Is there a way to turn off the pirate mechanic on any map you play? I'm torn; it's a way to make sure you have a lot of cool-a$$ space battles, but it's also an endless annoyance that I don't know how to deal with effectively yet

So CAN pirates make actual interstellar jumps?

Imagine a three-star system, including star A, B, and C.

There is only a pirate base circling star A.

If a pirate raid is called against an empire that only has colonized planets around stars B and C, where there are no pirate bases, will the pirates jump between stars to harass them?

Is a pirate fleet even spawned in that instance?

Although it's the end game, the TEC superweapon can obliterate a pirate base with two shots. After the base is nuked, no further pirates will spawn; only the defense fleet around the pirate base will remain.

They're the Antarans reborn - except the rewards aren't that great for beating them down.
