Saved Mini Dump @ startup - Fixed

Saved Mini Dump @ startup - Fixed

game tries to boot, screen goes black and then dumps

Keep getting the following error

Saved MiniDump C:\users\ade\appdata\local\temp\sinsdump\sins-v1.02-2008-03-02-00-16-28-3132.dmp

I just downloaded the game from stardock central. Updated etc. Went to run the game and it begins to boot up. The screen goes black as if a intro video or something is about to start then it drops the above error.

Any ideas?

Edit - Fixed

Was a driver issue. Latest didnt work, but i found using modified drivers fixed the problem. Can now run full screen without a hitch.

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com Has a bunch of modified drivers with there downloads and modded inf files for laptops and desktops.

http://forums.guru3d.com/forumdisplay.php?f=47 - also have a bunch of different drivers you could try. I'm sure one will correct your dump errors.

well I got mine working in full screen mode now. I downloaded the 169.09 nvidia drivers. Went to install them and at the end it asked to reboot. It attempted to reboot then told me the setup had failed, try again with recommended settings? So I did. This time it said the drivers are for windows vista 32 and not compatible with you.

Had me stumped as the driver got further with installation before and I have windows vista 32bit. I assumed this was something to do with the failed installation so i figured I would unistall the drivers first then try again. I un-installed and it rebooted.

Logged back in and it said it needed to install driver for my card. Clicked I wanted to install some new ones and it did it automatically. God knows what version of the drivers i'm running. Vista either found the one on my desktop and installed the 169.09 or went and download it from elsewhere or something.

What ever happened it fixed it and can now run in full sreen etc. I'd suggest finding some new drivers if your having the same dump error.

Here are the causes to some of the most common "can't start the game" problems as reported by tech support.

-Out of date video or audio drivers. Update them. Some reports required a complete uninstall of drivers to get this to work. Also and couple people had to rollback instead.
-No sound card or deactivated sound card (check your dxdiag report).
-Bad user input device (check your dxdag input tab, disable the offending HID device)
-Bad mod (uninstall mod, report in respective mod thread to have it updated/fixed)
-Left over files from a previous version of Sins. Uninstall, manually delete leftovers, reinstall.
-Graphics settings too high - reduce these manually in the user.setting file until game starts. Typical offenders are texture detail, multisampling level, bloom, and resolution. Start by reducing these all to 0, 0, off and 1024x768 respectively and raising until you isolate which one is causing your machine to crash.
-Corrupt install. Reinstall.
-Torrented game - unbelievably we get a large number of crash reports from people who torrented the game. This is why we need to have you send your cd key along with the report so the people who actually paid for the game get all our attention - there is nothing worse than spending 3 or 4 hours a day tracking down bugs that are caused by tampered exe's. The original seeders often maliciously modify the game to crash (among other things we've found hidden in them). Fix is to buy the game.

Remember to try in windowed mode too so you can any errors that may not normally show up.

Further details/suggestions are here: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=402&aid=174432.

Finally, if everything else fails send your cd key, a description of the problem and your dxdiag report to [email protected].

Sorry to "up" this old topic, but i'm experiencing the same problem today.

During last hours I tested all solutions that can be found on this forum.

All my drivers are updated now.

I am on XP, I have absolutely no problem with the game, it works perfectly, except when I try to make a mod to work.

I just noticed a strange thing, but maybe logical : when I don't put all the folders for a mod into the same folder (I put folders from a particular mod into the "mods" folder without a common folder to have them together), I can launch one by one all those folders with parts of the mod. I have to admit I did not try to really play like this, but it seems that it does not make those parts really work. However, like that I don't have this "save minidump" thing...

I'm running out of options and ideas. I did everything that you guys said before my message... Does someone could have an idea ?

Thanks !

ankios it could be that the mod's are not compatible with the sins version that you have ie 7deadly sins is still only for 1.05( it is the biggest and most complex single mod) most other mods either are updated to atleast 1.1 or 1.15 some are out for entrenchment. the best answer is to post a query AFTER reading all of the thread for the mod somemods have over 30 pages so it is abit of a read but could save you the effort of posting and geting a"dumb f###" read the thread reply

hope this helps

Well actually I did that before posting...

But I fixed the problem. I understood there was different mod folders with the last update. Now, I am able to put mods into the good folder.

However, thanks for the answer !

If you're getting a minidump right at the start, before the opening cinematics, try updating entrenchment and SoaSE both, it fixed my problem

EDIT: thank you for all the useful advice btw ^^ sped along my problem-solving

I can't get the game even to install properly. It just says it has installed then when I try to launch goes to "black-screen of death". It doesn't even ask for the serial number of my game, which StarDocks is usually hot on. I have more than adequate specs and use Windows 7.

Why do you think spamming the same question on 4 old threads would help.   reported
