory, but at sublight speeds it would take about an hour real time to travel from one planet to another (depending on their distance apart; making it take a day or more just to play a small map with a half dozen planets. (and sitting for an hour or two in the beginning of the game for your colony ship and it;s escort to reach the first nearby planet body would bore most people to tears.

Great idea. I was thinking the same thing after a few games. I have been working on a map of the honorverse, but I sure don't want to get a nasty IP letter if I post it.

It has the major systems and I'm working on adding the minor systems now.

Anyways, I would love to see a honorverse mod.

One reason I think that there defending it so harshly is there is a Game in the works called honorverse Remember looking at it it wont be out for a wile, Think its a 4x turn based game.

Honorverse Game

From the link that game sounds kinda bland tbh, kind a like a rip off of galactic civilizations II. (which was a fun game but the canned battles where you had no input to determine the outcome got boring really quickly.)

And with it being "online" they'll probably charge per month as well; which is probably why they don't want anyone making a mods and what not which could cut into their precious bottom line. (A pity too, Sins would be the perfect canvas for such a mod.)

Unfortunately that's pretty much how it goes with them. They don't understand the concept of a fan-base very well. :)

That game... the trailer... it looks so bad... So really really bad.

Why do they even bother to protect the IP so vigorously? Aren't Honorverse novels freely available online? What they're doing is in no way helping them.
