Left Handed Players Forgotten?

Title pretty much says it all

mouse set up is for right handed and i haven't found a way to switch the mouse buttons

most games (as in major studios/publishers) just take the settings from the PC itself

is there a fix i couldn't find?

and yes, i saw there was a ridiculous way to fix it by rooting around in the game files

i'm asking if there is a "real" fix before i take the game back

thanks

Use a key-stroke emulation program to switch the keystrokes of the mouse buttons around? (Most Logitech mouses come with this kind of program.)

thanks for the the reply but, no

i'm asking for something that just about every other game out there does

i shouldn't have to fiddle with files or add a third party program to use a left handed mouse set-up - it is just the switching of the functions of two buttons

Edit Nevermind, I've proven myself wrong.

But my left handed friends have their mouse buttons left as usual. *shrug*

Windows has a built-in thing that switches the two mouse buttons for the entire computer, you could just turn that on and not have to fiddle around inside of any game, ever. Though my left handed friends tend to do everything with the mouse buttons as normal.

yup it does
the problem is the game isn't paying any attention to that

You could try just asking the developers nicely, they seem a pretty cordial bunch. Maybe there was no one in the beta that was left handed and prefered switched mouse buttons?

In the meanwhile you could just use the fix since it probably takes less than a minute and you only have to do it once.

I'm not even left handed but I use a left-handed mouse and it's a pain not being able to reconfigure the buttons...

Frankly i find left-handed mice easier to use... Hmm... maybe i'm a secret lefty... I must put thought to this.

Anyway, it's really annoying when I think i'm doing one thing (as I am so used to the controls in all other games that accept left-handed mice) and then I realise I didn;t give any orders like I intended, or something along that line. Mostly it's annoying because I keep deselecting stuff.

Not saying the developers are evil greedy bastards or anything for not putting it in OMFG WTF!11!12ELEVENTY etc. ad naeseum, just saying if someone has time and it's not a big issue it would be convenient to have.

now if i had picked this up in a bargain bin for $9.95 in the year 1990 i probably wouldn't have a request/complaint - i would just put it on the shelf and figure it was just 10 bucks out the window
this is just pretty basic stuff isn't it? maybe just a little attention to detail as all the buttons and clickables (options etc) leading up to the actual gameplay pays attention to the settings on the PC until you enter the game

it shouldn't be necessary to go rooting around in "hidden" files (and a large percentage of people wouldn't even know about the fact the files are hidden or how to unhide them let alone opening the particular file in notepad)

how do you ask the devs "nicely" about getting an immediate fix?
there was a post about this in the technical forum with no response - is there another way?
thanks

If you go to your uimappings file, C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\uimappings.setting on XP, and find the section that reads

CURSOR_BUTTON_0
NumMappings 1
Mapping
Device "MOUSE_BUTTONS"
DeviceInputID 0
isAltDown FALSE
isCtrlDown FALSE
isShiftDown FALSE
CURSOR_BUTTON_1
NumMappings 1
Mapping
Device "MOUSE_BUTTONS"
DeviceInputID 1
isAltDown FALSE
isCtrlDown FALSE
isShiftDown FALSE

and swap the DeviceInuptIDs so that CURSOR_BUTTON_0 is set to 1 and CURSOR_BUTTON_1 is set to 0. That will swap the mouse buttons.

He doesn't want a solution. He wants to complain, because the game will not do it automatically for him.

IMO stop crying you sound as bad as a right hander when they come to my house. LOL I dont switch anything around button wise just been used to it. /Gasp what technical things such as left and right click.... =/

Scathson stop bitching. You're a disgrace to lefty's acting like you are right now. There are do-it yourself solutions. Do it yourself. You dont need people holding your hand for you. I don't see the big fuckin deal. Adapt. If you were in the forest you would whine and complain that things aren't perfectly set up for you. And then you would die.

/agree

Why come on here and continue to shoot down any suggestions that people give him instead of just fixing the problem?

Shelve the game already and be done with it, it'll save us all head-aches.

Scathson, I guess you haven't come across Stardock before - they actually listen.

A better attitude to start usually equals a better response.

1.) They didn't "forget" lefties, they "forgot" people who prefer to use a reversed mouse. I'm a lefty, and I resent this blatant characterization!

2.) They didn't forget anything. You can edit a simple text file and everything is set. If you can't handle a simple text edit, then you shouldn't be playing a game period. I suggest a console, they'd be more up your alley.
