Battlestations: Pacific

Big fan of the original. It was a little on the short side but still a fun game

Players can now discover another viewpoint of the war by taking direct control of the infamous Ohka and other Japanese air units that fought over the during WWII.

For the first time, the game also includes the tactical landing of troops in battle. Launch your parachute squadrons with pin-point accuracy or ensure the safe passage of your landing craft and watch your battalions of troops capture key locations, man the defensive artillery and gain a strategic foothold to support your offensive efforts.

Chip.

I very much thought about purchasing this game because it looked great but for some reason I never got it. I love the idea that in MP, some people can pilot aircraft, while others man defenses and others navigate ships (and maybe have buddies online in control of different parts of the ship?)

I just bought Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 and I am sorely \disappointed so I think I will return it and pick this game up. Have you played it at all. How do you like it? Has anyone played it aside from Chip on this forum. Let me know. Thanks.

for the original (Midway) your friends cannot control different parts of a ship. I am not sure about the sequal but considering the scope of teh game I could not see how it would be implimented. I hope they have a beta with this sequal.

Single player has been knocked for being too short. While I wish there had been some sort of random map or such, what is there seemed fine to me. It also includes several challenge modes for each unit type (air, surface, below). MP is a blast. I don't know about anyone else but you could spend 45 minutes in a battle and not even notice the time. Just to let you know I moderate over at the Eidos forums. I don't want you to think I am trying to hide something or some spammer. I am just a fan of the game and had been excited about it since i saw the early tech trailer several years ago.

I know there are some clans that still play. Usually what I recommend is posting over at the Eidos forum a time because unlike many random people signing up to play the guys over there are pretty good.

Looks great. Battlestations: Midway was a brilliant game that's only real fault was using Gamespy, which is really nice considering it was made for consoles and PCs are the same time. So much fun sinking Kongo class battleships in Prince of Wales.

Has any new information been released about this game, especially those related to a random skirmish/customizable forces mode? I'll probably get it even without it but I hope they listen to the criticism that the lack of it was the games weakest point...

Well I am weary of it a bit. The first oen was fun looked greta and had everything goign for it. Except when ti came to the balance of air power vs sea power. After 1 month online me and my buddies figured outt he damage control system on the ships and virtualy mad eout ship unsinkable. You could torpedo 1 ship 50 times in a battle and it wouldnt go down. Also air craft carriers were the slowest unit and easy pray to enemy ships. And shortly after the MP communaty died because of that and that they wouldn't patch it. To me it felt like the esentialy abandoned it. Witch gives me a cold shoulder.

Wasn't quite that bad was it? Airpower can sink ships, you just have to overwelm the damage control. 6 torpedoes that hit similtaniously are worth far more than 24 torpedoes that hit a few minutes apart. Also a couple of bomb hits also goes a ways if they start a fire, as the damage control will be split between fire, water, and possibly repairing guns. And carriers by the way are about as fast as battleships, so for them to really catch you you'd just have to be cornered (at least in all the games I played).

Trust me GoaFan. When i say unsinable ships I mean it. To make it fair we were usign destroyers navigating only at BB speeds and would massaker BBs. The damage control was insane. Also each ships had sweet spots. Hitting them was easy but even then ships would go ona dn take barely any damage. IT realy was that bad. In the end my air power was fighters only just so my team mates don't have to worry about bombers, but it's not like it mattered.
