Converting Maya to XSI?

After reading the sins mod pdf it seems that Sins only supports XSI formats for its meshes. Right now im using maya 8.5 and I am very interested in creating my own ships.

Is there a plugin for maya 8.5 to export as XSI format? so far I found out something called dotXSI but I cant find a version that supports Maya 8.5 but i did find one that supports 8.0 so im wondering if I can still use the version that supports 8.0 into 8.5.

I also found out a program called Crosswalk but im only finding vague details on how its supposed to work. Anyone know of any sites?

Is there a way to open Sin mesh files into Maya? so that I may see how many polygons each ship is made up of so when building my own i dont go over the poly limit so that the game doesnt crash.

I am a newbie to modding so I plan to get all of my research done by the end of the Spring semester so that Ill have all summer to create my project ideas. Hopefully Sins would have released a full version of their modding tools by then so im trying to see how everything works just in case they dont.

Please help. Thanks! :D

Unfortunaetly compiled maya plugins work only in the version they are compiled for. So if the plugin has a .mll file, it will not work in 8.0. But what you can always do is, export your model as .obj or .fbx from maya and import it in xsi, where you can export it to the desired format.

You can download the XSI Mod Tool version for free, it has everything you need to create new ships.

For importing Sins ships, I think the only way is to use 3ds Max with Stannum's script:

They did,

it WAS called GMax. It was discontinued I believe in 2006...go figure. You may be able to find it around somewhere....it's around 20 mb

Just found a link...I think it's v12 which I believe was the last version.
